I though the abstract work was stunning. A lot of people believe abstract work is a cheap way to create but, it takes real skill to make abstract art that is of a shape, texture, and color scheme that is pleasing to view. You nailed it.

Some people just don’t get the concept of experimentation. This is what makes a real artist. I love those two abstract pages, the colours, composition 💕 All of your sketches are beautiful and I can’t stand people being mean. Thanks for sharing this sketchbook tour, Minnie! Looking forward to the next one 😊 Take care.

I agree, these pages are lovely. The person making those highly judgmental and inaccurate comments was being hurtful and did not represent anyone else's opinion. She (or he) not only showed their lack of education and artistic integrity, but also their lack of social etiquette.
@RadishTheFool
@RadishTheFool 4 года назад
Well said, I totally agree. Also, sketchbooks are so personal. If someone shares it with us, we should either be thankful and supportive, or quietly move on to the next artist if it's not our jam. To judge it at all, let alone so irresponsibly harshly, shows a severe lack of simple human empathy.
@sammirureka
@sammirureka 4 года назад
I have to agree. Minnie it doesn't matter if one person didn't like something you did. Right off the bat you said you loved the way those two pages looked, and I'm biased because so do I. The most important thing is that you enjoyed making them and you enjoyed the outcome. Screw other people's opinions!

I reeaaally hope that person's comment didn't put you off exploring and expressing yourself in a way you might not have done before. It's YOUR art, can't please them all. I love your work and I think that those exploration pieces are fascinating and beautiful. You are epic! :)

This is super weird timing because i literally just ordered a moleskine sketchbook last week, and it arrived a few days ago! I havent even sketched anything up on it yet, i was too scared in case i would mess it up! After seeing yours though, i feel a lot more at ease to just dive into it and start making art without stressing too much. Also that painting of your cat is so cute, i love it

Dear Minnie, I can't tell you how enjoyable it was to see this sketchbook tour and how much it's a privilege to get a glimpse of your lovely growth and experiments! I hope that with time that comment won't stick to these lovely paintings, those experiments are what makes artists grow and evolve and know themselves better:) About schoolism, do you recommend it? do you feel like the platform is worthwhile? If anyone else tried it i'd love to hear! Thanks!

Wow, some people are just too rude and should be be banned from social media until they learn either to be constructive in their criticism or to just shut up. This was my first look at your channel and I love your sketchbook. Seeing other people's failures and experiments as well as their successes is so helpful to those of use who are trying to improve. It also shows that practice really really helps, and that artists whose work we admire have got good at art because they work at it! Anyhow, your gouache is so interesting, and I will definitely be checking out your other vids, I really like all your work, including any happy accidents.

It's so sad how easily a negative comment from one person can completely change your perspective on a piece of work, especially one you were so proud of. I know when I let my mum flip through my sketch book and she points out a painting she doesn't like, I always obsess over that comment even though she didn't intend it in a nasty way. All your work is so inspirational, especially the experimental pieces because it shows how you're challenging yourself to grow as an artist and that is something to be admired, not criticised. Thank you for sharing your art with us! xx

What a lovely sketchbook! Thank you for taking the time to make a tour of it! And try to forget about that comment! Sadly it's always the negative comments that stick the best in our memory. There can be gazillions of positive comments, but we somehow always focus on that one naysayer. Personally I screenshot particularly lovely positive comments and whenever I get a negative reaction, I just look through those screenshots to offset that negative bias. It definitely helps me a lot!
@rachelmasseyart

Love seeing all the experimentation in your sketchbook. Always makes me want to break out my own sketchbook and just play with different things. I agree some people get too caught up in how everything 'needs' to look but I don't think they keep in mind that they're looking at another artist's work from a different perspective so of course they're going to look at it differently to their own. I always think whatever a sketchbook page looks like, it's always engaging when it's full of experimentation and different mediums. It's very freeing to not worry about what the end result will look like.

@illustratornamedkasper
@illustratornamedkasper 2 года назад
I can't tell you if moleskine has one, but Canson offers one called "XL mixed media". It seems as the thickness of paper (300 g/square meter) is best if you want to avoid wobbly pages, for example when using watercolor. I prefer painting in whatever sketchbook I come across, but that's just me =)

It broke my heart hearing the story about comment on your experimental pieces. I haven't seen them before and I really like them, it's so strange to me that people feel entitled to leave hurtful comments on art channels. How will anyone know what they like if they won't try something completely different in their art practice? So tired of people labelling and putting creatives in boxes. I'm hoping to see more experiments in the the future for sure! Lots of love ❤❤❤

I've been following this channel for a few years now, and what I've loved most is how much she emphasizes appreciating the process and striving constantly to grow. Like if she has a criticism (her own) of her work, she doesn't sulk, but brainstorms how she might approach something differently in the future, and really studies/practices to build a new skill or medium. This philosophy of accepting the rough and imperfect is so beautiful and not something often seen in social media. As someone who enjoys making art but doesn't intend to making it my career, I appreciate this approach to art :)

Gorgeous, beautiful work. I'm sad someone's negative comment discouraged you. I suppose you're right that that's just the nature of posting your work publicly. You're going to get a few nay-sayers out there. I just try to respect those people's opinions as their own and remind myself that I'm doing what I do (art) for ME, not for others. I just share it because it's fun. (If I get really snarky about it, I remember what Elizabeth Gilbert said in her book "Big Magic" to those who don't like someone's art... "If you don't like it, go make your own (expletive) art."

F*** what others think! Your work is beautiful and if you've disappointed someone, (one), then you're doing something right in being your authentic self. You don't have to answer to anybody! No one does! Ever! ESPECIALLY, when it comes to art. So whoever that person was, needs to take the pole out of their a** and live a little! Constructive criticism is always good, but not when it's coming from someone else projections based on their own lack of self esteem. Jealousy is a hellova miserable thing to base one's life on! Onwards and upwards, you're great! Never give up!

Have you used the Seabrite watercolor sketchbooks that they sell at Jackson’s Art? I’m always searching for good watercolor sketchbooks. Most recently, I’ve bought Etchr and Handbook, both of which aren’t too bad. My next purchase is going to be a Koval, they are made in Poland and I believe you can choose either Arches, Fabriano, or Saunders 300gsm paper.

I completly get how disheartening it can be to read these comments on your experimental art. I have been posting mainly traditional art on my social media and i wanted to get back into doing more digital art and finding a style that connects with the traditional work. But every style exploration that i post will also have an instant ranking / popularity feedback in form of likes, engagement or lack thereof, which is hard to ignore sometimes. Thank you for sharing your progress nonetheless, your videos are so relaxing to watch and always beautifully edited!

Okay that person who said they are disappointed in that art work. STOP DOING THIS TO YOURSELF. i look at that style and what you did and it is making me get out and recreate some shorelines in similar style. your work inspired me to do that! that person comment should not stop you from doing your art work and def not sharing your art work!

Wow, someone was disappointed in that work? They have an over inflated opinion of themselves. I thought it was beautiful.

Minnie please know that most of us, as your viewers have great respect for you and the art you create. I love that you are brave enough to share your art. As to negative people well they seem to be everywhere, and they are entitled to an opinion, just know that they are in the minority. You bring education and inspiration to me and I am sure to others, and I can't thank you enough for giving me your time, skill and effort. Hello to Ozzie and Tiarrie (sorry if I spelled it wrong) Hope everyone is well and happy.

Looks like the paper has very little (if any) show through? Trying to find a sketchbook I could use for watercolor and ink and wash without having show through. Really like the washi tape idea! Enjoyed all your lovely work.

love it you should keep up with experiments and the exploring. where did you learn the bulk of what you know as an artist? bobby chiu's schoolism?

Is it strange to say I want to live in your sketchbook? It looks creative, cozy, and free! Maybe if I lived among the pages I could gain motivation to draw again...

Such a lovely video. Very creatively inspiring and relaxing to watch. Thank you for sharing! And try to come to peace with (if you haven’t already) and love the paintings you did that were criticized. Those comments were a sad reflection on the author. I thought they were beautiful.

I have been trying to get a bit more in to the ‘flowy’/experimental kind of painting/drawing lately, and really find that spread (the monet-like one) particularly lovely and inspiring 🥰 I saw one of your videos back in january and it inspired me to start sketching again after not having drawn for about 10 years. I decided to challenge myself to fill out an old sketchbook that really only had a few color studies in it. Now it’s completely filled out, and im halfway through a new one. So thank you. 🥰 I really do hope you will look at that spread next time and remember how you inspire others to have fun with painting.

Beautiful artwork in your sketchbook Minnie you should be soooooo proud Little Tierrie hope not spelt wrong? That was a beautiful portrait of your sweet boy... Now that spread that someone critized and I love that spread... .. I am asking the universe to create healing to that spread replace loving energy and think Deborah said she loved it and remember that only ❤️
