I can't believe I've been watching you for ten years and how much you've grown as an artist. Bravo man, keep on keeping on.

Thanks for the shout out:) yeah comics is storytelling but it can be causal, like telling a story to a friend, but using a mix of pictures and words to delivery the essential information across. Say too little and you don’t get the message across. Too much and it’s redundant. Just takes practice to find a nice balance. So ya, some text in the place you lost the watercolours will tell that story nicely for that panel:)

Hi! Love the drawings! I was thinking the whole time that the story of the drawing should be about who found your sketch box. And how it might have changed their day. Maybe they took it and bought a brush and paper and started on a painting that day… I hope so! Happy New Year to you!

I take your point about a comic strip having a story and a main character-but that doesn’t necessarily make it different from a sketch from ‘life’. Any artist has to choose what in their field of vision to draw, what to emphasise, what to change outright, perhaps. When you do that, you are in fact creating a narrative. In a street scene with a lot of people, you might decide to place the teenager (or Teoh!) on a skateboard very centrally, or you might decide to focus on an elderly woman in a sun hat with her dog. Those, effectively, become the main characters and you, the artist, are telling their story. The best still lifes also tell a story: the half-eaten crust of bread on the table suggests someone who left hurriedly, the flower in the vase that is beginning to lose its petals suggests the vase has been there for days, likely unattended. The open book on the table suggests a reader. Any compelling scene tells an implicit story and all stories have characters. Your sketches all tell stories, at least so they look to me. You are telling Singapore stories, for many people far, far away.

Happy New Year, Parker! Lovely stuff. And yes, very much interested in more in-depth on the comic book style urban sketching. Ta!

0:53 That's unusal for Singapore, is it not? In general, people don't nick away stuff that doesn't belong to them. Here's a video of a guy who left his laptop sitting in a Starbucks and after he returned an hour later, the laptop was still there: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rI0kcgHuHbU.html
