This small round bird with the characteristic crest is endangered in Germany by extensive agriculture (highly threatened status on the German Red List).

Helo Julia, again thank you for such a lovely video. Your rendition of this lapwing is exquisite. I never know how to do iridescence plumage or anything iridescent. Thank for demo'ing it, I'll try that. I havent heard of the lapwing and enjoyed learning about him. What a sad fate they seem to arrive at. Kinda remind me of the similarities dodo with environmental fate. So glad you mentioned and shared the folklore too. Thanks again Julia

Definitely give it a try! :-) The lapwing is not even the most endangered bird here, just one of many. We have to do a lot of work around the world to keep species from disappearing.

I loved learning about the Lapwing! It is also helpful when you mention the paint colors you are using. I am new to watercolor and my palette is still limited. Seeing what you use is interesting and also helpful.

Very helpful video! The addition of colored pencil really kept the iridescence from being overworked! May I ask which FC pencil you use for your initial drawing? Dark enough to see while sketchingbut disappears well in the final painting. Thanks! And someday I will come to Germany and see a lapwing!

Hi Dory, sorry my answer took so long, somehow your comment disappeared. The color of the FC pencil is peacock blue. Hope that helps! :-)

Thanks for your video, ive always liked these birds. What water colour paints do you use for this painting?

I use a mix of Schmincke and Winsor & Newton. I can't recall the exact colors, very likely a Phthalo Green and Pth. Blue plus a bit of Permanent Rose for the shimmering green wings, and a neutral grey or neutral tint for the black parts. Hope that helps!
