This was such a good video, I’m 15 and really want to be a snowboard instructor when I’m older! I would love to see a video on your kit or the qualification process. Stay safe :)

Great suggestion! I defiantly want to do more skiing content and thank you for the feedback. I can only talk from my point of view and the SBSSV (Austrian) system but I will do soon!

As soon as I saw the picture of the bus stop I thought that looks like St.Johann, then recognised Alpendorf straight away. Crazy how I’ve only watched one video about ski instructing and it ended up being at the place I go every year🤭🤭

What a coincidence! I'll (hopefully) be getting my Anwärter this winter and I'll be staying in Austria to teach for december and januari. So I stumbled upon your video and was like 'wait... I recognize these uniforms' and I'm also assigned to Toni's in Alpendorf!!!

Hey this was a great video thank you! I'm doing a gap year ski instructor course thing in italy this season aha and I'd love to see what things you take with you. Do you have any recommendations on boots too please cos I only have my racing ones so need new ones xx
@annabelcrichard
@annabelcrichard 3 года назад
I have the Atomic Hawx Ultra 115 and had them moulded. I love my boots as they preform well all-round (race/ freeride) however, they are quite stiff boots (I'm 48kg and 5foot) so not the most comfy to teach in.... I'll definatly plan to make a packing video if/ when I go out this season with Corona its all a little crazy!

Hey I’m looking to sit my basi level 1 any advice and how much experience should I have ? Xxx
@annabelcrichard
@annabelcrichard 4 года назад
Heya, fist off that's really cool and I wish you the best of luck! For BASI 1 you need to have a sound understanding of the mountain, skiing and your kit. Just make sure you know your basics and are confident in your ability to get around the mountain safely. You should however be skiing fully parallel and be able to ski all different difficulties and terrains.
@sophierodgers328
@sophierodgers328 4 года назад
Annabel Crichard awesome ! Thanks I’m pretty confident skiing in parallel. I seen on there website you need first aid training. should I have this prior the sitting my basi exam. Sorry for all the questions I find there information quite misleading. X
@annabelcrichard
@annabelcrichard 3 года назад
Sorry for the slow reply, I cant talk for BASI as I did the Austrian SBSSV system but I didn't specifically need prior first aid training. Although I am first aid trained and do think its a positive bonus if you are!

hi so i’m 15 i know i’ve still got many years to go to figure out what i want to do but it’s exiting thinking about my options. i live in new zealand and i have loved skiing and snowboarding since i was little, i’m just trying to get my head around this. do i go to university then become a ski instructor or do i become a ski instructor before university? what is your opinion. i am also planning next season to get out there and do level 1 ski instructor course, am i to young to?
@tomward7048
@tomward7048 3 года назад
Most places say 18
@annabelcrichard
@annabelcrichard 3 года назад
Heya, so in Austria you have to be 16 to do the first level qualification. So you could go next year before further education. I did my A-levels then did my first season at 18 then went to uni at 20... it really depends on what you want to do. Hope that helps :)

I’m still only 16 and plan to be a ski instructor when I’m older even thought I’ve only been skiing once lol how much experience would I need to have ?
@annabelcrichard
@annabelcrichard 4 года назад
I would suggest you should get yourself on skis a few more times, maybe on a dry-slope or in a ski dome if that is easier for you. To work in most ski schools you don't need much experience (you'll start off in kindergarten with the little kids) however, if you want to actually be teaching on the mountain you need to be to able to safely and confidently get around the mountain and have you instructor qualifications passed.
@dluthz5646
@dluthz5646 4 года назад
Ok ty for the advice so when I take a internship will it just be me being fought at the start or do I go straight to teaching kids ?
@annabelcrichard
@annabelcrichard 4 года назад
It depends on the ski school and your qualification level but most ski schools with have an introduction day or 2 where they explain how things work and show you around at the start. We also had 2 hours of ski instructor training each week, plus optional lessons to improve our own skiing skills.

What’s the best way to get to that point as a level 2 instructor? I’m not of that age yet but still very passionate about snowboarding.
@annabelcrichard
@annabelcrichard 3 года назад
Heya! As long as you have the passion and drive and keep practising before signing up to a course you'll be fine.... although I am aware that working in the EU is gonna change quite a bit now due to Brexit so we shall have to wait and see what qualifications etc we shall need/ how to get them.

I'm a ski instructor at Plymouth snowsports center but that's only a dry slope. can you become an instructor in Austria with BASI level 1?
@annabelcrichard
@annabelcrichard 3 года назад
Heya, so you will need your BASI level 2 that will qualify you to teach outside on a mountain or alternatively you could take the Austrian level 1 qualification which will also qualify you on the mountain (Anwarter) Hope that helps :)

Hey great video! Did you have to speak German to instruct in Austria?
@jellehilbers2242
@jellehilbers2242 3 года назад
If you work a season in a skischool you will learn to speak German really fast. Just try to talk a lot with the people and than you will learn it in couple weeks. End of the season you speel German 😉
@annabelcrichard
@annabelcrichard 3 года назад
Exactly, when you're in a country and surrounded by the language you learn fast. I am originally from Germany and speak the language fluently so it wasn't an issue. However, be aware if you want to do an instructor course, for example in Austria, to be qualified to teach you do already need to be able to speak basic German to pass the course!

@annabelcrichard
@annabelcrichard 4 года назад
Heya! The last 2 years that I have worked in Austria I was mainly teaching German and Austrian kids, in German. However, this is due to my German background and ability to speak German fluently. Our main clientele where German speaking individuals however we also had lots of Dutch, Danish, Romanian and English visitors. If you plan on teaching in Austria do some research on the ski schools and learn some basic German :)

@Higgypiggy01
@Higgypiggy01 3 года назад
@@simon-fk2ye Yeh you can mate, but it will limit your chances of ski schools choosing you other somebody else with the same qualifications but can speak another language. Additionally, you would be given less clients to teach if you are limited to one language, meaning you won't get paid as much.
