Grew up skating on Long Island and somehow NEVER met this dude, despite having many of the same friends. Always heard he was a cool guy, so this was awesome to check out. A mutual homie once told me that Hazel was inspired by Watership Down, and at that point I KNEW Dan would be an instant friend if we ever got the chance to hang out. Sending my best to a fellow OG skate rat from Li. That collection is Bonkers!
Pheo’s basement with his dog/artwork/80’s hip hop, ToB, MHT concrete railing & basement level, constantly getting chased by security & cops out of the local spots & empty pools. Dan you brought skaters together & created insane scenes wherever we went. I’m forever grateful that I was part of all that.
I don't know how I've been sleeping on this series, this is awesome! If you've never had Lynn Cooper on the show I would highly recommend getting him involved. Some of my friends and I helped him move when he lived in Aurora, CO back in 2003 or 2004. I couldn't believe how many treasures he had, it was mind blowing! One of my favorite things about skating/hanging with him was the stories he would tell. He talked about how he filmed Rodney Mullen do what was probably his longest freestyle line ever, but that he was just messing around and never wanted to use the footage for any kind of part, so almost no one has ever seen it!
Wow. That’s an epic collection. Seeing that sticker collection was like a trip back down memory lane! The new deal ones, element ones, all those were common stickers when I was skating back then
Personal inscription on a gifted board from the Gonz, that you got while delivering weed to Deluxe...yeah, I'd be getting buried with that board. Great video, nice collection with personal stories. Love it.
i love the fact this big dude can claim he ollied over a trashcan on a board shape like that. Doesn't get more Og then that ! much love TransWorld this is a great series
Old long island skate scene for me included Peter Pan Diner underpass, Hauppauge drainage, Farmingdale Skate Park on Conklin Av, Woody Woodstock indoor skatepark in Huntingto Station. At one point of my buddies tossed me a Chapman. It had a little twist through the deck. Rode fine.
Love the shoutout to Chapman skateboards, I was flow for them as a teen. Really wish I kept many of those boards but I was young and dumb and thought it would last forever. Billy Rohan boards, Danny Gonzalez I wish I had those boards. I got on flow when they were doing “promo” boards and they would have this graphic in the center with check boxes and they’d just sharpie the size or rider. Thank you Chapman and Billy Rohan for making a 13 year old kid so happy and free from a bad home life .
Years ago I worked at Amoeba Music in SF. Flogging Molly was performing a free show and I asked Matt to sign an old H-Street T shirt I still had. He was super cool about it and appreciated the trip down memory lane. I still have the shirt.
That Koston photo with his stickers reminds me of the skit they did for 411VM, “Russel Casting”, looking for a young boarder named Koston, Best of 411 Koston Profiles.
45:53 these stickers are from the era where I skated the most.. man those bring back memories 😂 always loved shortys..my grandpa always called me shorty growing up and it was probably my very first skate shirt ever was a red shortys box logo 😂 wore that thing til it was pink and falling apart
I remember Dan created outlaw skateboards when we were kids and all his friends in Hicksville like Frankie would be there when we would visit from the neighboring town.
Dude that assault vehicle is worth ! I rode the shark . Man I want one of those so bad. I had a black bag Colvin with the naked white chick. I grew up in LI RiverHead we always skated the Brooklyn Banks and Stony Brook and anywhere else that was cool in NY. Man so many skaters came outta LI. This is a great look at some cool skate stuff. Ryan Hickey board. Used to skate with him. Was that one of the zoo boards ?
10:41 never found any boards in the trash but I did once find an older model mosh bmx with alot of random race parts on it..probably my best treasure 😂
i have stevie williams' actual board from 2006 ish. he gave it to me at a demo in london when i was a kid and signed it. wondering if there'd be a market place for this kind of thing?
My first real board in 86' at twelve yrs old Vision Grigley black mask, blue grip, blue 96 Toxic Secrets, black/ white Ventures blue rails and black risers
29:24 I’ve never seen thise krooked glasses before haha those are kinda cool..thats the kind of random shit boards used to come with that I wish I would have kept more of..same with stickers..so many awesome ones lost to random stuff or vehicles long gone 😂
10:21 recently almost bought a modern powell dragon complete but I realized they now make them from birch wood for kids or something it said so I wasn’t sure if it would hold up to me or not, I still prefer a 7.625 deck which is hard to find nowadays but I’ve always loved the powell graphics so I may still pick one up to try 😂 I don’t weigh much cause of medical issues so it probably would hold up to what skating I’m still capable of in my older age 😂
I collect.. im in maine.. i got over 100 decks.. but im originally from Brentwood long Island NY and in 1985 i moved to Cambridge Maine and i sk8ed since 1986 and ever since i been trying to ride 😂.. but i collect boards myself.. im still in maine.. and i got some originals and few reissue decks and some bootleg style decks then other cheap decks like variflex to nash style decks.
I have the Gerber baby food and the scorpions board, unskated. I would happily sell or trade them. Besides eBay, what’s the better site for board collectors to trade/sell?
My parents wouldn’t let me get a Natas skateboard because it was Satan spelled backwards. I argued that it was the riders real name, but they weren’t having it.
