@flap.d.jack247 Arena did it right. Hourglass did everything wrong. Curses should have been kept to lore relevant tall tales and voyages. Idk why people still think HG is the improvement when really it's just the lazy replacement because Rare failed to make functional matchmaking lobbies.

This just makes me wish there was more skeleton cosmetics, mostly in types where it can more accurately reflect what a pirate was before becoming the curse (IE like old faction clothing tarnished into reaper colors, or cosmetics which infer a certain era a pirate was a part of.)
I see these guys more often than not on Xbox I feel like. every single group post I’ve joined has had at least 1 and every time I get into pvp it’s always against them (I am NOT talking the npc’s)
I do kinda wish they would add more cosmetics from the NPC skeletons. Like colored bandages, bandannas, and ropes on the body would look nice. And the main reason that they aren’t is because they would make you look too much like an NPC. But I’m pretty sure any sane person could tell the difference between the different movements of the NPCs verses the players. But either way I’ll keep dreaming.
I just started running with the blindfolded skull, gold shouldered upper body and weighty lower body. I might change back to the rag and bones pants, but so far I’m proud of it. My last two I’d want to try and see how they look is the wheel built upper body with the two tone bones. Other than that, I think I found my look in a very limited selection. I hope they make it so you can put normal clothes over the curse
when if comes to skele curse cosmetics, the only one I REALLY want is the great coat and a pair of pants. if the hat didn't come with a blindfold I'd wear that as well.
@yourfriendlyneighborhoodsc1447 Thankfully with the new cosmetics that got added, there is a new hat without a blindfold! Unfortunately though....it requires a pretty high hourglass level plus new burning blade commendations to get. If you're dedicated, though, what you want is out there.
Hey, you can get pretty good over the course of time, and considering that this curse will be here as long as the game is alive, you'll have a few years yet.
@@arathyn8294 supply glitching is the most common, they do it, and they try to justify it by saying ohh, it just saves us time, but your average player who doesn't know that, they start from a disadvantage
@@balizs1 Oof, yea, I've heard of it., but don't know how it works. To be fair, getting supplies before hourglass is one of the biggest oversights in this mode, and is extremely frustrating....sometimes we'll spend 20 minutes or more getting the ship ready only just to sink, and it's a pretty defeating feeling. Though yea, exploiting isn't really the answer here. Some people just have to learn to take an L on occasion...

Oh absolutely. These will remain obtainable indefinitely, as some of the pieces are associated with the longest grinds in the game, which are designed to take months or a year+ to finish. All of it happens through PvP matchmaking, which is activated by using the hourglass on your quest table. It's basically the "competitive" mode of this game. It's supposed to have skill based matchmaking, but it's not super popular, so fair fights aren't a guarantee, be warned.
Oh God, I think I got it around thirteen hundred wins or so, took me like 5 months to do. But, I'm also not the best, I'm a good model for how an average-ish player can get them. If you're cracked out of your mind and can consistently do big streaks, it will take significantly less.
@bonevalley1210 not necessarily. The first two months or so, I was finishing up a college semester, so I only got on when I could. But in the remainder of the time I was on summer break, so I did grind whenever I wasn't working. Then I took a loooooooong break from the game right when school started back up again lol.
No matey, you get access to skeleton exclusive pieces. Thankfully, they're pretty creative and take advantage of the skeleton model in ways traditional clothes wouldn't.
Gald to see another person who actually cares about the way their skeleton looks, most people at higher levels dont even try to make a unique skelly even with the plethora of cosmetics they could use
I think it's just that a lot of very skilled players find the hourglass rewards secondary. They use it as a tool just to find fights and push their limits, and don't care a whole lot what their level is. My teammate and I, on the other hand, were pretty new to PvP when we started hourglass, and as such we were motivated into trying it by the cosmetics, and actually had no intention for going for gold until we learned that we enjoyed sweaty fights and were capable of holding our own after we hit the 200 mark or so. Most accounts who have been around for a super long time and have one or both gold curses, don't even use them I find haha. I've fought countless people who run the "Lord of the Ashes," or "Noble of the Waters" title, but have plain, sea hobo pirates.
I'm up to around 136 and I really don't know how to get up to gold, I want to of course but it feels like no matter what I do, I just can't improve much on anything. And it doesn't help that I play solo because I don't have anyone to play hourglass with ;-;
Well, I'll start by saying that solo is actually a pretty good place to get levels. The queues are good, and the fights aren't usually super challenging, at least compared to the real "sweaty" crews you can consistently encounter in duo sloops and brigs. Those get pretty competitive, and you will want teammates who are willing to be coordinated and communicative. I actually did like 50-60% of my gold grind solo, if that's encouraging. Once you figure out a method, you can start to go pretty uncontested in solos, as it's a niche skill set that not too many people have down. That being said though, since you're still getting to that point, what specifically do you struggle with?
@arathyn8294 I'd say I struggle with mostly cannon and sniper aim and setting up my ship to properly take down an enemy ship. I've been getting a little bit better at cannon aim just over time, but I can't usually hit consistent shots. I also haven't really been a fan of double-gunning but recently I've tried it and it can kill very easily, but I can't hit sniper shots for the life of me. And taking down an actual ship is pretty difficult too, I get masts down sometimes, but when I do I usually have to bucket a lot and repair, and by the time I'm actually in position again, they've already gotten everything repaired :/
@@TheDarkWendigo199 Cannon aim is probably the most important skill you can have as a solo hourglass player. Obviously positioning too is vital, but without good aim, you can't take advantage of your position, meanwhile bursts of really well-placed cannons can turn a bad position into a good one. Though, there are some ways to make them go hand in hand, as the way you're helming your boat can pretty severely impact your ability to aim. Usually, waves and speed are the calmest when your boat is sailing at 1/2 or 1/3 its sail length. Also avoid going northwest for too long, as these are the choppiest wave heights and will severely bounce your shots. Other than that though, it's just practice and developing "a feel for it." Also, learn specifically where to aim, and when to do it. A good rule of thumb, is that when the enemy is shooting back, aim shots for their cannon to toss around or ideally kill the opposition. When aiming for their center cannon line, you'll occasionally manage to crack the mast, and at this point sling a chain every now and then in between your regular volley to hopefully chop it. Once de-masted, try to smack the wheel a few times, that way they can't adjust their boat's turn to keep an angle on you. Then, when the other guy is off cannons and their boat is in a bad spot, then try to spread shots and open as many holes as possible. Never shoot the same spot more than twice at this point. Just try to cause as many different problems as you can. Naval positioning is a bit of a vague concept, but pretty much always try to stick to orbital engagements (both ships in a circle) when the enemy cooperates. Cannon conditions are fairer, and if you de-mast the enemy, it's a lot easier to make a small adjustment to your turn to encircle them. (Whereas in a parallel engagement, after a de-mast you basically have to crank your ship around to start a decent spiral, giving them plenty of time to throw a plank on that mast). When it comes to enemy ships being able to escape from pressure, I would say learn what your ship can take and try to actually repair as little as possible, when you are able to take shots at least. If you can reasonably get off a volley of cannons without needing to grab a bucket, you're in good shape. Don't be afraid to let the sloop creak and rumble a little. When I solo, I tend to let the ship stay pretty much half-sunk when I'm applying pressure to the opponent, only taking off the heat to repair when the damage is demanding my attention from other priorities. It's a little bit risky, as dying or getting knocked off the boat can mean a sink, but sometimes you just have to be bold to win! Otherwise, you just get fights where both boats run to repair whenever they take a good hit. Double gunning is a good loadout, yea, but in solos I honestly wouldn't sweat it too much. It's pretty necessary in duo sloops at least, since snipes are really really powerful, and are the only way that the second crewmate can apply their own offensive pressure. Then, you need the blunderbuss for ladder defense and knocking people off the boat, because boards are going to happen often. But in solos, you don't really NEED to snipe the other boat, as since there's only one person to worry about over there, cannon attacks are usually all you need to oppress the opponent. You could honestly get away with blunder + sword if you really want a safe, reliable loadout. I hope this at least gives you an idea of how to improve? I hope I can help you understand this admittedly hard game, at least a little.
@daikyn2783 Practice is the number one factor. Even after gold, I'm still sinking, getting humbled, learning, and improving. There are so many people who are just amazing at this game and hone it like a craft.

@@arathyn8294 there's also the "normal" iron tankard characters use in emotes as well as NPCs, a different handguard model for the standard cutlass and a slew of clothing items phantoms use but we can't, and a number of other things.
@cdgonepotatoes4219 Interesting. People like to point out the clothes seen in the pirates life tall tales as well. Though, as someone who has some experience with 3D modeling and animation, I imagine there are challenges and differences between creating a cosmetic for an NPC, and a player. For custizable clothing, you have to curate it for multiple body types and attempt to make it compatible with other items on top of that, and with equipment items, you have to design items for the HUD, and curate it for the existing first person animations. At the end of the day, I think it's something that's way easier said than done.
Im an average player, and honestly i feel for the people grinding for this because honestly when i get the base skin im not going to touch the game or months or even ever. Its really showed me the worst parts of this game in one mode, toxic players, ridiculous requirements for stupid stuff. The whole thing is a drag streaks or not solo is a nightmare, duo a sweat jumps on the boat and its over. Cant stand it anymore
I understand, yea. Definitely don't play hourglass much anymore, I've lost the will to tolerate it. I've been in your shoes too, I started hourglass as someone who was pretty average, and lost a lot of games for sure. I've just always been a competitive person, so I got a ton of satisfaction out of learning how to get some success in the mode. But not everyone thinks that way, so I feel your pain. It definitely takes a unique type of person to want to get gold.
I like it, personally. Simple clothes don't do the model justice. These pieces take advantage of the skeleton in unique ways that clothes wouldn't, like poking through the ribs, putting elements around the spine, replacing a jaw, etc. And I think that speaks to this game's wonky art style in really special and creative ways. The curse definitely could use a lot more customization, but the more they follow this precedent, the better I think honestly.
It Existed a couple months ago, whenever you win a dice roll you have to make your enemy sail out of bounds and when the hourglass explode he must immediately vote on it, and then that’s a double win more money and level points
