My husband seems to be lingering in the room every week when I watch your episodes. I always expect him to leave but he never does. Maybe he'll start knitting soon too 😄
Dear Arne and Carlos, warmest heartfelt thanks for a fabulous time spent with you! I laugh, learn and relax, the best antidote ever ! Just like you, I am embarking on round two of renovations, 26 years after the first one! Boiler, windows and that’s without adding gardening ideas but I love it and already picture a year on from now when I shall be able to give myself a pat on the back! So much looking forward to knitting the blue wagtail! 🤗🧶🐾
Both of you are (borrowing a common Italian phrase) "a volcano of ideas": a constant outpouring of ideas and projects on the go and future ones to come. The sweater Arne is knitting is just gorgeous. It's amazing he knits without a pattern and just mixes motifs and yarns together - et voilà! - you have a garment. It is all so inspiring. But health comes first, and I am glad you are taking the time needed to get better, Carlos. Everything in its own time. Thank you for producing yet another lovely block and for taking the time to do this podcast.
Arne, I have a recommendation for you! While waiting in the car for Carlos at physical therapy, consider listening to your reading on an AUDIOBOOK while you knit! Not everyone loves audiobooks, but for me, 2 of my very favorite things are reading and knitting. Listening to audio books lets me do 2 favorite things at the same time, and it's wonderful. Another of my favorite activities is eating. If only I could eat, knit, and listen all at the same time, I might never move again! I am able download free audio books to my phone through a local library. I wonder if something similar is available to you?
You can get free books on amazon for the kindle and there is also a kindle reader as only a few books on Kindle can be read. Some books can be read by Alexa but I don't like the way she reads. Other companies also have free ebooks, from romance, cooking, baking to spiritually and everything in between
Enjoyed the chat, it took me several days only because of my hand surgery, can’t wait to try knitting and crochet again. I read Nancy Drew like crazy when I was in school, many many years ago! - thanks for being so faithful to your videos
Fun session today, thank-you! I love Arne’s “leftover yarn” sweater that will have a picot edge on the collar! Interesting to hear about the moose that wants to live with you (at least, near you)! And I laughed out loud at “ we dropped off a poodle and got back a whippet!” Poor Helmer! Have a happy week!
I have to watch EVERYTHING. I just looked at your various programs. I need to watch everything. I do have done everything you do. My father was an interior designer baker farmer. I wanted to be like him. He was from Czechoslovakia and came to America as an immigrant after WW11 and became a citizen. But he was still very Chech. in his design esthetic his old world ways. He was the designer to the stars in CA. He was posh o our home was a masterpiece. He never lost his accent fully. He was incredible. You both are the teach so many of the things he taught me and I proudly do and stand for always. He passed over 20 yrs ago but is on my mind everyday of my life. Thank you for everything you have to teach and offer. Where do I start? I won’t be able to go anywhere but your channel. You guys are amazing. Thank you so much.
We made scrapbooks growing up of all our childhood memories and high school. There is now a “scrapbooking” fad going on as Carlos spoke of. Those of us that grew up in the 60’s and 70’s, we know the real meaning of scrapbooking.😉
I'm with you. My scrapbooks are mementos, doodles etc. Today I was actually busy adding photos to my crafting notebook while watching the episode, which felt quite appropriate.
It was through you both that I found out about The Last Homely House. Such a lovely channel. Your channel and Kate’s channel are just so entertaining. Thank you !
This one was pretty great! I'm not a knitter, I crochet, but knitting fascinates me. Brioche is actually WHY I want to learn to knit, it looks beautiful. Thank you!
It’s the best show in town with Arne and Carlos. That’s what is it . Ps and the beautiful doggies and Moose And the knitting is absolutely awesome. Thank you guys
How lovely the doll looks, love the jumper on her, love the colourful jumper you making for your self oh i love you both lovely souls, lovely people. Love your video
Wow look at all that work behind you. Incredible! You have been busy over the years. Thanks for such a fun podcast. Always so interesting. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
When I was growing up I had every Nancy Drew book. They were wonderful. When I grew up I was in Law Enforcement. I must have really been influenced by those books.
Your art journals are like the scrapbooks that were made years ago... in the 1960s and 70s. Then someone came along and started commercializing it, the sold special books and papers and stamps and punches. The definition of scrapbook changed.
I wanted you to open every one of your art journals and share the art journal collections with us. I know this will not be possible--just a dream for me. I see the value of your art journal collections for your inspiration and the development of your designs--inspiration is in everything we see. Arne, enjoyed seeing your felting projects--I look forward to meeting Tina.
"The Folk Costume Workout." Ha ha. Thank you for the Joanna Lumley recommendation, I've been looking for something to watch (besides podcasts, of course). When Arne first mentioned needle felting I immediately thought of Sarafina (incredible stuff). Finally, yes, yes, yes to more tutorials!
Oh, goodness, old-house-renos. I empathize. I used to own one myself and there were so many "adventures" discovering terrifying wiring, eye-popping "insulation" (rocks & sand, no lie) and an open sewer channel under a weird lid in the basement floor. Wishing you the very best for the most straightforward renovation possible!
Picot edging with a collar facing. Enjoyed today's episode very much. Carlos, don't wear yourself out. Arne, another author with entertaining, quick reads is Ed McBain, who writes mysteries. Looking forward to the new designing venture you're working on. Thank you once again for sharing your ideas with us. --KateColors
The Kilted Coaches are wonderful - and inspiring. You two are so wonderful! I ♥ Sarafina fiber felting tutorials! I want to do reindeer/caribou and now maybe some moose for your long-term guest! :)
Another wonderful look at renovation is Peter Mayle’s “A Year in Provence.” It’s a book, but it’s also available in video. Renovation in France is apparently quite an experience!
Carlos I can relate. We restored an old house in Michigan when we were young. It took 20 years. We had so many things that went wrong and were worse than we thought. When we discovered termites, I sat down on the lawn and cried. It was certainly a character builder. The house was beautiful when we finally finished and then we sold it and moved to another state.
I was wondering if the kit for perforating paper with the thread might have something to do with sashiko sewing 🪡. I couldn’t see the patterns of the holes you were showing us. Just an idea 💡
That’s a ‘We R Memory Keepers Sew easy stitch piercer’ with interchangeable heads, for when you wish to add embroidery to a design. You’ll find a tutorial on RU-vid.
I had a lovely time knitting and watching your podcast. Arne that sweater is a piece of art! The technique you're looking for is the "folded neckband." I've done it in the past and I love the effect, so neat and professional looking. Nancy Drew Mysteries: it takes me back to elementary school. I think I read every Nancy Drew book in the library. Carlos, I hope your health keeps improving every day. It can be a long process so you mustn't get discouraged. Stay well!
Putting art on top of bills is economic and none wasteful and smart as long as you pay the bills first great idea. The book that was gifted to you is very lovely.
Renovating is hard work. We have just moved to a new country property and there’s so much to do. Being in the country here also makes it harder to get tradesmen to come and quote for work and it also makes things more expensive. But as you’ve said before about knitting “there are no knitting ( insert renovating) police” it will get done in time. Watching your podcasts makes me happy. Thank you for the time and effort you put into your work.
Hiya 🌞 gents! The little "hole" punch "runner"- you can put in the design(fish, circle, etc)then either use chalked paper/dress making "carbon"paper and settle paper on(usually)edges/ borders and run the hole punch along the paper which leaves the pattern in chalk, which you then embroider. Also you can just run the hole punch along tissue paper which you then pin onto your fabric and stitch your embroidery, pulling the tissue paper out afterwards( if you don't want to leave chalky tracings or are sewing on gauzey fabrics.) Also can use it on edges of pages when crafting hand made books so you can sew an embellished design to decorate the pages. Many thanks for all your wonderful videos give me such pleasure. In the Hebrides we knit the jumper torso and the sleeves, then when you get to the armholes you knit a round that includes the " armpit "areas being knit together with the jumper armpit stitches- as knitting the stitches together as cast off-until you reach the body section, and knit on as usual. Then ,having joined the sleeves on in this way you continue knitting with the outer parts of the sleeves as part of the whole circle and " fittings the shoulders as usual ,ending with the neckline as crew neck or polo neck.( My grand aunt used to knit it from the neck down so that if one grew a "spurt" you could open up the cuffs and hem and add the extra length to accommodate the growth spurt!) Best wishes, J.I.M.K Mrs. Brisbane, Australia 🇦🇺 😀 ❤ Julia.😊
Thank you! We have a how to video on how we make ours: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8vwK4KlSxno.html and this one ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QffTXyz0Dkg.html
Picot edge? Carlos, you do look better, more energetic and just generally healthier. Arne looks so much happier and relieved. OMG! The bookshelves!! Those small handmade art journals!!! I love chubby little books full of pictures and notes and imagining sneaking in there and just browsing through them. Just to touch them would be so soft and wonderful.
My husband might be a bit dismayed to know how excited I got this morning when I realized that it was Wednesday and a new episode would drop! I think I had a smile on my face the entire time watching, but I almost lost it at the end when Arne suggested that you put on your tartan vests and do work out videos !!! I finished watching Joanna Lumley’s series last week and loved the part about The Kilted Coaches. There is a window cleaning company where I live where all the men wear kilts. I have not walked under one of their ladders. Just saying!!! 😎😎😎 More seriously, I really enjoy learning a bit more about your design process, your art journals and constant quest for inspiration. Also your enjoyment in the simple things in life, such as feeding your birds and hearing their songs. And making a doll with a beautiful cable sweater. And as always, your respect and appreciation of each other. I love the “leftover” sweater, Arne. It is a work of art and needs a more fitting name!!!! Off to take my Pairfect socks off the blockers!!! 🧶🧶🧶 ❤️ from 🇨🇦
You guys are so awesome! Thanks for giving of your time. So happy you are getting better Carlos, and Arne, I still have my collection of Nancy Drew books that I started reading 56 years ago. Great memories!
I love your old house! I live in a cookie cutter house and am always pushing my husband to give it some character! Your living room looks a lot like my laundry room (the car siding and color, I mean). Thanks for making my days!
I could watch this for hours.... and well, that;s what I am doing! It's funny, it's soothing and it gets the creative mind flowing. Loving the part about the moose and the discovery of Murakami.
Thank you for turning us onto The Last Homely House. Kate is wonderful to watch and listen. Thank you for your video. I really look forward to them. 😘💙🇺🇸
We are renovating our house that was built in 1930. Everything will have been replaced except for the wall studs and basement walls. We also did a large addition and doubled our square footage. When we are done this summer, we will NEVER renovate again! It's been ongoing for 6 years and I've had enough of living in a construction zone. Good luck with your renovations!
Arne, you can wrap the core of your wire frame with wool yarn, then cover with layers of white roving, felt it in layers to build up the form. Then add your colored roving and sculpt as you go, felting and layering up your form. Hope that helps. Think about sculpting.
I just love to sit and knit with you two. You compliment each other soooo well. Happy to hear your explanation of the backdrop with all those pages. I just finished a sweater and a pair of socks. I plan to watch your Norway style of knitting so I can master Brioche. Can't wait for your future technique videos on this subject. Carlos, still sending prayers for your continued recovery with therapy exercises. Arne, that left-over sweater is gorgeous, it gives me inspiration to use up my scraps (most likely in a color-work cowl).
Your room might be messy, but I bet that you know where everything is at! I have the same issue, but if something is needed for myself or friends, I know exactly where to look! Creative people work like this! We multi task Creatively!!
Arne, your creativity & talent is truly amazing. Love your latest doll!! Would love to learn/watch how you machine sew your sweater seams.. Carlos, you were missed! it is so wonderful to see the color returning to your smiling face. Prayers for your continued healing.
i have never knitted brioche, it was sooo easy and fun to just keep going without have to pearl! Love you two i learn so much and enjoy your chats while i knit!
I love the Nancy Drew love! The delight on Arne's face when he talks about those books makes me smile! So great. These videos just get better and better...so look forward to them. Today I am weaving in ends on a just finished sweater while I watch. Perfect accompaniment.
I crochet and listen to your podcasts and I adore the two of you! I am going to try knitting the Norwegian way again, but I think I need wood or bamboo needles so I drop less stitches. I learned to knit back in 84 but my tension control was awful so I gave up. Carlos please give yourself a break on the memory issues, if that is the cost of still having you with us it is so worth a little frustration! After all, you can always always GOOGLE it! Love to you both
I like the painting behind Arne. Allers, with the two boys sitting on the sofa. They look like you two, and the sofa reminds me of your sofa. Thank you for being who you are, you are both just lovely and make me smile. ❤️
I put little booties on my 3.6kg Yorkie Poo and a puffy jacket. He used to resist booties, but he puts up with me now and appreciates going for walks without the cold and ice build up between his toe pads. We can walk comfortably up to -40C. ♥️ your love of animals! All the best! Another great podcast! 🥰
