I played a lot of 1v1 in ROC. I was just barely good enough to occasionally hit pro gamers on the ladder. I played vs madfrog once. Upon entering the game, i said something like, "whoa, it's you! I've watched a ton of your replays, you're so good!", to which he replied, "nah i sux" then proceeded to beat me worse than i'd ever been beaten.

Did you and madfrog have a good time at the reforged event? I'd like to imagine it had a happy ending :D

When I moved to Taiwan, I got a scooter. A few months later, there were some engine troubles. I took it to the shop to get it fixed. I was just starting to learn Chinese, and remembered the Chinese word for "engine" sounded similar to English. So I said "it seems my 'yinjing' has a problem." Well, it turns out, the word for engine is "yinqing" and I actually said my p*nis has a problem.

Undead was a very strong race back then & you were the Orc player that showed that the best Undead players could be beaten with Orc around this time. Arguably MadfroG was the best of them. Very few could defeat him around that time. Your insights about that time in your life & your interactions were terrific to hear about. Great video. :)

This may be wrong but in my memory madfrog invented surrounds. Or at least seeing him do it with four crypt fiends back then for the first time blew my mind at the time.

Ahh yes, Battle Realms. That was a fun game, and wanted Grubby to play it for his commentary on the mechanics (buildings actually "training" the villagers, and then combinations from army units). Something to look up as I do indie work.

MadFrog did actually stream a few years back (his last stream was 3 years ago). He felt disappointed with his performance at the event hosted by Blizzard and didn't want to be remembered for that. I watched his stream a couple of times, and it was chill, but he never seemed to get his groove back.

Even then you can see how good and smart moves Madfrog was doing. He even went naga 2nd which I didnt realize people got back then.

Is that the one, where g3 is this long batrider hit and run style and game 5 is the 1 wyvern trick him into fiends, then raider? I remember there was one match like that.

OMG MadFrog was prison guard? ToD was prison guard too. I read a story a long time ago, how ToD went to Korea or something and return after year, but he was looking terrible, all the time he was in Korea he was only playing and not going outside etc, there were pressure to play and win etc.When his parents saw him at the airport, thought he looks sick. He stopped playing professionally for a while and become a prison guard. Or am I mixing the stories? Maybe Mad Frog was the guy from the story and not ToD?. The story was about the professional players and the price that they have to pay.

Damn I was really starting to wonder how you'd end up winning after he caught all your fliers coming back and then he just walked his DK into your army, that's too bad. He prolly didn't even mean to attack your base, he just gave an attack command while returning as he picked off your bats but because of the pathing he ended up inside your base.
