So I’ve received quite a few comments about Henry’s... area. So I shall link the Wikipedia article piece on codpieces AND a portrait of Henry wearing one. Don’t say you weren’t warned 😜 Article on codpieces: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codpiece Portrait of Henry VIII: www.wikiart.org/en/hans-holbein-the-younger/henry-viii
Or before he got bored of her. Catherine of Aragon never did anything but he got bored of her anyway :( Not to say the others did anything either, but she’s the best example because she was the first wife, her song she makes it clear she was faithful and obedient, and Henry got with Anne Boleyn, presumably because she was younger.
@@DeathnoteBB She didn't give him a son. He felt and thought he NEEDED a son. CoA was past child bearing years. He didn't get bored of her, he needed that boy. HE thought that cause he didn't think a woman could rule. Boy was that theory blown out of the waters.
@@ButtonsCasey that was the mindset of the time and Henry and Catherine's relationship was great for the time it's just because at the time the monarchy needs a boy also the last English queen didn't end well
@@ButtonsCasey he DID need a boy. At the time, the chance of all other powers around them invading once they saw a woman on the throne was HUGE. If a KING showed weakness the chance of war with rivals was big, if a QUEEN did it? Hell no that would've been horrible for England
Poor Katherine Howard, you could see very well that she was upset with the people flirting and harassing her. You captured the detail really well and I hope to see more from you.
No i think jane would say he didnt because of much good she saw in him. Although i think she was aware he used her for a son, but chose to see the good in him.
Thomas takes a toll for the dark He ruined her reputation international . She never married . And she wasn’t allowed to go back to her homeland where she grew up and where her whole family was . She also saw a kid (Howard) getting executed. Than died of cancer . She had money . Parties . That’s it . Her life wasn’t the worse but far from the best . Out of all his wives she was the luckiest doesn’t mean she had it good .
I did some research. She was born in 1524. She got married July 28th 1540, at 16/17, lost her title as queen in November of 1541, and died February 13th in 1542, only 19. I’m guessing she was married at 17, it just seems more likely to me. (Sorry if this seems like I’m showing off or something, I’m just really interested in this type of thing.)
@@f00lishari79 Please note that we don't know when exactly she was born, we just know she was 17-19 when she married. Nobody KNOWS how old she really was when she married/died
it's because it's the same tune. it's called "green sleeves" and henry composed it. it's thought that he composed it for anne boleyn, but it's not certain.
Fun facts! Catherine Parr’s only child was Mary Seymour, the daughter she had with Thomas. Sadly, she died before Mary even turned 1. Part actually only lived a year and 8 months longer than Henry and was named after Catherine of Aragon as her mother was a lady-in-waiting for Aragon and Aragon was Catherine’s godmother. Parr was born during Aragon and Henry’s marriage. Howard’s life was also shorter than Aragon and Henry’s marriage by 8 years. Also had Seymour not died from child birth, the rhyme would’ve ended as Divorced, Beheaded, Survived as she gave Henry what he wanted, a woman who would rule quietly and a son as an heir. This would’ve affected Elizabeth’s reign as she would’ve learnt woman rights from Parr. Mary also was a friend of Parr’s and only 4 years younger so Parr becoming her stepmother was awkward. Parr also actually died of child birth while giving birth to a Seymour child. Henry actually loved Catherine and left her the Queen’s jewels however she declined them by Edward and his wife, Catherine’s last-in-waiting. He said he was blessed to finally have a faithful wife and Anna of Cleves, the only other wife alive at this time disliked her because she didn’t believe Catherine was pretty enough to replace her. Jane was the only queen to not have a royal wedding yet the only queen to get a royal funeral, she was only married to Henry for a year (1536-1537) and was buried in Windsor and Henry actually requested to be buried next to her and was buried there. Henry mourned Jane’s death for two years and the only reason he moved on was because he realised he needed a Queen to rule with him. She had his only son, Edward who sadly died at the age of 15 from Tubercolosis. She was originally working for Catherine of Aragon but then came to be a maid of Anne Boleyn after Aragon finally granted annulment, Anne blames her miscarriage on Jane who was attracting Henry’s attention. Anne despised Jane, but she still stayed as a maid to Anne. Anne not having the son Henry so dearly wanted, Jane took the chance to catch Henry’s attention and when Henry sent her gold, she declined and stating that “she had no greater riches in the world than her honour, which she would not injure for a thousand deaths.” The day after Anne’s execution (May 20, 1536), they got engaged. I find it funny how Catherine Parr is considered the one who "survived," when she ended up dying only a year after Henry at the ripe old age of 36. The real survivor is Anne of Cleves, who outlived Henry, all five of his other wives, and Edward, and only being outlived by Mary by a year.
He is a true antihero, let me explain. He did a lot of good and he did a lot of horrible things. He managed to give England a health system and parks but he was also a terrible husband and father.
YES OMG ITS SO HARD TO FIND OTHER HORRIBLE HISTORIES FANS!!! I swear to God that is the show I have watched most in my life I could never get bored of it no matter how many times I watch every episode 🤣 This song is also so special to me since the teacher played it at school and my whole class leaned the lyrics and I miss my old class, you're so talented new sub!!!
Henry: I had to ask her for a divorce. Off with a chop went dear Anne. Then poor Jane went and dropped dead. I must have another divorce. The axe sent young Kath to her grave. She survived like how unfair Me: NOOOOO
A bit of a history lesson!!! On Jane Seymour and Anne of Cleves! The reason Jane was so favored and the reason Anne Bolyn lost her child (which was a boy!!!) was because Henry was aLREADY cheating on Anne with Jane (who was a distant cousin!) Jane ended up having a son and was married to Henry the day Anne Bolyn was beheaded. She was historically reported to have said on her deathbed that she was "going to leave before he has a chance to be bored of me" With Anne of Cleaves, he dressed up as a peaseant to see if she would try and go for him, when she called him hideous and rejected him, (not knowing it was the king!) he got sO offended he divorced her later on. But she became his sister by name and he had her taken care of for the rest of his life. She rode along side Elizabeth at his funeral parade. She was the only wife to outlive Henry and all the other wives and have a fufilling life.
Fun fact 4 everyone: Anne of Cleves was the true survivor. Catherine Parr only surpassed Henry by a couple of months then died while Anne lived longer than henry and Catherine.
THANK YOU!! For weeks after SIX came out and I kept seeing the "divirced...beheaded...died" mantra everywhere I thought people had finally discovered this horrible histories song. I'm glad I'm not the only person who's had this experience haha
I honestly think that Katherine Howard had it the worst, not only did she get beheaded, but when she did, unlike Anne Boleyn, the king didn't even bother to get her the sharpest axe and a good swords man, so she had a more painful death then her cousin
Thanks! I’m okay I guess. It just takes practise :) I’d love to go to an art college tbh but that costs money and more importantly time :/ (I work full time)
It's so AWESOME to have Henry having a moment to shine after getting dissed all night! I can just imagine him busting in after they block him from getting in and the show's over and deciding, "To hell with it! I'm gonna tell MY side of the story!"
