I know right? I can't get enough of it, I was always a cynical asshole but I thought everything skateboarding was great, just because it was skate related but once I started to progress, I definitely started hating shit lol like girl boards, I hate the shape, the tapered nose and tail, all pointy and shit. The logo, the name, I just can't skate their shit lol
I love old school Toy Machine boards, moreso than what they currently sell. If they did some reissues of thier vintage graphics, shapes, etc I think it would be so sick. A few old 90s Templeton graphics come to mind (before my time but they're really cool looking)
Plan b will forever be the “jock” of skate companies to me. Remember when Prod still rode for them and they had that mini doc series on ride channel? It seemed like their whole focus was to just stack a super team instead of one that feels organic.
@@DOODOOBUTT_ those will always be the wackest companies. I'd much rather support a brand where all the riders are chosen/fit in organically rather than try to build some stacked talent super team
Creature, zero, krooked and Baker will always be solid because they figure it out how to have a very recognizable style that's always unique. Plan B reminds me of NASCAR, especially when people put stickers on them it looks corporate. A few of the more mainstream brands including primitive are guilty of looking very corporate and overly accessible. Passport and welcome are probably the best Indie looking brands. Almost and girl haven't changed much over time. Rip and dip can go to hell, they basically don't really support any individual skaters and are a bad copy of the other "indie" brands. Oh yeah, I like WKND. Although that brand relies on nostalgic trends a good bit with some boards, the art style is very minimalist and appealing.
This sort of proves why brands like Toy machine, krooked, alien, baker etc all have constantly good graphics because the people behind it have an actual artistic vision. And brands like Plan B, Thank you, etc don’t have anything deeper than ‘putting the logo on stuff’
for the most part Toy has good graphics but the sect pee, the anti scooter (we all no scooters suck, no need to put that on a deck) , the stabbing blood and guts are tiresome. many of the one offs and the sock puppet series are cool.
25:38 - The Zero "27 Club" - those are all artists that killed themselves / died at the age of 27. But yeah, assuming they chose an artist they resonated with or enjoy the chosen artist's music.
i was about to comment this but like do we not think that its a bit offensive to make boards of deceased people with like deathly/horrific kinda imagery plastered on it? im a big fan of zero but like surely thats kinda fucked
@@oscarh6947 i'm a fan of the graphic style but the context is in bad taste. making them look like zombies when they passed at a young age... yikes. not a good look.
I didn't know passport was an Aussie brand, but I love their clothing. Finally a skate company that makes quality clothing at a decent price. Personally, I think they're aestehtic is better than Palaces overpriced hype shit. Definitely getting some passport gear soon
I’d like to hear your opinion on some of the newer frog graphics cause I think they definitely dropped some of the low effort quirk stuff and have some really nice artsy stuff
Creature is my favorite brand they have the best feeling boards i've skated with gnarly graphics at a good price point. Their team is intimidating skills wise and they are like a family that parties and thrashes the expectations every skatepart they feature is outa this world. They skate the biggest rails and do the craziest vert spots. Gravette is my favorite rider he's so chill till he can't stick his trick then he gets unhinged but i love every second of it.
Hot take - the striped Chris Cole board is kinda fire and a Zero classic! They had it in gold too. Personally I'd go for the skull on yellow background
I remember when that zero cole board with the stripes on it came out the first time, must’ve been around new blood coming out or going into filming for that zero promo/ride the sky. I thought it was peak Chris cole graphic, I wanted to skate it so badly hahaha
For me Baker stands the test of time as one of the all time classic skate brands. They've got such a unique design language and theyve never strayed to far away from that style. Baker figured out a look and generally stick to it, which happens to give them the room to experiment each year with some fun and wild graphic designs since even if they F up with a really horrible graphic series or two, they always got the foundational look to fall back on. Its amazing how Baker makes the block script lettering work so well for them after all these years, im sure some folks find it quite stale and boring but when it comes to brand recognition Bakers block lettering is as iconic of a logo as they come...I mean, Baker is easily one of the most iconic and recognizable brands in skateboarding. You can spot a Red, black, and white Baker block letter board from across a field and easily recognize it for being exactly what it it.
I love my old element graphic deck but a lot of the new ones are really missing the mark. The OG’s and the Bam ones looked great. Ever since Bams downfall they fell off big time
1.The Terminator Blind graphic for Henry Sanchez 1992 (Marc McKee) 2. Girl x Spitfire joker paint face logo Mike Mo 3.101 Charles Manson Peanuts Gang graphic Adam McNatt 1992 (Sean Cliver) 4. 101 Gino Ianucci "Gravediggas" 5. 101 Jason Lee/Natas Devil Graphic. 6. Anti Hero "Eat Shit and Die" Series. Graphics are shit these days compared to what went down from 1990 to 1994.
The collabs are so weird. It's like we're back in the 80s and you and your bros all got your Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle decks you got from the department store.
I know youve covered all the board brands in various videos by now,. I think you should make a ranking video "best 90s/2000 skate brand graphics nowadays" and rank a bunch of the core skate brands against eachother in a battle to see whose staying most true to there roots when it comes to graphical design, also could do the battle of parent/sister brands Choc vs Girl, Baker vs. deathwish/heroin...birdhouse, Blind vs Almost, enjoi, thank you etc etc you get the idea.
Creature S tier. THis guy is the ultimate get off my lawn guy. OG graphics are the best, mark gonzalez can do no wrong, Nyjah doesnt skate for them anymore so they arent cool, etc.
Polar, FA, Hockey, Quasi, Welcome, Krooked, and Anti-Hero are the best graphics imo... although I'd probably also put Baker and Isle in as honorable mentions
I have a theories deck rn I'm skating w Mason graphic that's sick af. It also has a dope top graphic that I cut out. I like when companies make the effort to put a good top graphic for those who like to do grip jobs.
I didn't like primitive at first but I got a really fresh board with madara on it, it shows purple wood grain and lines like his eyes, I thought that one was worth getting, and I love Naruto anyway. The market for skating + anime art is rly big I think, the lewd decks always sell out every convention I see them at
i think some primitive graphics are completly bad and some are insanely good some of my favorite designs ever. for me primitive can be S tier or like C tier depending on the graphics
Primitive was going places with parodies of old school skateboard graphics. The original team riders and graphic designers of the graphic they were parodying praising them should tell you everything about them. Then they got into the mainstream anime stuff, and it all fell apart. If I wanted a deck with anime in it, I'd get a Hook Ups. Parodies will always beat the real deal by a mile.
I bought a ripndip board last year because it was unsellable at a local shop and was going for 40 bucks CAD. I'll basically buy anything if it's cheap enough, I skate solo anyway. Well... worst 40 dollars I've spent in a long time. It broke in a week from flatground tricks.
I dont like element graphics either but I do remember having a good experience on a bam deck way back in the day, they have some good shapes but thats about it, mystery is the same I dont really like their boards but I did have a really good experience skating a deck a long time ago.
