This was my second carving and I broke off his nose. hehe It is hard to see the angel of your blade making those nose cuts. I think I got confused and angled my knife the wrong way because now he has a hole in it's place. I'm going to set this one aside and maybe turn him into a reaper once I get more practice. Still had fun playing with a new knife I bought so it's all good. Man, I think I'm hooked already! l can't wait til later tonight when I have more time to try again. Thanks so much for sharing your carving skills with us! Hope all is well with you and your family!

Hi Doug I am a beginner and have carved several of your carvings and I am having a blast and they turned out great. So I thought I would try the ole time Santa. It was very hard to follow the cuts around the head and face. I know you are doing these very fast however, if after you make proportion cuts if you would just for a second hold them up for the camera that would really make a big difference. for me and I think for others too. There is a new blade out from helvie called The Beast! It's a Dwayne Gosnell blade that you can put in any type of handle. It's two and a quarter inches long.

Hey doug. I carved my first Santa today. I used a leatherman which worked much better than the michaels carving knife. It came out okay. Messed up a little in the eyes/nose and hat area. Dull michaels knife? Would a v knife help around that nose, hat eye area ?? Was wondering where to start looking for good carving knives online or on amazon? It’s a good stress relief for sure. Appreciate you posting this. Oh, do you soak the wood before carving the block or after it’s done. Basswood seemed a bit harder than I expected. Again, maybe it was the basic carving knife from michaels that was the problem. Thx for all you do doug. :)

Hi Doug . It's Doug. I have a great neighbour family that has had some very bad luck last few yrs . I would like to do a Santa family. For them for Christmas. Santa himself is no issue , followed numerous of your videos . Mrs Claus is a little different as the neighbour wears her hair up 90% of the time. I'd like to mimic this as much as possible . A video would be wonderful. But also realize your a busy man . Love the videos . Take Care.
