Six gilled sharks are considered ancient. They’ve survived a few extinction events and are still alive today.

thanks Corbfisher! good to know on the near-base footage. This was mid-canal, but other side. Right near the entrance to Pleasant Harbor. (As a side note "Pleasant Harbor" sounds like a place in a shark attack movie).

Last season your Rig your jig... for Kings! video inspired me to try the same spot a couple days later. Released a 20lb unmarked and retained a 8lb king. The blood trail from the 8lb in the livewell attracted in a roughly 7 foot sixgill to nose the livewell outlet at the back of the boat. We jigging in 30 feet of water at the time it showed up.

Hi Brad! My guess would be given the narrowness of the canal it probably couldn't support too big of population. That said, most the canal is 300+ deep, so who knows?!

I'm a commercial diver but I have friends that are sport divers that have dived off of Hornby Island, BC, where sixgills can be found. I must take them up on their offer to take me there. I don't do much sport diving and I think that would be cool. The only sharks I've ever seen are dogfish. I did have one headbutt me in the ass once though.

@PeelingLine

@@WAFishQuest They are usually pretty sluggish but very strong. They will take runs but they are short bursts. Not like a soupfin that will quickly swim 100 yards. Out there I've only hooked soupfin, dogfish and 7gill. But with that tuna processing plant I wouldn't be surprised if it was a blue.
@obryan240
@obryan240 Месяц назад
Yes they will eat dogfish. Their is a group of guys illegally targeting ghem for internet fame here in Tacoma. They sometimes use dogfish cut into chunks for bait. The plan if a game warden confronts them is to say they are targeting skate.
