Rocked my OG Hawktober sweatshirt to class today. Very excited for the rest of Skatember.

I only had a Wii so this was my only way to play the skate games as a kid and have lots of good memories with it. Also the controls for the DS version remind me of Kid Icarus Uprising, which people also complained about hurting their hands so you are not alone.

I can't believe how many years it's been, I still remember finding your channel during the first Hawktober, dark times but reliving those games was a bit of light every day.

This is my favorite channel on RU-vid. All the Hawktobers now skatember… speechless. I had all the skate and hawk games. All the variations now as well. This game on the wii was basically just a dusk collector lol

Not gonna lie I loved playing the IOS version on my iPod touch during private studies at high school 😂 killed heaps of time and worked much better than the DS flick system 🙌

16:08 as a DS baby, it's so nice to hear somebody that didn't grow up with the console talk about this. So many of the console's games use this one-handed control scheme and it's pretty uncomfortable. You never really see reviewers talk about it though cuz I don't think they play a lot of the games that use that control scheme, since most of them are more casual titles. Don't have anything to add cuz I pretty much agree with everything you said here, it's just nice to see somebody else talk about this. One of those things I'm very aware of that no one ever seems to mention.

Great video! Also 15:53, for skate it DS you do have the ability to change the orientation of the skateboard in the touchscreen! (left right or just upright). It's sad how i know this lol

Comment froma common watcher but rare commenter here. My no doubt controversial opinion is that the Skate franchise got better as it went. So yes, I really do think that Skate It was better than the original Skate, however I also believe that Skate 2 would go on to be better than Skate It, and Skate 3 went on to be better than Skate 2. But really, to each their own, and I absolutely respect your (and any one elses) opinions on the matter. Also, in relation to the iOS version, all I remember about that version is that it would constantly crash and never saved my progress, so I'd say that you most likely played the superior portable version based on that alone. Finally, I love the concept of Hawktober (or Skatember) that you have. So many channels tend to go for Halloween things at this time of year, so it is refreshing to see a different focus!

Late September into October is my favourite time of year, and part of that is because it's Hawktober!! So stoked to see these vids

Played this on DS. Pretty clunky and had glitches that let you go through walls with properly timed 180s, but I really enjoyed it

So wild that a console primarily driven by the use of motion controls features so many games that WEREN'T optimised for it. Feels like a missed opportunity for Skate It that a more intuitive control scheme wasn't given to the balance board, I'm genuinely stunned. 😮 WAIT! EXIENT MADE THE DS VERSION? THEY'RE THE DEVS OF THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY VERSION OF LEMMINGS!

Never played Skate It but I was always surprised that the whole Skate 2 plot point of "Oh the city is totally different cause an Earthquake fucked everything up and they pulled the whole city down and rebuilt it" was ACTUALLY a legit thing as seen in the Wii game 😅 No idea if it was all planned from the start or not though (like Black Box knew they wanted to alter the Map dramatically so had the devs of Skate It make it a plot point that the city was destroyed or if they just went with it when they saw the "Spin-Offs" plot... Either way it's a really cool/smart idea)

Can't wait for skate 2 it's really fun I 100 percent the whole thing

This game is just more proof that motion controls + skateboarding games don’t go well together. The gimmick was worth a try for the devs, but at the end of the day, it still is just a novelty to players. That is to be expected when porting games to Nintendo. The best thing about this game though is the concept. Skateboarding on a ruined earthquaked city? Sign me in! At the very least, this serves as a nice lore connection between the 2 main games.

I loved the absolute shit out of this game when I was a kid! Of course I spent a lot of my time just doing bails on purpose but I had a lot of fun with it.

you can change the board oreintation on the ds version of skate it to make it straight up, and it plays so much better. your hands will be a bit happier 👍

Don't worry about the DS wrist thing. Great DS games don't have you do flicking that hard or put so much pressure on your wrist. Besides, you think playing that is bad on your left hand? Try playing Kid Icarus on 3DS! That game advertised a special stand for it since it HEAVILY RELIES on the touch pad!

I do think since the nun chuck has an analog stick that the remote should’ve been balance and the nun chuck be used to flick tricks because of the analog stick

You can change the skateboard to straight on the DS version it makes it so much easier

Have indie skateboarding games been tackled with Hawktober? I think itd be interesting to see how indie devs tackle skateboarding games like Olli olli which is my favorite or Skatebirb which looks cute.

I played Skate It on iOS before I quit buying apple products. It has a handful more songs and the graphics are a bit better, but the levels are the same. It was decent in my opinion, but definitely not comparable to the Xbox 360 and PS3 series of Skate games.

It was criminal that they didnt include wii classic controller support for the game. I want to experience the levels but have no interest in doing it with motion controls

The personality does look lacking for sure. Rea world versus more creative approach due to the limits on the Wii. Yeah not into awkward Wii controls (as someone into motion and yeah Wii Fit was better besides it also being awkward but better by sounds of it). Aiming is fair and the best use motion or grabbing and throwing but other games overdo it, cough same in VR. The Nunchuck and Balance Board I would have hoped knowing the awkwardness the Devs went with them smarter design on the options. Seems a fair DS version but yeah there is a reason subtle or drawing or other use cases were better than movement. On DS/3DS. I agree with the angle, the hold the system is something but even Metroid Prime Hunters aiming and other gestures can be awkward or Zelda DS games. You don't use a mouse or PDA stylus the same as a DS stylus but they did anyway. Logic there. PSP would have been good of a port/unique take if it did I doubt it, oh well.

I grew up skateboarding and had a Wii and no 360 or ps3. I obviously picked this up. Wow, it was so bad. But I wont lie that I played the shiz out of it. Same with SSX Blur. God, motion controls on games like these is not cool
