FYI the E9 was based on the old Scania DC14 14.2L V8, back when Mack and Scania had a cooperation deal going on. Just doesn't have the individual heads and the bore + stroke are different AFAIK. Everything else is pretty similar between the two including the single turbo at the back (which Scania still uses on the new DC16 16.4L V8). They also sound very similar, which is to say it sounds very good, and if it's built anything like the Scania stuff, it'll outlast a fair chunk of people alive today. When Renault bought Mack they very briefly sold it in Europe in the original Magnum (back when it was called the AE Magnum, also sold in AUS as a Mack funnily enough). Mounted to ZF synchronized manuals, probably 16 speed ones given the E9 was the high end engine in that truck. Not very many people bought it though since not very many people bought the Magnum's to begin with as the cab design was pretty stupid all things considered. People still joke about Magnum drivers bringing in papers with teeth marks on them 11 years after they made the last one lol. Cool piece of kit that truck though. Fairly rough all things considered but a good stash of parts if nothing else. Going to have to thank the youtube algo for this video haha.
That E9 does sounds so sweet tho! I gotta say I don't think I've ever seen an E9 with a single stack before. I too got burned on FB marketplace a while back.
Well sir, I understand you’re upset. It could be a good truck. It’s gonna take some elbow. Grease to get it there, but don’t buy anything on site unseen lesson learned my friend.
Look man, I get it. You got played….. but really, you played yourself and got hustled like everyone does at a used car dealer. People get shitted on all time and end buying a lemon for a car. WTH did you expect when buying equipment from 94’ without ever taking an in person look??? Never buy equipment from ANYONE sight unseen. You did it to yourself bro.
Only a V12 would sound better than the V8. Too band that there are no big V8 diesel engines offered for highway use in North America. Scania is the only 16 liter V8 diesel left on the European market. At least you still have one manufacturer in Europe which offers a V8 in a big truck. Can’t even import Scania V8 trucks in the US unless the darn thing is ancient, 25 years old or more.
On a previous video a guy commented that his father had a 72 R 686 237 well his numbers are off, in 72 there was no 686 yet the 237 was a 685 when the 300 ( 285) came out in late 74 IT was the 686
I don't think you got hurt to bad on it. The v8 is worth quite a bit. You can't really trust anyone even family but all you can do is try to be as honest you can and try to treat people good
Stop knocking the bulldog- 30 + years and its still got big swagger- name another truck left in the elements that survived like this- thats the MACK way ,son.
We love your channel and your son seems to be having the time of his life. There's a great channel on here called BigPaulsTrucking and he has a Mack tractor just like your tri axle with an E9 in it. Keep up the good work. Are you going to put the engine into a better cab and frame? Big Paul says they are a very rare breed, so you probably accidently got a GOOD Marketplace deal. Take care. Bill
I hope my mans rapping skills are better than his description of truck. If not he’s not gonna do to well. Hope you got a good deal on it. Great Chanel. Keep up the good work
I love all the old Mack's I've been driven the old Mack's for years I got a 1969 mack R model with the 237motor and the 6 speed two stick I put a dump on it I like your channel thanks for sharing 👍
I feel for you I did something similar when I bought an R model the man told me everything was great he just couldn’t get anyone to drive the old truck that was a lie when I got it home I had to immediately go to work on it just to be able to drive it 😢😢😢
If you were foreign, you could just buzz the frame up with 6011, mud the hole in the roof, and put the tag off your pickup on it and run it. Non-Americans are exempt from all those pesky laws. My buddy down the street has towing for a section of the highway here. And you wouldn't believe the junk he brings in after they wreck. Lots of times all the paperwork is fraudulent, and he has a hard time figuring out who even owns the truck. And lots of times the drivers run away on foot and are headed home to wamba-jamba land on the next flight
SCORE! I LOVE A THUMPER!!! We have almost no Macks here in Cali and certainly no E9s anymore to hear. We DO have MANY drug dealers I mean rappers washing money in trucks tho too!
800 hp somebody is dreaming not bad trucks but 800 hp not a chance I've driven them been around them as soon as they see a hill they slow down but there good trucks
