Sitting Bull Falls New Mexico- an Oasis in the Desert!

Sitting Bull Falls, New Mexico is truly, an Oasis in the desert! This gem is located about 1 hour from Carlsbad on the other side of the mountains from Carlsbad Caverns. This is one of my all time favorite destinations in New Mexico!
This reliable water source is found deep in the Guadalupe Mountain Range in the Lincoln National Forest. The path we took was from 285 just North of Carlsbad near Brantley Lake State Park, we turned onto highway 137 (also known as the Guadalupe Backcountry Byway). The last turn is highway 409, sitting bull falls road. This path is fully paved, but it does have several low spots that do occasionally flood, several of which look like they had been washed out.
Sitting Bull Falls recreation area is a picnic area with several hiking trails. The area has been developed quite nicely with a handicap accessible trail covered picnic tables with barbecue grills, and bathroom facilities with running water.

I had NO IDEA about this place. Truly spectacular. If I suddenly woke with the power of teleportation, I'd visit this area daily for a chill out spot. 😄

I loved visiting Sitting Bull Falls when I was in Jr. High School in the mid 1960s. It was a lot less developed then. I hope to be able to see it again. Thanks for the video!

I live in Hobbs New Mexico, every time I go to Ciudad Juárez or El Paso Tx. I pass by those places in the Guadalupe National Park and it is really amazing, that whole area is wonderful.

Summertime everything is green and lush, but summer months are way too busy. Spring or fall is the best time to visit but during the summertime that icy water feels goooooood. Nice video. thank you for the shoutout to my area :)

You can camp just outside the gate there is a split trail off the road and an amazing campsite nestled into a large rock face, we saw the Mexican free tailed bats there a few nights ago. It is free to camp just pull over in the obvious area JUST outside the gate.

Beautiful waterfall, what a gem! Super windy at some point but that's the beauty of being at the top! I think anywhere " rocky " I plan in the US, I'll double check with you if it's a good spot haha, incredible how much we're learning from you, keep it up!

Thanks! The walk to the falls is short and paved. The walk up to the top was maybe 1/4-1/3 of a mile I think and steep- but worth it!

@@ricardo-sn9ug yes if it has wheels. I’m not sure if they have rules against that. Its a paved path to the overlook- then just a few steps down to play on the rocks and see the pools
