Sketchup How To Tutorial : Create 3D SketchUp topography from a PDF or JPEG image when you do not have a compatible file format to import into SketchUp. Only a few tools are required to transfer 2d information into your SketchUp model.
Determine the correct relationship between the terrain you're on and the building you're designing.
Please LIKE and SUBSCRIBE to my channel. I need everyone's help to play all 21 of my videos 100%. Don't need to actually watch if you don't want to, just play them using the PLAY ALL button. I'm looking for WATCH HOURS to be able to re-monitize by channel. I'll reward any participants with a copy of my SKETCHUP PRIMER book. Just make a comment telling me you helped out, along with an email and I'll fire out a 380 page pdf. THANKS, Chris

You are the Bob Ross of CAD topography...nice and calm instructional, without blaring music or annoying commentary. Thank you for the helpful video!

I've just finished a new web site which contains all of my videos and much, much more. I've been doing SketchUp seminars all across the country in 5-6 city tours and we are continuing to do so. Receive CEU's as well! Check out the seminar shedule and everything else at SketchUpacademy.com. Thanks for all your support!

It could be that you just can't see it. try setting the color of the lines to red or yellow or the like. The video shows you how to do that. If you can see them underneath then they certainly are on top as well.

when I loaded my jpeg on to the arbitrary rectangle, it came but when i draw the line for the property and others it actually shows underneath and not on top. What could I be doing wrong?

Did you change the color of the lines in Styles in the edit section?

None that I'm aware of. However there may be an extension that could. Check on the Sketchup extension warehouse and on Sketchucation.com. Sketchucation.com also has a forum where you may want to post your question. Maybe export to AutoCad? Not sure on this, you'd need SU Pro to export to Acad.

is there a way to export this to xyz coordinates?

every point in SketchUp has an x,y,z value. They can be found by using the text tool and clicking an end point or intersection. The value will show as text at the end of the leader. As such, the information is there; I have to assume someone has developed an app to read them over an entire drawing. Check out Smustard.com and SketchUcation.com to see if there's something there. If you have pro you can export the SU file to cad. I'm hoping that cad can read the mesh that gets exported from SU

Thank you!!!!! Someone who gets it. Get a lot of negative comments from the younger crowd about being too slow. I learned to use SketchUp on RU-vid and appreciated it when I could actually follow along. I now do on- line SU Tutoring. Call me at 630-440-6428 if you have any interest.
