That is one of the smallest cabs Scania makes. The biggest one has a completely flat floor, and you can stand upright in the cab with more than a foot of room between your head and the roof. Plus plenty of storage. They are super nice

Josh, one or two things I would like to point out, for better understanding of the European trucks, obviously to get your American, Canadian and other followers into the swing of things. That Scania is a vehicle designed for hard work, of road, deliveries and pic-ups, mainly construction, therefore it as no bed, we call it day cab, the same truck in a semi, we call it artic, usually as a bed, even two, one above the other, you mention the mirrors, Scania mirrors are like that, Volvo, DAF, MAN, Mercedes, Iveco, the mirrors are fitted the other way round, the larger mirror on top instead. Another thing, most recently, Mercedes started that trend, new trucks come with mirrorcams, meaning instead of mirrors, you get cameras and to see what's going on around you, you get two monitors inside of the cabin one on each side, very high tech our trucks this days. One more thing, you've asked Martin if that was a radio, on this new Scandia's the radio is on the dashboard, to the right of the steering wheel, that unit you saw, is the Tachograph, here in Europe we use digital cards, like a credit card, at the start of your day, you insert the card into slot one, that's for the person driving, there's a slot 2 in case of two drivers working together, when they swap seats, they swap the cards from slot 2 to slot 1 and slot 1 to slot 2, it registers everything, when you finish your day, you get the card out and by the office you do the download into a scanner into the system. Long comment I know, but the idea was to inform our friends from across the pond.

You made a Good point in everything you Said. THE sad thing is that THE American truck drivers Will never understand and they don't Care either so Sadly again, No point. Scania tried to enter THE US market, I even bought One bur ok, let me Keep this Short and sweet. Life and living and being and rules etc etc is so different in THE US. Canada, is more like Europe THE US is by itself another country. Again, in general and I'm trying to be really polite here again but People in THE US, they don't Care about THE Euro system about almost everything. Even those really poor gosh, living in tents out in THE Snow and you ask Them get, with country is THE best and THE greatest country on Earth ? They answer THE USA so there it is 😊

The “radio” is a Tacógrafo. It’s the European E Log Book. All drivers have they own personal card to put inside the tachograph and control the working hours and speed limit also the place that you started and finished your trip. When the police stops you so they will request you to print the last 90 days of your tachograph information and so you can be charged if you run over your working hours. Older trucks had a paper tachograph.

Ok, Martin probably doesn’t drive trucks. Just to help inform any Canadians.The gadget above the drivers head isn’t a radio it’s called a tachograph, the driver puts his tacho card into the machine and it records everything from speed to hours of duty and rest periods to comply with European working time directive laws. Secondly the truck was class 2 (rigid or dz in Canada) so it’s a much smaller truck and living space. The (articulated or az in Canada) has a decent sized bed and more living space.

There is a company in Europa that specialize in modify Scania trucks. where you can for example get the biggest cap, Scania make and double it in size. You can also get a nose variant. Scania stopped producing the nose variant in 2005 (but mod. companies does it now, instead). The nose version of scania is called T(orpedo), so if you for example search "Scania T580" you will find one. Note on Scania's the model number (R580 or T590 or G500 etc.) stand for horsepower. That mean that this little dump truck hava a inline 500hp engine and with that wheel setup, I think it will not do any long range driving, but more offroad driving (construction/mines/quarry/etc.)

The European cabovers are simply the best. We still have KW COEs over here in NZ, still manufactured in Australia. But we have lots of Volvos, Scania, MANs, DAFs, and other European trucks. All of the cabovers easily beat the KW as they all have completely flat floors, no massive doghouse between the seats. And very quiet as well. Love your channel Josh!

That's one of the smaller cabs, though. The G-cab is basically a day-time truck. It has the same chassis as the R and S, but has a lower cab with a bigger engine tunner. Some come with a bed as well, but not all of them. The step bigger would be the R-cab. Higher cab, lower engine tunnel (about 15cm on 5- and 6-series and about 10cm on nextgen) and comes with a bed. Optional fridge and freezer under the bed. You can also get a microwave that's usually placed in the central storage space over your head. Some also have coffee machines and you can put them wherever you want almost. Some have them over over by the passenger side and some have them in the right storage space. Those are the ones I've seen. In a Volvo FH, you can have the coffee maker under your bed, as well. Bigger still, is the Scania S-cab. floor is completely flat. No engine tunnel. Bigger storage under your bed (usually fridge and freezer if you're a highway driver). You sit about 15cm higher in the S-cab than you do in the R-cab. Only difference is that they elevate the driver and passenger positions so that it's in level with the engine tunnel. Scania and Volvo are, by far, the best truck manufacturers in Europe. Hell, I'd say they're the best n the world. They are the only ones in the "How-powerful-can-we-make-our-engines-competition" and they are the only commercial truck manufacturers that produce engines with over 700hp from factory. MAN had a 680hp V8, but retired the engine and now has a 640hp I6 as their most powerful instead. Merc are still straggling in the low 600s, DAF are still in the low 500s, as are Iveco and Renault.

@Langexmh
@Langexmh 2 года назад
US trucks are built for ease of maintenance (the nose for instance provides easier access to the engine) and durability/reliability, while in Europe, every little new piece of technology is stuffed in there. If you have a breakdown in Europe, the next shop is only a dozen miles or so away (I know Scandinavian readers will disagree here), while in North America, it might be hundreds of miles away. Notwithstanding the different regulations as to weight, turning angle, clearance height and width, and above all: length! Eurotrucks need to be shorter due to these regulations and thus need to accommodate the engine under the cabin to have more space available for the trailer. So, the perceived lag is intentional. They'd have the means in North America to put more technology in trucks, yet, it would backfire. Electronics nowadays is the major source of failures. North America applies the KISS principle for a reason.

That’s a tiny Scania the big highway trucks are huge and you can stand up in them! And they have over 700 hp! You have to have the autobahn experience! I’ve done it multiple times but I have two stand out memories. My first memory is taking a V8 Jaguar at 150 mph, the other was a TVR Griffith that for a very short time got over 170 mph! Hi Martin from Germany! Nice to have you over and thank you for helping us see the Scania. Their design is top shelf. One of the case studies we read and discussed for my MBA explored Scania's modular systems design philosophy. I cringed a bit too when the Scania rep was almost humble-bragging about how small the sleeper was. A small sleeper is no bueno in US/Canada OTR. I do hope that the Scania team listens to you and others. If they want to sell intracity trucks they could focus on importing their Euro model direct (with safety mods as necessary) as their Euro-sleeper is a daybed by NA standards.. Do not think for a minute a small sleeper is an asset in the US or Canada for OTR. Our OTR drivers want a mini-condo on the road to be comfortable. The majority of Canadian and American truck drivers (except for SW US) are solid blue-collar generational Canadian or American, not fresh-off-the-boat. They expect more comfort. I want to see Scania succeed and compete so I hope they listen to feedback like you as well as feedback from test markets and focus groups.

THE Scania People is not going to listen. They did not DO it back Then in THE -80 and -90sh when they tried to enter THE US market. I even back Then tried to till Them what they did wrong and that's another story. They don't want to mingle in with American whatever. As an exeple and here it is: Back Then, they should have shipped över only Scanias Daycab and had American sleeper cabs installera beyond THE Scania Daycab as a exemple. And Then, alloved THE American to chose witch drive train they want just like Volvo aloves THE drivers or buyers to DO. You never ever see a American Volvo having that Swedish engine and drive train. Yes, you see THE CAB ok that American Volvo CAB but THE engines are ok Cummins, Catepillar etc etc. And Scania as being Scania and THE Scania Swedish People being very proud stubbern People, they Will never have anything else in a Scania only Scania everything. This Scania is G series, the R and S series would be more long drive sleeper cab long haul (not as much as American trucks but in Europe there is less space for the nose and it can be tricky enough with eu trucks as it is) . G series is like the dump truck that be more local use or rougher terrain.

Here in Ireland we have them Self Greaser on all the truck's for year's and they work great. But just check every time you are refilling it that all the point's are getting Grese because sometimes a pipe can come lose or the point can be blocked and not getting Grese. They work great.

I remember the self greaser back in 80s, on one Merc my father had. It was the top of the top model back then, with all the comforts and features that Merc could offer.

Scania do make a cab with a hood its called a bull nose, and also there is new legislation in Europe allowing extra length to the cabs, its only about 8 inches but it makes quite a bit of difference, DAF which is part of Paccar is the first manufacturer to inroduce it.

About the grease gun, no, we still use it in places that can not have a grease line, like shafts.

Hi Nick! Precisely. It was a matter of linguistics. To say something is like the "Cadillac of ..." would be conveyed in Europe as being the "Mercedes of ...". But you are absolutely right, the comparison limped a little. BTW: Daimler Trucks and their North-American brand Freightliner was just behind Scania at the show.

Don't like memory seats unless you can also set them yourself. The one in my truck never adjusts right because I'm tall and it drops down every time you get out of the truck. Then I have to readjust it higher than it will on its own for my weight.

I hope scania become successful in America because I would love to have one down here where I'm at because I go to a lot of neighborhoods so having the shortness of a day cab but the space of a sleeper and a smoother ride of a modern truck would be great.

@@tcb1017Paccar is bringing their DAF trucks under "Peterbilt" badges but only as Class B trucks and Scania is putting their technologies in International trucks. Even as we speak there's Scania trucks sitting in International yards waiting to be shipped here in America. As much as my generation of truckers keep asking for Cabovers I'm sure that "never" might not last long.

The Scania is more liek the Rolls Royce of trucks... EVERY truck driver in the UK and Europe wants to be behind the wheel of a Scania V8
@theworldaccordingtochris4370
If a European truck manufacturer gets into North America and companies see the quality, capability and toughness you could see US manufacturers with a MAJOR problem in years to come. European trucks are light-years ahead of US built trucks. It happened to UK established truck manufacturers, the European trucks came in and demolished them, i can see the same happening to US makers.
@Trucker_Josh
@Trucker_Josh Год назад
Lol... agree to disagree on that one. They've tried before. They can't come close to American made trucks in any competition. They wouldn't sell here. They're uncomfortable, unappealing to the eyes, very plain and simple, cabovers, very expensive to maintain like any other European vehicle and extremely unpopular. I don't think you could sell North Americans on downgrading to European trucks.
@theworldaccordingtochris4370
@@Trucker_Josh crikey, delusional or what 🤣🤣🤣🤣. US trucks are rattling shite, over chromed heaps with antiquated gearboxes 18 speed Eaton's that don't know what real torque is.

Scania will enter the Canadian market after the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) was signed in 2016. For the CA market, as mentioned in the video, for highway trucks, Scania needs to add bigger sleepers. For mining trucks, though, they are big enough. And that's the focal point.
