Good idea for when only a rubber seal wore a grove in the shaft. I noticed this happening with pump shafts and had to replace the entire shaft when an O ring wore down a shaft enough for a drip leak of valuable fluid. It is true that rubber seals do wear down metal shafts. God bless.
I have a minor driver side axle seal leak after the mechanic put a new one in.I will be buying this product so he doesn't have to take my CV axle shaft apart again.
Do you need a different size seal after installing the sleeve? Why not put a dab of silicone or even blue locktite around the bottom, to prevent oil from leaking out below the sleeve?
No, same size of seal.Optionally, a light layer of a non-hardening sealant, e.g. Loctite 209, can be applied to the inside diameter surface of the sleeve. Clean away sealant that migrates to the shaft or sleeve outside diameter surface. If the shaft is deeply scored (see note above) fill the groove with a powdered metal epoxy type filler
