hey all, today was my first ever go at sketch up and this amazingly fantastic easy tutorial took me exactly 5 hours to build this table....yeah yeah I can hear you all laughing but I'm mighty proud....many many thanks for a splendid tutorial Matthias
thanks again for the videos. i just designed my workbench with the M&T's. a quick tip for others. if you are using the push/pull tool and doing the same measurement of another piece enter the measurement as shown, but then on the others you can double click and it will automatically do that measurement. this way you dont have to retype that everytime. Whata great program
thanks for this introduction. ... good explained in an English, that is good to understand ! ! ! ... not the rule for some other tutors, whom I cannot follow easily cause of their slang and fast speaking.
Yes, but that would hide all the edges. I want to keep some edges around. I really wish one could select the style on a per object basis though. That would be cool.
Thanks for sharing those videos, they are very helpful. I just have one question as my English is not so perfect, can you explain me how to move object UP ? thanks again.
Very good, you helped me a lot in all his videos. I learned a lot, even if you do not understand English very well splenic. If you want to allow to leave a tip. In this video I saw you very repeats commands already used once. In SketchUp can use a command once and if you need just two clicks to give it records the last command used. Cheers, and thanks again. Those were recorded on windows XP actually. But I prefer windows. We all prefer paper that is opaque, square, and a consistent colour. Why can't we have that on a computer anymore?
Excellent Tutorials. One thing you can do with the eraser is to hold down the shift key when clicking a line to hide it. Great for removing lines around curves and chamfers.
Hi i was just wondering how on the table top you got the lines around the top and bottom faces to murge as one? i bet "A Blob" where the round corner (Arch) meets the straight edge i've used soften and smooth tool to remove the vertical line that you get from using the push pull tool but cant seem to get rid of the blobs.
One thing that you will get addicted to when you go to clean up things, especially the non-essential contstruction lines is the eraser too. Simply drag the eraser over the things you want to delete and release the mouse, and they are gone. No extra step of hitting "delete". Start it by hitting 'e' I find that knowing and using the keyboard shortcuts speeds things up tremendously. 'T' for tape measure, p for pushpull Q for rotate, r for rectangle, C for circle.
Hello Mattias, First thanks for the tutorials, question? any other way or command to do all the corners at once same for legs, ? i understand the components going to be modified once the unique object is edited but i 'm talking about the element it self ? thanks
Matthias, you make woodworking look so effortless. I've been watching for a while now, and was excited to hand craft a mortise and tenon in my shop class. Unfortunately it ended up taking over and hour for one joint and was not completely square. All I had available for the mortise and tenon was a hand drill and chisel set. We weren't allowed the drill press as it was supposed to be all hand crafted. Any tips? My next project has more than one of these joins.
It is always a wonder watching your videos. Thanks for taking the time to do them. In this video it seems you toggle to orbit very quickly. Can you tell me how? I am sure it is a simple thing
Also, instead of hiding an edge to keep it from showing, hit "entity Info" and check or uncheck the appropriate check box. If you don't do this and you have previous things hidden that you want to show again, then you will have to unhide the lines you really want hidden too. The entity box allow you to make a line 'soft', 'smooth', and controls if it casts shadows.
I noticed that while watching this video, I was hitting the roller button of my mouse trying to move around on your video thinking that I was actually in Sketchup XD
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I'm trying to apply the chamfer to the tabletop, and it works on square corners, but a top with rounded corners adds extra faces on the sides. Help!
To delete construction lines go to EDIT, delete construction lines and all will be gone, to activate the arrow just press spacebar and the arrow will be selected. Great video's
Amen to that. The first thing I did when I loaded XP and Win7 was change it back to the Windows 2000 Server look. No need for the goofy/frilly/bubbly look.
Very nice use of the copy/paste and objects. That's what I need to do more of to improve my efficacy. Could you maybe do something with draws to show you you go about creating them?
Hello, How do you make the scenes in your plans show each part individualy? everytime I try to do that I can only control the 'camera' movement, and when I try to isolate a part, it does it in all the scenes. hope you can answer. Thanks!
there's also a plugin for sketchup for drawing gears. very nice tool, it can do bevel, helical, rack and pinion as well as planetary . will you review it in your tutorials?
Great videos and super teaching capacities. Could you add a fourth in this series to explain "Cutlist" the popular Sketchup plugin, thank you in advance.
Hmm, I can't get the push pull tool to recognize the corner to be trimmed. Just doesn't select. Anyone else have this and know off the top of their head why? Edit: OK, so I got it after a couple minutes. I hadn't opened the table top object by itself. I did, redrew the arc tangential to edge. Then it would 'push/pull' so I could trim.
Wich program do you use to make this kind of videos? maybe someone already asked you but i couldn't find it. Thanks! and keep doing videos about your work, they are great!
That is really nice, but i think the table could've used some darker color, because it kinda looks like plywood. That's just my personal preference though.
Don't know if you found out the answer to this yet, but everything in Sketchup is always made of straight segments. If you want to increase the smoothness of arcs, after you clicked the first time, you can press Ctrl+. Use Ctrl- to decrease the number of segments.
Not sure if you knew this or not, but there is a free tool that you can download that does chamfers, rounds and round overs. It is easy to use and is great for making crown molding. If your interested, I can send you the link.
Quick tip. In Preferences, Shortcuts, I assigned my D key to Edit/Delete Guides. After using them I can just press D and poof they're all gone. D key isn't assigned to anything by default.
