I'm 55 and I want to learn this since I am a disabled vet with PTSD so, thank U for this video and I have been researching this form and know this is the 1st and most important step :)
@@anthonyalvarez6658 Hi Anthony, I'm 50 ( 51 this year) I have right sided Hemiparesis and have Osteo arthritis. I used to practice Wing chun as a teenager. Its never left me! I'm going thru a revival with this magnificent art, at present. I don't think I will ever be able to practice again, with the above. I still think one could gain power by immersing yourself into it, mentality + studying it, scientifically (?) I will always believe Wing chun to be superior to any fighting system in and out of the martial arts. I could be wrong in stating this, and forgive me if I am, but I believe even Bruce Lee would admit to this?
I appreciate the video. I am relearning this after years off from a back and knee injury. Wing Chun, and especially this form is a life long art of discovery. I have seen Yip Man do this when he was in his late seventies. I continue on my journey of this wonderful art.
Ten Years , too late , just started WingChun here in MALAYSIA, BORNEO- I’m an AMERICAN , retired here in Malaysia. I have Studied “HUNG GAR KUEN” for almost 17 years …. On and off , but falling in love with WingChun . It’s only been 3 Classes , but thinking of sticking around for my two classes a week !!! I am 63- and finally realize that martial arts keeps you young ! Besides- can’t do those “TAEKWONDO FLYING SPINNERS ROUND HOUSE”kIcks … ! Just needed to say May God Bless forget you and your family ! You help me at home SOoooo Much ! Always , Your Student…. David Heredia III !
I had to step away from my studies of Wing Chun about 3 years ago. This video is great for me to reference on the form . Thanks for the post as it will come in handy for me.
I miss my friend Kenan , who showed me Wing Chun...before I had low confidence, and I felt good and empowered by his one on one training...I went to a Wing Chun class they showed me forms, etc with little one on one training that made me feel bad ....so please take my advise, when a student quits, in many cases, you failed him.....the spirit of martial arts is love of what your doing , nothing else 💝💝😍
I think that when a person quits anything, they fail themselves. To blame anyone else, you give away your power (for lack of a better word). With all due respect, some schools suck. Don't quit. Move on and find another school or just train alone. But if you like it and got a benefit... Continue.
Thank you for posting this reference for those of us who just can't seem to get the whole form to stick in memory. That said, it may just be the camera angle, but your elbows appear fully extended when punching, which gains depth of penetration but practically begs for leverage attack. Also, remember that Fook Sau means "Resting Hand". As long as the energy extends from the elbow, the hand and forearm needn't be tense. Your Tan Sao is nice and relaxed. Let that inform your Fook Sau as well. Beyond that, you're lookin' good. Keep it up!
Thank you for this video. I originally learned this form from a book. Videos like this one have helped me learn more about this form and see how it looks as you move from one move to another. I also liked that you listed the names of the moves as well.
Thanks. Best version of SLT and you use all the correct terms for the hands and movements and do it at a great pace. (This is exactly the version of SLT that my Wing Chun school does so helps me even more. Never thought I'd get anywhere near to completing it but am getting there; though never perfected, I can at least show I understand and demonstrate it to a good level). Practice, practice, practice! That's what I will be doing. :)
I have not trained for some years but find myself practicing Siu Lim Tao & this video is good refresher on terminology. Win Chun is only MA that in training you get to spend much time slapping & kicking around a dummy, which in 2023 is good stress relief in age of dummies everywhere.
Please do more instructional videos. this video is amazing, very clear, very informative. Thank you. Maybe some shifting in position, stepping, etc. Any new videos will be added to my favorites!!!!! Thanks again!!!!
Thanks a lot for your video ! i start to learn Wing Chun this year and i like it very much ! You help me really coz you go slowly and it's great to work with your example !! and you give names too, that's great to keep in memory !!
That is looking good, the more you practice and feel and know what to do you keep improving. Nice snap and camera angles too In first section: as you move your tan sau fwd, remember to leave some bend in elbow at the end when you then huen sau to jut. (Not a fully straight elbow/arm)You need the 135* elbow bend for strength and structure and so you can also attack by extending it a bit. In second section when you do fak sau - jut back to right arm on left - roll arms to double jum sau - double tan sau, then as you double huen sau, next be sure to double jut/ jerk your hands in and down slightly towards your core and THEN do the double biu saus. Overall, nearly every time you do a tan sau your arm is fully extended instead of having bend in elbow. Practice that slight drop of elbow to have a little bend after every punch or palm strike. It offers better coverage from attack, shock absorption, ability to counter strike , and more. A fully extended arm is tense, can be swatted out of the way by your attacker and will turn your body away with it, opens up your side to hooks and strikes. Nice overall video, good to spread the knowledge
Very nice Siu Lum Tao this was how i was taught by my sifu Russel Cichon the variations at the end in so many videos are always a little different slight movements that separate lineages. Thank you for the vid.
I'm 72 years old and, I've studied Northern Shao-lin, Yang Tai-chi, and Shing-Yi with Grandmaster Wong Jack Man. Thank you for this video. It's just about my speed. Do you have this in the other sets? Again, thank you very much.
I practiced Wing Chun for two years in my twenties and loved it kept training till early thirties kept my little idea tight till 2002. Any how trying to regain my form and remember the things I used to know this video is very nice. Thank you,
Very Good! Great form and great video. Awesome captions, naming the techniques as you did the form and cool, that you shot some of it from the side. It would be great if you shot a side-view for any vids you do, in future. FPOV & SPOV. If you have the time could you please do the same for the Chum Kiu and Biu Ji forms. For those that don't know or understand the difference between Traditional Wing Chun and Modified Wing Chun, this is a / the "real" Traditional Wing Chun form. Again, Great!
Thank you for this video, I like how it's filmed and removing the colour is good. I've not practiced for 6 years due to too much work not enough Dow, bad excuse. I'll be revising first form.
For me as an beginner one of the best vids so far for the siu nim tao wing tsun form, only the frame of the vid could be a little bit larger, some figurs are out of the frame, thanks a lot
I thought your video was very good and helpful. I noticed that I do sil lim tao slightly differently but like language, there are always variations. Thank you kindly for sharing.
always focus on your elbow controlling your arms. don't pull your hand back, drop your elbow down and then slightly raise your elbow out . use rings to strengthen your forum
I learned this form 20 years ago from Sifu Chris Chan's top students in San Francisco CA. I also observed Chris perform it. But having forgotten it, I have been surfing RU-vid looking for a complete demo. Not only is this by far the best view, but the handwork and angles are exactly as I remember. The critical comments below are incorrect and show lack of understanding. These moves are SUPPOSED to be done with tension. They are to strengthen tendons and focus chi. Chris Chan was Bruce Lee's best friend. They learned together directly from Yip Man. End of story.
i have a question. i got this app wingchun trainer and its has all the tecniques. i started to do siu lim tao but it has different motions. for example that palm roundig is way circle in the app than this video.
Gavin, don't be deceived. If all you do is very relaxing in this movement, you don't develop any force. You need the tension, broe. Or it is just ballet.
I have a question for you . during Wu Sao hear a click inside of the elbows . I think is the tendon that moves and gives me trouble . May I be fluid or hard, does not change . What do you think it should?
Andrew Tosi lack of training would not say .. I practice martial arts since I six years now I have thirty . but this appeared after 2 years of wing chun ... the doctor told me I should be due to the tendon of the little finger ! : D maybe I took a turn and I have not noticed ! I hope to go away! :P
I understand that between 0:35 and 0:40 roughly The wrist movement is to condition the wrist Is there other movements in other forms to condition the ankle ?
Just a suggestion, watch sifu Goah and sifu Sonny Le sil nim tao and get the application for the first form, little idea having no footwork , then move to the next form, chum kiu with footwork and the application. From these masters you can learn if you have the patience, thank you for sharing
unorthodox wing chun your mixed with ty chi the tensed up slowed flexed movements, not a bad method in my opinion because now you can mix it with muay ty....
Can you make the second wing chun videos about cham-kiu and biu-ze, hand to hand technique, ring-hole technique, wooden-dummy technique, double butterfly-knife technique long-staff technique, sensitive wing chun-hearing technique and the final level wing chun long-leg/high-leg kick pls.
See how he is doing the form in fire. You can also do it in water to practice better as the movements should be more slow and relaxed. Or eartb to keep it slow but very tight. Great vid nontheless.
