Sit And Knit For A Bit: Celebrating 17 of May Special. S3, Episode 14 by ARNE & CARLOS 

I was thrilled to see Arne in front of the royal palace. It has always been a hope that I would be in Norway for syttende mai. My decision to give the bunad a new life was the very best possible. I couldn't be more pleased.

Well, I was GLUED TO WATCHING this episode. No stitching today. It was so informative and I loved seeing how the outfits were put together. Very touching and thoughtful on how Carlos chose Arne’s family’s region and will pass down the folk costumes in the family. You must be Norway’s top ambassadors! ❤️

The folk costume history had me in tears! It is back to it’s home country to be enjoyed.

Watching the progress being made, the frustrations of having to undo hours of work to resew to make better. They truly are a labour of love, How special and exciting it was for me sitting here in western Canada to see these individual items one by one being shown with such loving care. Thank you Carlos and Arne for taking us along on your journey, whether in the beetle, with Helmer and Freya, sewing, knitting, crocheting baking, cross country skiing, hiking, cruising, or what ever you happen to be doing at the time. I’ve seen lots of video for national day as I partner sent them from Bergen ! I have been waiting for this day for so very long but it seems it came very fast! The costumes are wonderful, awesome, fabulous, beautiful, marvelous........I better stop! You get the picture! I am thrilled for you two! Carlos, I too don't care to wear hats. It goes back to my childhood when I had to wear a hat to mass but never had the option of wearing what I wanted to wear.......very old fashioned idea! Today, kids tell their parents what they will do and heaven help that if you don't, you may damage their feelings! Arne you are so lucky to have been gifted the costume ☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️! Through you I am getting to know about the culture of Norway: I am living at the end of the world in Chile and I knew that Norway was a northern country, that Oslo was the capital, and beautiful sweaters were knitted there, there was a lot of snow...and that´s it... Now I know a lot more thanks to you guys. I love how respectful you are of nature and animals, of the other people around you, how you are so pride of your culture. Your folk costumes are so nice, how great and accomplished taylors you are, specially you Carlos, that no only speak a lot of languages, but were able to make your beautiful costume, of course with Arne´s help, and he was born for great design, sewing, knitting, etc. I enjoyed this episode tremendously. Thank you, thank you, thank you! You made me very happy watching you both.

How interesting it all is. I just drink in every detail of your costumes and the options, and was so excited afterwards that I looked up May 17 celebrations in Norway and was wowed again by all of the people who turned out, dressed in similar style. I wish you had posted full length photos--please do so if you can. I've not seen the costumes in full length, but I suppose I can check the blog and newsletters. Or Instagam-right. Lots of work in making your costumes, which will last for many years! That Carlos' vest with the pockets motifs following the pattern on the vest is brilliant. As per cleaning silver, I have a trick for you, I have small silver spoons for many years, kept in a sealed plastic bag with many chalk sticks. Never ternished, looking as well as new. It could save you lots of rubbing in the future. Happy National Day (with delay).

OMG, lovely - I must tell you this story - I was downtown Vancouver at the cruise ship port and saw the Roald Amundsen cruise ship with Hurtigruten cruises on the side and thought, OMG Arne and Carlos must be here, and said this to my hubby, then I came to my senses and realized it was a local cruise to Alaska, so I took a picture of the ship, hoping someday I will meet you somewhere somehow!!!! maybe on a knitting cruise!!!

The waistcoat is cut expertly! you did a wonderful job there. I found it very difficult to get fabric with big floral patterns which have an actual mirror part. You look great in it.
