A step-by-step follow along guide through the first form of Wing Chun, siu nim tao. In this video Neil Parris guides you through the FIRST SECTION of Siu nim tao - little idea form.
With this tutorial you can practice and supplement your learning of the first form sequence accompanied by the names of many Wing chun techniques and their translations.
Siu nim tao, sometimes written "siu lim tao" is the first form learned by the Wing Chun student. Although siu nim tao can differ slightly depending on where you learn, much remains the same and like an iceberg, much of the first form exists beneath the surface where you need to look for yourself to see whats there.
Once you're comfortable with this part of the first form (siu nim tao) sequence, move on to the next step by step guide which covers both section 2 and 3 to complete the pattern of the first form. FIRST FORM SECTION 2 AND 3 GUIDE: • WING CHUN FIRST FORM G...
Please subscribe and hit the bell to receive a notification when the other parts of the first form are uploaded. Thank you for watching this basic Wing Chun siu nim tao guide, we hope it is of use to you in your Wing Chun training.

Practiced for a few years in Houston when I was in my 20s. I can say with 100% certainty that this is proper wing chun form. Good stuff. Its rare to see the real thing on RU-vid. Lots of people out there doing wing chun all wrong. There are subtle give aways that you can still see even if you haven't done it in decades.

Good form but in my class for years we were taught to keep our fingers together to keep the form tight and to avoid your fingers being slightly apart in sparring or combat which the fingers being slightly apart could get jammed up causing an injury potentially.Even in the form which becomes muscle memory and natural reaction its good to keep the fingers together.Together there is more support and strength. from the entire hand. Used to practice for about 10 years but focused on distance running now..Kalif🌇

You must have learned through Ip Man's lineage as well or just had a really great Sifu. Same here but i still had to learn the hard way. Still have all fingers though 😅

In Tai Chi they did teach me some parts with exaggeration, but made it clear you don't want to really do that in a fight.

Its been a long time. I became handicap and had to stop. Even though i am still on oxegen 24/7 i really want to learn the forms and the 108 wooden dummy form. you are don't the form exactly as i was shown at 19. i am going to enjoy relearning the forms. I finally found someone that does them the way my Sifu had. tomorrow i will get to it.

when the hand comes back from wu sau it's imitating taking a hit. And everybody know that when you are taking a hit you have to squat little bit

When you do the fuek sou are you using tension pushing out or relaxed I’m new so jw trying to learn
@CentralWingChun
@CentralWingChun 3 года назад
Hello Lil keek, while doing the fook sau, you should only activate the muscles required to create and maintain the shape. Although there will be some muscle activation it should be as mild as possible using the minimum energy to produce the technique yet enough to ensure that you travel through the correct path while maintain correct structure. While doing this your focus should be on relaxation, as it is easy to contract unnecessary muscles which do not actually contribute to the technique. I hope this helps. Enjoy the journey!

Any advice you can give to a practitioner of Sun Tai Chi, wanting to learn Wing Chun? I do Xing Ye, as well as some BaGua.

Hi Colby, thanks for your message. Wing Chun will likely seem quite different to the other styles you've studied and on the surface it can be quite an adjustment. However, at a functional level, I've found that the martial arts generally agree far more than than they differ. What works, works! Find a school that fits with who you are and what you want to develop, dig your heels in and enjoy the journey. Best regards, Neil

How often do you recommend practicing this form ? Weekly? Daily ?
@CentralWingChun
@CentralWingChun Год назад
Please excuse my much delayed response. Id like to thank you for watching and for your question. Now, although it may seem like I'm avoiding the question, you should train as often as you can. However, I don't think It's a good idea to leave training sessions more than a week apart. Even this is pushing it if you really want to build on the precious session. The forms set mechanical and energetic standards for the individual while also requiring focus on present events. Once the standards are set, they must be further reinforced both in and out of the form so they become natural. One must make training a habit, not a task. Thanks again

I know it's completely different,but the techniques remind me of Sanchin and Tensho forms I used to practice as part of Goju Ryu a lifetime ago.

Hi Riaan, thank you for your comment. I'd agree that many arts have a lot in common. I guess this is only natural as the techniques belong to the humans, not the arts. All best

Your arm form position, is spot on, and yes the form is meant to be preformed slow, but not meant to exaggerate slow movement to the pace of a snail, it can be sped up just a tad. There is a difference between moving slow and hardly moving at all. You need fluid slow, not frozen contorted slow.

There are actually many lineages that perform Siu Lim Tao even slower than what is shown here.

There are two parts to a breath. there are also two parts to a motion. the intake of breath and it released. the release and the retraction. Match them up, Sir. Our Forms like our Kungfu have an infinite ability to better itself. It should always be at its best but, i'tll never be at its best.
