Well this week's video is quite the mixed bag of failed videos and experiments that just couldn't be stand alone videos but together i think makes for some fun and a few good ideas to share

Today at a wood carving show in central Wisconsin, as I was walking through the exhibits, I was able to meet you Doug Linker. Thank you for taking the time to shake my hand, and to look at my brother -in -law and sister’s carvings. You are a real gentleman. I hope you enjoy your stay in Wisconsin.

Ahh Doug .. I love hearing seeing the out of doors . All I hear is adult neighbors arguing with their spouses\significant other ,kids riding around and around and around on their loud little mopeds . Dogs barking none stop .. can’t breathe burning of all the garbage..... I love the pumpkins ! I’d buy the heart necklace .. and the nonstop 🎃 pumpkin is very cool.. and I love the acorn but would prefer it without the face very cool. A pine cone would rock ! ( no face please!) lol ...You could plug in the camera just to hear the crickets and hear that storm ..I could listen to that for hours that’s .. That would be awesome ..beautiful ...music to my ears !

Doug, you turned a week's worth of "failures" into a great success! If only we all had that ability. Love the acorn face and pumpkin man. There was a horror flick made back in the late 1980s I think, called Pumpkinhead. That's what I thought of when you first said you'd made a pumpkin man. Glad your little guy isn't scary!

I gave up RU-vid for a week and my wife gave up Facebook for the same. We got so much done around the house this week it was great. Now that the week is up I found there was only two videos that I had missed that were worth watching. This was one of them. Time is one of the most important things we have. I am looking to do better with the time I have and your videos are still going to be a part of it. It is a pleasure to watch honest, simple fun and in a positive light.

Doug you are so talented, tell you something that you don't already know. Ok I m a machinist by trade, I remodeled our home of 43 years, at least 3 times. We built a mt get away, just me and her. I've built 7 trailers, woodspliter, a big shed, I do all my own car care. I've done everything I've wanted to keep from paying someone else to do it. My health took a downturn in 01, so I'm not able to do much. We sold the mt home in 06 and bought a larger very nice home in 07 so my wife will never have to worry about problems. Now I mostly watch some of you guys on YTube cause I hate cable tv. When you get to be 77 or older, I hope you will still be able to carve, I don't have that talent but l enjoy watching you carve, and Shawn building and Joe camping and enjoying his new home. This fills my day and I'm happy do little stuff around home. Be good stay safe.

Doug, One option for a better lathe would be a used Shopsmith. I picked one up for a few hundred, and it seems to be a very good lathe. It also gives you other machine options without taking up a lot of space.

Your enthusiasm for fun projects inspire me to come up with ones on my own and I'm sure many others feel the same way! Never a dull moment or video from you, sooo keep up the great work even though you think your 'current' project is a waste of time...maybe for you, but certainly not for others!!! Man, Doug... I appreciate videos like this! It seems we're a lot alike. I stress over videos, trying to hit one per week, and I overthink them and make the whole process harder on myself. I used to make videos once a month or I'd let three months pass. LOL! Not ideal, but now that I've got Patreon supporters, I feel the pressure. I've actually got a few videos' worth of footage that I shot and haven't done anything with. Seeing how you put all this together and were open about your thought process, is - to me - a really neat thing. It's something I may do at some point. THANK YOU!

Hi Doug, as you know we really enjoy all of your videos. Here is an idea you might like to try,.-- Way back when I was a kid my father used to slice walnuts into about the thickness of the ones you show for the little owls. He sanded them smooth, and then he dipped them in varnish and hung them to dry. Then he took long leather shoe strings and wove two of them through each of those walnut slices and made women's belts out of them.

I like your video of your videos. A little bit of everything. After watching most if your carving videos, I found myself carving butter in the mornings. It would end up on my toast. Then I found that I could carve cheese. That would end up on my tomato sandwiches. Now I've bought some basswood and two carving knives. Who knows what will happen next. I might be cooking coffee on a open fire in the woods and carving wood. Thanks for your carving videos. Very inspiring to me.

I don't like carving, I have no interest in carving wood or any type of carving. Have nothing against it and nothing for it. But there is something about Doug. It's relaxing, the way he speaks, his looks, the tone of his voice, his videos etc. It simply is RELAXING. I keep watching these type of videos just because he does them. No over the top expensive gear, expansive clothes, no fancy stuff. He's just keeping it simple and clear. Can't wait for another camping videos, those are my favorite, but I will still watch those carving videos :)) I even liked this video..... about the videos he didn't make.

Hey Doug, try laying some thin copper or aluminum over the bottom magnet then swing the pumpkin over it. The moving field should create little circular currents in the metal and cause it to magically brake without contact (for a different effect). You could even make the bottom magnet interchangeable with a one of these non-ferrous metals.

Doug I am undoubtedly your biggest fan, you are somewhat of a celebrity to me. I’m a huge fan of what you do and you have inspired me to pick up whittling. I see that you have carved “delmer” by mike Shipley and I have wanted to carve him for so long now but am entirely terrified of the project. I have the roughout cut out via band saw but I haven’t started carving because it terrifies me, I would literally do anything for you to show a video of you carving the delmer... sincerely your most desperate biggest fan...

I liked this video Doug, it was like A Week in the Life of a Wood Carver's Mind. I think they have a movie about that or something similar LOL Anyway, thanks for the magnet idea. I'm going to make a life size ball of yarn and affix it to my cat's scratching tree. It will bob around and hopefully keep them entertained for hours. As it is, when I try to do anything on my laptop they think that is their invitation to come sit on my keyboard. I swear as soon as I remember exactly who told me "Get a few cats, that way they play with each other and you will have at least one cuddler in the bunch." they are getting a high five to the face or at least a kick in the shin or cat sitting duty for life. Thanks again for the idea and your videos, I watch them all and most times 3-4 times. Keep 'em coming!

Hey, Doug. Great wood carving ideas and thumbs up how you created them. Each one has it´s own beauty. Well done. I would have loved to watch every single video you might have done individually. Especially the carving of the little pumpkin man during a thunderstorm...would have been very relaxing to watch, listening to the sounds of nature ;) The walnut pendant and the earrings filled with resin are stunning.
