The twelve-part video series is meant to be a companion for those who are learning sitar, but it can also be used as a meditation. We created this video of the alap from beginning to end so that you can hear the piece in context (with beautiful bird song as accompaniment) and get the big picture of what it can sound like once all of the lines of music are put together. It’s also a little different in that it is the performance of the piece without the sitar notation (present in the actual practice videos) so that you can focus on the listening experience. Khamaj alap 08 was also filmed on the same day at this location. It was exciting to attempt a recording in a natural setting and to find some peace outside of the city (which was very much needed!) We were able to sneak in a few quiet swims on this very warm day of filming, and thankfully, the batteries held out long enough for us to capture this moment. We hope it will bring you joy.
