Everyone, including Siya, seems to have forgotten that Siya himself said in his book that once he goes overseas he won’t be captain of the Springboks and that he himself believes the captain of the Springboks should be locally based.
You must be some kind of special stupid! Or maybe you didn’t even watch the video. Siya said, he knew that he would be demoted from Captain if he moved abroad. How is it that you say he has forgotten bla bla bla bullshit
Rassie seems to like a 'statesman-like' character. Remember Siya growing into that role? Listening to Damian lately, he is already there; well-spoken, calm, but also a fierce competitor
I love Siya but maybe its to ensure individual players don't become bigger than the team. Ego-proofing the team. Making sure the team is never reliant on any stars or star captains to perform at the highest level.
France did that and they're struggling without DuPont. Ireland are lucky their over-hyping of Sexton didn't negatively hamper them when he left. In SA, I think it's a case of leave your egos outside. Don't bring it into the team.
15 Damian Willeme (C) I can see it. It's more a case that you probably want the captain closer to the action than anything else that works against him but probably one of the first names on the team sheet ATM and for the foreseeable which is key.
A Captain should always be a forward, with the possibility of a scrum half, who is in and around the pack. A vice captain can be appointed in the back line. It’s simple, the game is won or lost up front. Look at all world cup winning sides captains through its history.
My criteria for the new Captain is that he has to be a guaranteed starter, someone below 26, someone who is already in the current setup ie steeped in the culture already and someone who can inspire the team on the field ie put 7/10 performaces nearly every game.
Like your choices mfe2. Let us trust Rassie with SIya now as we trusted him when appointing Siya. Me think maybe too soon to def pin down a cappy for the world cup just yet. Agree with Eben, Am for mid term. However with injuries and load management etc, get young blood to captain. Evan a good choice after some stern talking to (temper/anger management etc). His passion can be an inspiration to team mates.
I personally think Rassie should give Damien Willemse a shot at captaining. And see how it goes, I will say that most of our current Springboks forwards are older. So we need to see the new blood, get a feel for their game play and their attitude and take it from there. But on this list, there is really only one choice right now. Willemse. Thanks @Jordan Buhrs for this
I like Damian as a choice for Springbok captain. Possibly a little hot headed/over passionate at times but with all that experience and his talent, not to mention the mentorship and guidance of Willie le Roux. Ya, I really like the idea. His position is the only real draw back.
For me siya should have stepped down after the second world cup win and given an opportunity to someone else. He missed an opportunity to show leadership and humility
@@infoBot7VidhrmI'm Akrikaans but I've never had to search far to find an Afrikaans person that says something utterly embarrassing. I bet irl your family and other people tolerate you, but nobody truly wants to be around you.
Indeed, who are we? Because of Siya’s humility he was always open to the inputs from other senior players and leaders in the team. And that is REAL leadership, becoming stronger together. He understood the assignment. Haters will remain haters no matter what
Boet Siya was an outstanding captain. Just how much have you actually missed. He was well respected and a true leader on field and the way he interacted with the reffs was remarkable.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.... All this crap over THIS nonsense?... REALLY?...EVERYONE knows Kolisi IS and ALWAYS WAS a TOKEN CAPTAIN... there's not ONE instance when he made a good decision AS CAPTAIN, always asking OTHER players about what to do... he's NEVER been one of the MOST influential players on the field either... Give this carp a rest now mense and let's just get on with Showing the World AND World Rugby that no matter HOW they try to knock our Boks back, THE BOKS WILL ALWAYS PERSEVERE... 👍👍🤏🤏🤏🤏🤏
