Samuel Coleridge-Taylor (1875-1912) was a black British composer. Known best in his lifetime for his cantata trilogy Hiawatha, based on Longfellow's poem, Coleridge-Taylor also wrote many beautiful art songs. This particular set was dedicated to his wife, Jessie Walmisley, whom he met at the Royal College of Music during their student years.
The poetry is by Christina Rossetti (1830-1994).
