Can’t wait for the daily Christmas advent knit along! For anyone who isn’t sure about trying double pointed needles - just give it a go. That’s what I did and I was surprised how easy it was, much better than magic loop in my opinion. Trust me, you won’t even notice anymore once you’re totally addicted to knitting these Christmas balls 😂

Agreed! And if you're struggling, maybe consider trying a different type of dpns. I started out with really slippery metal needles and they kept slipping out of my stitches. Then I switched to bamboo and have never looked back. The key is to experiment till you find the tool(s) that work for you.

I haven't used dpns for a while so I'm still struggling. Lol. Why is it when you learn something new you have to rediscover the old skills
@saramiller1371
@saramiller1371 3 года назад
100% agree! Dpns are the way to go for knitting in the round! And it’s not that hard, you’re really only using two needles at a time. The other 3 needles are just holding stitches as you work your way around. And I agree w sparkle that bamboo or wooden dpns are great, especially for beginners!

I am 60. I am knitting since 50 years and I use dpns since my first pair of socks with 11 years. Don't ask, how they looked like. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 So I rubbed them and knitted it a second time. It worked well and since this pair I love knitting socks. Everyone in my family loves selfknitted socks.

I love how Carlos always says that it is a 30-minute program, and then sometime in the program, usually around 45 minutes to an hour, he will remark that they have been talking for a little more than 30 minutes. It makes me chuckle every time. Thank you for spending "30 minutes" with us I look forward to it each week!

So fun laughing with you two this morning! For ppl who are new to using DPN's- I remember being afraid my work would fall off the needles. Use wooden needles. The stitches stick to them more than with metal needles. Also, because there will be so few stitches on each needle, you can keep the stitches in the center of each needle you're not vworking on, & they won't fall off. It's easier than it looks. Give it a try!

When I saw your mug and bag with the beetle and tree, I immediately ordered them. I will finally have my beetle! In one of you videos, please talk about your beetle. I recently ordered coffee that was highlighted in the tv show, New Scandinavian Cooking. It is amazing. I am saving the last of it to drink in my Arne & Carlos beetle mug. Love your videos. I'm very bad at doing this and so was my Mother. I found a complete stack of Christmas gifts my mother hid back somewhere between 2002 & 2010 when I was cleaning out the house after she passed away in 2010. They were tucked in back of the 2nd bedroom closet that wasn't used at all. So yeah I stopped hiding Christmas (or any) presents any more.

Great episode! I love the genealogy and the stories. The new mug is amazing. I love the humor and the interactions between you, I feel like we have really gotten to know you since you started doing the daily COVID episodes. The unedited episodes are my favorites because your personalities really come through and we see the real Arne and Carlos. Before this the edited episodes were (are) more like your landscaper Rob, you mow in your programmed pattern and make perfectly straight rows. In these episodes you don't just give us the information you mean to, you veer off the path and give us you. I really like that so much. I like you guys even more now. Hugs from your frazzled friend in Maryland moving to Virginia in less than 2 weeks (YIKES!). Downsizing from a large 4 bedroom home with a basement to a 3 bedroom condo that is TINY and has very little wall space for furniture and not enough room to put things away from the wall. My kitchen, dining, living area is smaller than my kitchen or about the same size as my kitchen here. I'm having a hard time getting rid of my husband's things, but a lot of it is going to one of my grandsons so that makes me happy. I'm having my surgery on December 17, just 2 weeks (or a bit less) after moving. I'm hoping this surgery makes me feel better, the pacemaker can't work properly right now so it didn't help. So much in such a short time! The Christmas balls are keeping me sane and giving me some peaceful moments in the craziness that is my life. Thank you for releasing them early for us.

I have a terrible memory for historical stories (and I didn't even have Covid like Carlos), but I know in Europe there was a thing called phyloxera that devastated vineyards all over the continent, and because of that it was difficult to impossible to get wine for quite a while, and that is when absinthe became wildly popular. I have a feeling that artists and people with romantic tendencies would also have enjoyed the aesthetic ritual of absinthe, with the drink being poured and then the water dripped over a sugar cube above the glass, making the drink turn cloudy. Added to that were the fanciful stories of drug-like effects, visions, etc., and the whole experience of drinking absinthe became almost mystical. All of that because people couldn't get their hands on a glass of wine! I mentioned before I don't usually go for merch, but I think you got me with the new mug. Good job!
@maggie2sticks717
@maggie2sticks717 3 года назад
You're correct and it was a Texas grape stock that saved the European wine industry. They were able to graft European stock onto the hardy Texas wild grape stock and it worked!

And that is why Absinthe became illegal. Lol. I also love the new mug.
@sunrhyze
@sunrhyze 3 года назад
@@candynkeith As soon as it became legal to buy some in the U.S. (I think around 2005, plus or minus), I bought a bottle and did the whole thing with the sugar cube, etc. I can't confirm the legends about visions because it wasn't an enjoyable drinking experience! I remember thinking people must have been pretty desperate to latch onto absinthe as their drink of choice. Goes to show there's something for everyone.

Arne, the sweater you are making from “scraps” is wonderful. Really fantastic!! Looking forward to the daily podcasts in December. We are sequestered again in WA, USA. Can’t visit other homes, so these podcasts from you will be an extra special gift. Have a beautiful holiday, and thanks again for sharing with us.

Whatever was in that blueberry compote, I’ll have some of that. These podcasts just keep getting better and better. A tonic during this awful time especiallyhere in the north of England at present.

I love love love your Christmas balls! I purchased your book and mini ball pattern and the advent and I’ve knit 17 this past week. My husband says he’s a Christmas ball widower. 😂😂We had a quiz last night to see if my kids could see the squirrel in the Christmas ball. I asked them what they saw? My husband was so tickled because of the “lovely lady squirrels.” And I said how do you know it’s a lady squirrel and he said because of the lovely beautiful tail. Your Christmas balls are quite the family fun factor for us right now. So thank you thank you!!!!! My teenagers and I think you guys are a hoot!

Things were so different in the old days. My brother got his first car when he was 13 years old. I can't remember what the model was, but I remember (and I was six) driving around on our farm in his car. We owned a huge amount of property, and he would be able to take us out for these hour-long rides! We were smokers at the age of 13, but we all stopped more than 20 years ago, thank goodness! Love listening to your stories about your grandparents.
