Did I understand correctly??! Michael Angelo first passion was sculpting, not painting, as he had a negative opinion of painters, and so he perfected his painting skills as he went along???!! My brain is convulsing.
To him, painting is a piece of cake. In the Sistine Chapel case, he had to get used to drawing on his back for long hours, and painting with mixed colors on plaster which dried fast.
His considered himself a scupltor and there is a famous poem by him where he's in despair still never ending toil and drew a little self portrait next to it. He was standing and looking up nit laying down as legend came to be. Sacrificed 4 years of his life. And in the process brought art to life. Against his will, became the greatest painter of his day. Hes the first superstar artist. At any other time in history would this have happened. Yoh cant have an artists like in this era. Hes an artist of his time who was essential and necessary to the time he was In.
