I loved this and it meant so much to me! I've been a beginnger for 3 years, because I get discouraged and will go months without picking up the brush. Then I'll watch a video and think I'll give it a go again. Have never developed a style. Too much in my head and not enough play, relaxing, and exploring. I use reference photos or others' tutorials and try to copy. This was so helpul to hear your process, see all the varieties, hear you reassure us to just have fun. Yes, I saw the owl! Thank you so much for being authentic and sharing your thoughts. 🌹🌹🌹
I just loved seeing your book - and it has inspired me. I have so many books like this that I never use. It appears to be freeing and individual which is something I desperately need to be. I paint a lot but always from youtube instruction which is wonderful but never venture to just play. I will now. Thank you.
hi Crystal! You and Jillian are my go-to inspiration now. I just ordered 2 brushes yesterday… and shall finally begin learning watercolour painting. I have resisted for so many years but arghhh the urge is bursting! I love how different your sketchbook is from your finished paintings… one is so freeflow… and the other so absolutely gorgeous. Love it all.
Who is Jillian? I'd like to find her. So far I have these recommendations besides Crystal: Kristy Rice, Ellen Crimi Trent, Jenna Rainey, and Emma Lefebvre, though I have not watched many except for Kristy, as she is pretty addictive. 😂😂😂
@@ShannonE1821 there was one session on Kristy’s channel, where she and Jillian discussed roses and how Jillian does hers differently. It will show you her unique style and how brilliant she is! I think Jillian is a standout amidst a sea of tutors. She also did a collab session with Emma LeF
Have you considered binding your own sketchbook with your favourite papers… where alternate pages may be interlaid with both cotton paper, drawing/mixed media paper. I watched a yt vid yesterday of an artist doing that… after going through several sketchbooks. I am such a klutz with such tasks as “binding”… I am thinking of just holepunching papers so I can file and rearrange them however I need. Like buy those Baohong rollsheets and cut them up. Dreamy me thinks about making a sketchbook and lazy me procrastinates. 😅😂.
I think you need to love the process of making your own sketchbooks, like as you say, if its a chore, then why bother! hahaha. I haven't tried it yet but yes have seen beautiful ones made.
I think the chair with flowers is what one would call a ' still life' painting! Also did you get more books ince your last video going over your books? I haven't seen these two before! I'm curious about the book your neighbor gave you, the one with image of chair and flowers in, how do you like it ? Is there a lot of floral images in there?
