Barton Ramsey breeds, trains and hunts labs nearly 365 days a year, but he’ll be the first to tell you, “The dogs enhance my life more often than I do anything for them.”
Labs are God’s gift to undeserving humans! I have had four over my 76 years. They all lived to a ripe old age. I don’t think I ever met four people I could honestly say we’re better than those dogs. My current Lab is continuing that tradition.
I’ve had three labs in my 61 years and I’m spinal cord injured of 46 years post injury. My last lab who just passed away last week Rufus train service dog, best friend, and soulmate. He’s so dearly missed. I’m looking for another male lab to take his place.
Eh. E collars are great for training. Once trained and seasoned, they are pointless on a good dog. I use to put one on my dog while hunting, but 95% of the time I didnt turn it on or the batteries were dead.
Miles Newton Exactly my Chesapeake has to have one on every time we go out hunting or training. Because if she goes out like 50+ yards for a retrieve, and does something like drop the training dummy for example. By the time I get there she won’t know what she did wrong. A e collar allows to correct on the spot.
Just put my dog (14yo) down a week ago and this made me tear up again. I use to be a pro dog trainer and my dog was the first dog I learned to train on. He was my hunting partner, my companion, my best friend. I miss him dearly.
Lost one of my best friends a couple months ago to ITP.. 5 year old chocolate lab named Jasper. This video did the same to me. I miss him beyond words too man.
Your story is the same as mine. I'm 49yrs old and just put my boy down. Training him was such a joy. Hunt test were our passion. He's gone and I'm lost. I have another 4mobth. Chocolate I'm working with. I can only hope she can give me the joy my partner Decoy gave me.
You definitely get my passion. My five year old doesn't have a pedigree. He probably will never win any kind of field trial. But he's never missed a mark and he would give the heart from his chest just to hear me say "good job".
"Speak kindly to me beloved master. Revel in my unconditional love, and give me every minute that you can spare, for my time with you is short" - Labrador Retriever
I had a 14 year old black lab, Winnie. This choked me up as well. They definitely leave a mark on you. The narrator said "family members for the next 12-15 years" and I know he was referring to their living years, but the truth? They stay with you forever.
our 13 yr old yellow lab passed a month ago. Absolutely the best lab i've had. It's going to be a long time to get over him. Allot of people don't understand why I would be that broke up over just a dog. He wasn't even a dog. He was friend and a companion. I know he's with my mom up above at his own lake, with unlimited things to retrieve. God bless our 4 legged family members.
To those of us who have' had one? We understand completely. Really sorry to hear about your loss, all I can say is that it does get easier but you never ever forget.
I raise puppies for a non profit Org that provides Guide Dogs for blind people at no cost. Only about 30% of the dogs make it as a Guide Dog because it takes such a special dog. I have two labs that I ended up adopting after they were career changed. I am a single older man and these two wonderful labs are my family and I feel so loved with them sleeping on each side of me every night.
I just lost my lab at the age of 7 from a vehicular accident Two days ago. She was taken early from me….a love unmatched and probably never will be. There is just something about them that taps down deeper than most emotion will ever reach. I lost my baby girl.
Labs curs and catahoulas that's all myself and my kids will ever have. From herding our live stock to guarding and protecting the family. Working dogs are for working families.
Watching this innumerable number of times is absolutely priceless! Rightfully said, Labs are just not part of our journey in life. They engulf an immortal story within us.
Each man is entitled to one good dog and one good horse in this life. And i always feel sorry for those other dogs and horses that have to live up to the memory of that one.
Great video, as my lab enters her golden age I remember when she would jump into the water chasing Canada geese, well frankly we both would for fun, I am not a hunter. I love the breed, best family dog ever, loyal as hell, and she has never needed a fence to stay in the yard. Walks 10 feet behind me as I cut the lawn.
Have to admit, that made me tear up. Have had labs my whole adult life. Now I have Daisy. Love her just like all the others I've had. Her second year starts soon.
Having dealt with Barton through social media, I can say this man is dedicated to his craft beyond belief and a great all around guy. SOK is an awesome company and breeds the best pups in the world.
Okay I like this, I just want to joke around and say when he says “ most people wake up and check instagram “ “ I check the weather” I don’t check instagram until after lunch” haha so funny.
Awesome video! The group I train with and hunt with uses labs for upland hunting as well. My pup (only 8 months old now) held a point on a chukar for over 10 seconds on his very first bird exposure. He seems to have a natural knack for ducks, maybe even more so than pheasant, quail or chukar, but like you mentioned in your video, I love every second with him out in the field, whether its training or hunting.
One of the best vids I've seen in a long time. Watching the dogs work has been one of my favorite things about waterfowling from the beginning. Finally getting to run my own dog has taken it to a level that I didn't even know existed until now. You guys nailed it!
Love our heelers to death... not hunting dogs like labs but they look at you the same way... unconditional love... wouldn't trade that feeling for anything. Awesome video and good luck with your dogs and hunting!
I'm always fascinated when someone has that certain passion that's makes them the very best at what they do. I know nothing about dog training, but I value and respect the level of consistancy this guy has for getting out there every day and doing what he loves. Awesome video👍
wow, what a video, chills watching it and the dogs....... next level breeding there. keep grinding, hard work pays off on all those cold wet miserable morning when its just you and your dog.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Lab ❤️!! I knew I was gonna tear up as soon as the video started. My 4 yr old lab, Rocket, just got some tight hugs and he looked at me like,”What’s up?”
Jeez, if only I could produce a video half as good as that ! Stunning. Next to my kids my pair are my world, I am in Scotland training for and working on driven shoots , pheasant, partridge, duck, grouse with the odd rabbit. Again stunning video and content .
As a retired USAF military working dog handler, trainer, and kennel master. This .... this is why they are mans best friend. Rip Durban D250/ Ate J241. Just say when... thanks sitka for that.
Well, my brother's lab hunts with us all the time. Howard (the dog) really loves watching these videos. No joke. He goes crazy when he sees dogs on the screen... and ducks.
I have loved the 2 Labs I’ve had ,but I’m a water spaniel guy , but take them down to the lake and the difference is pretty amazing, the labs loved routine, yard work then retrieving, the 2 curly knot heads would do the yard work and about 10 minutes of retrieving work and get bored,if it didn’t have gun fire ,and feathers they weren’t interested , and the labs would retrieve until they damn drowned. But all 4 of these dog were like an extension of my arm ,I miss them
My dad was a hunter. He told his friends he got a dog, and they all just assumed he got a hunter. My dad joked back for years, oh yeah, I got a hunter. Lol. Our lab multi mix was just a family dog all the way. These guys in this video are a different character all together. But I love em all
Beautiful dogs......have 14 yr old english and while its toward end she has been the best thing in my life and such an awesome creature.....everyone she meets wants to take her home........she basically trained herself, so so smart!
Rescued a Lab-Mastif (Mastador), ended being a great all around outdoor dog, runs rabbits, hounds deer, fantastic flusher, a little jumpy for ducks though. She knows when I start throwing stuff in the truck its on, and she just goes crazy. By the way, the filming and music were phenomenal, I felt like I watched a short film, but yall really captured the feeling of the bird dog and connection with the hunter and the environment. Fantastic!
I'm thankful that my first dog was a lab. There's a reason why they are the most popular dog in America. They are beautiful animals. This film is an amazing homage to the best breed in the world.
Awesome ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I have a lab ( Jase ) he is always so obedient and loving I’m not a duck or waterfowl hunter but I enjoy watching videos of hunters using dogs to retrieve wild game so amazing to see a Lab having a great time outdoors. Thanks for sharing, enjoy and have a Great Friday !!! Danny
I have a couple GSP puppies. Not a Lab but I loved this video. Incredibly uplifting and inspiring. Looking forward to the training.. and specially the company of a loyal gun dog.
Incredible video. My dog Hunter just turned 10 weeks old. Since day one, we have been working on retrieving and him learning how to get down and using his nose. For now, we will focus on dove hunting. I may start waterfowl hunting now, though. Labs are just the best
Great video . I have a rescue lad My wife and I received from a human society. Besides my wife and our two sons she has been the greatest gift i have ever been giving. She is my angel from God!
Working and being a relevant person in society is the most satisfying, Congratulations Barton R, extraordinary video, you see the great passion and ability to train these great adventure friends. I follow your videos and am enrolled in southern oak kennels.
Can someone tell me who filmed this and teach me a few things? Love the editing, the narrative, the different shots, excellent work. I keep coming back for inspiration.
My 7 month old Lab is at his training now. We miss him very much . He won’t be a hunting dog. I just wanted an obedient Labrador. We got him from wildrose kennels in Oxford. Can’t wait to get him back
