Sitka Alaska is one of our favorite ports on an Alaska Cruise. It has a very long history, great wildlife viewing, lots of activities and a fun place to walk around.
In this video we give you the details on the top things to see and do. We talk about the Sitka National Historical Park, park of the US National Park Service. The Alaska Raptor Center, The Fortress of the Bear, The Tlingit Tribal Community House, St Michael's Cathedral, The Russian Bishop's House, Food Trucks, Kayaking, mountain biking and even snorkeling.
Sitka National Historical Park has lots of totum poles including some ancient ones over a century old. It is a great place to see salmon, eagles, and ravens.
We give you an quick overview of the history of Sitka from the Tlingit to Russians, to Americans.
Our recommendation of a great day is to see the Sitka National Historical Park, the Alaska Raptor Center, and the Tlingit Tribal Community House and then enjoy walking around Sitka.
The Sitka cruise ship pier is about 6 miles north of the city of Sitka and we talk about the easiest way to get back and forth from the pier to the city.
