In his book Bas talks about finding Adler seated on the toilet, passed out with a needle in his arm and blood pouring out everywhere. It really fucked Sebastian up. He loved drinking and doing coke during that whole time but he never touched heroin.
While recording this song in the studio, he actually blew his vocals out. And he refused to record the rest until he could get it perfect the way he wanted it. From what he says, he let his voice rest for a time. Then went back into the studio and finished it. The whole slave to the grind album is probably his best vocal performance during his time in skid row. The whole album is fucking mind blowing. It’s in my top 3 albums of all time.
The song is about Steven Adler. Original drummer of Guns N Roses who was kicked out of the band for drug abuse. Skid Row and Guns N Roses were close friends back in the day. Skid Row would often open for Guns N Roses.
I don't consider skid-row a glam rock band or a hair band I considered them heavy metal band. What an awesome song. Their Slave to the Grind album is pretty much a greatest hits album in itself, every song jams.
Yes. The only "glam-hair-metal" trace is the looks of Sebastian, but his singing and band playing and the songwriting and overall expresion of Skid Row - is out of glam. They made a lot of meaningful music and songs and texts - and i love their Slave to the grind album. I think Skid Row was a standout and people on their own.
This song is just amazing, you can hear Sebastian's soul crying out to try and save his friend, for his friend to just hear him, ya know. This song just makes my heart break everytime i hear it because i go through this with my daughter, if only i could just get her to hear me and get off of the heroin
Skid Row was never a glam rock band. they didn't wear make-up, They had a common style that's it! I had a similar style back then and I was into Iron Maiden, King Diamond, Megadeth, etc...This fact has been lost on people over the years. Tesla falls into that category too.
@@zeem3366 I'm very sorry to hear about that I will include your daughter in my everyday prayers. May God help her overcome this hardship. 🙏 God bless you
You are listening to the wrong bands then ......Michael Sweet and Stryper ...OMG ..every album since coming back ...they were always very heavy and Michael's only has gotten stronger....just listen. New album Sept 13 new tune End of Days
Sebastian Bach one of the best vocalist of that era. He’s my favorite all time. I just saw him live before covid hit. And the dude can still wail. He still hits the high notes at age 52
I'm going to quote myself because the entire album Slave To The Grind stands up to this day! The production, mix just fucking blows out the speakers! When Monkey Business kicked in, we lost our fucking minds! Seriously, in 2021...turn that shit up and if that doesn't punch you in the face...go fuck yourself! lol
Skid Row with Sebastian Bach on vocals was on fire. They absolutely killed it with everything they did. As a huge Priest fan one of my favorite things ever was Skid Row covering Delivering The Goods featuring Rob Halford. Two vocal beasts going toe to toe and pushing each other.
Hands down most authentic reaction to this video on the interwebs. Leave it to up and coming musicians to really appreciate a special moment in time. IMO, Seb's best studio vocal performance.
This song was written about Sebastian's friend Steven Adler the original drummer of Gun's n Roses. He got addicted to heroin and his playing got so bad he was fired from Gun's n Roses. In 1996 Steven suffered a stroke after taking a speedball which is a mixture of heroin and cocaine. He was in a coma but survived. He had paralysis on one side of his face and a lisp. He's he's battled with his Addictions ever since but he seems to be doing okay these days. he still plays drums he's been in a couple of big bands and in 2016 he actually got to play a couple of shows with Guns and Roses again.
@@darrellwood3913 Skidrow during their glorious times.Skidrow now is not that appealing anymore 😒.I wish they'll reunite and make a reunion tour/concert but seems really impossible because of bolan and sabo.
Yeah, you’re getting a MasterClass in extreme vocals here. One of the best in the business, and possibly THE best in his genre. Sebastian Bach pouring his heart out with his lungs.. Can you FEEL me inside your HEART as it’s BLEEDING ? Why can’t you believe you CAN loved ?
Every time I listen to this song, it brings tears to my eyes. The emotion penetrates your soul. The entire album is a masterpiece and is easily in the Top 5 albums released by an artist in this genre.
They say Bach had actually ruptured his vocal cords making that record and wasted time was one of the songs recorded after he healed but has one of the greatest voices to come out of the late 80s
Yeah, you can't forget that solo. Scotti Hill could tear your heart out and rip your face off at the same time. His solo for 'I Remember You' does the same thing.
This is my absolute favourite reaction ever to this song. The facial expressions, awe and emotions that shows on your faces tells a story in itself. Thank you so much for this guys
I just had an old friend and another lady from my hometown pass away a couple days ago. I cane across this and just remember high school, my old friends and how were at that place in time where we start losing friends. Im going to cry now. Thanks for this reaction.
Written for Steven Adler (GnR drummer) who had a terrible and very public battle with his addiction. It was public grieving for a friend - who thankfully did recover, eventually.
Oh man, skid row, that guy was a beautiful, powerful singer, something that is lacking in male rock singers today...18nand life is fire and so is youth gone wild. In a darkened room is beautiful There was such a beauty and melodic sense of taste in 80s rock power ballads... I miss it
I'm subscribing just for this video. Sebastian is amazing and this song is for Steven Adler of Guns N Roses who battled heroine and lost his career and everything in the 80s
I assume you have heard I remember you by skid row. If not check it out! Wasted time was written about the old drummer Steven Adler from guns and roses who got kicked out of the band for drug use. Skid row and guns and roses toured together for a year and I guess him and Steve Adler became close friends so that's who the songs about and his heroin use
Incredible song and video. Sebastian in his day was one of my favorite vocalists up there with Geoff Tate, Bruce Dickinson ,Jeff Scott Soto and of course the great Ronnie James Dio
I came across your reaction video by chance, and decided to take a look as Skid Row is a favourite of mine. I still listen to their music 30 years on, and they still blow me away. I watched both of your individual reactions to this master piece, and you could see how much you were both moved in some way. To me, skid row in particular, were power ballad masters.
Sebastian is something else... The greatest voice of 80's metal scene. Wasted Time is my favorite song. 18 and Remember are much more popular but for me this is their greatest ballad... And I wouldn't worry too much about him getting a hug or two... Rockstar with that face...
The emotion of this song, and way it makes you reflect on your own life, concerning mistakes, or dessions made life, is amazing. It brings me to tears almost everytime. It is a masterpiece, as any painting or sculpture, that brings out emotion is.😢🤘
Awesome! You took me back to my teen years. It was such a beautiful song then and it still is. I haven’t heard this song since probably 1992 or 1993ish
Bach tells the story with a wonderful voice. In 1992 I listened to Wasted time in Saigon, the south of Vietnam, I still listen to it over and over again in the past 30 years. Thanks Bach, Skid Row
Axl Rose of GNR / Sebastian Bach of Skid Row / Miljenko Matijevich of SteelHeart / Chris Cornell of Sound Garden are the only Metal singers that in their primes could peel the paint off of the walls singing like this with there multi-octave Primal Scream voices .
He's basically been on tour his whole life! Check out Sebastian Bach's solo stuff - the song Kicking and Screaming is a favorite of mine! Keep Rock Alive!! 🤘🏽🖤🔥🙌🏼 ℁
Just subscribed!!! Have to admit, luv your guys facial expressions when u hear his voice! Just also seen ur Quicksand Jesus reaction!! Epic!! I’m 54. No one could touch Sebastian in Vocals when Skid Row was all together. Seen them twice back to back at the Forum with Guns, at the Hollywood palladium and with BON JOVI. Then seen him 2 yrs ago solo at Chase county FG in Neb. Still giving that energy. Dude had “Golden Pipes” but let it go to head! Why Skid Row broke! In a darkened room, or I remember you! Get your crunched faces ready!! Let’s get a REACTION!!!!!!
So great to see younger generations appreciating the great music of my era! Sebastian Bach, IMO, is the best vocalist in music! Him, Ronny James Dio and Freddy Mercury! I know a lot of people say this song was about Steven Adler, but I respectfully disagree. Baz wrote the lyrics (which is why Rachel Bolan calls it "the worst piece of crap we've ever done"). I know Baz has two brothers that had trouble with addiction. "You and I together in our lives, *sacred ties* will never fray". That leads me to believe he was referring to one or both of them (one had a pill addiction, so I lean toward the other). Again, JMO! And I love "In a Darkened Room", because of or in spite of the subject matter (I go back and forth), but the rest of Slave to the Grind is just as awesome! Try Monkey Business and the title song itself sometime-- I don't think you'll regret it!😊 Side note: Baz's late father did the artwork for the cover of SttG (and inside art for their 3rd-- and last album with Baz-- Subhuman Race, which is thought by *many*, myself included, to be their best album of the 3). Thanx for your insight! My best to you and yours!😊
I've seen other reactions to this. You're the first ones who get it, and appreciate the vocals and emotion. We've probably all had some similar situations in our lives. This song always brings it home to me and makes this grown man tear up. Thank you for this reaction.
This IS the Best song to see Reacted on All of RU-vid,.. Every part of this song just AMAZES ANYONE who has never Heard it~ You guys DID NOT Disappoint! Remarkable song and performances~
Seb Bach was awsome, and Skid Row were one of my favourite bands growing up. They helped pioneer the 80s rock scene with G'N'R , Warrant, Great White, Poison and Saxon. Yes I have left some out and some were actually 70s ie Aerosmith, but Skid Row were awsome
Man this song brings back so many childhood memories, skid row and metallica were my 1st 2 vinyl records back in the late 80's, Wasted Time is my all time favorite song by Skidrow, I still listen to it to this day. It takes me back to simpler days not that things are terrible but it was just simpler then lol Thanks for taking me back this was a blast!
Baz’s Vocals are Fire and Brimstone ( maybe from Almighty God himself!) and Dave “The Snake” Sabo is one of the most underrated lead guitarists of all Time! This is also one of the Best Rock/Metal Power “Ballads” of all Time!
@aliendan4911 I have both of those CDs and I’m pretty sure the liner notes say otherwise. 😎 Scotti played the solo on their cover of Jimi Hendrix’s “Little Wing”! 😉🤩
I remember Sebastian making a cover of Eternal Life by Jeff Buckley a while after he and Skid Row splitted. It was an insane cover. I could never find it in youtube! 😵
Thank you so much for reacting to this. I've been requesting it for awhile. It's one of the best reactions I've seen to this song.. so genuine and honest. Keep Rockin' guys! \m/
Another Canadian shredding vocals...lol...representing Ontario I might add...I remember him before Skid Row,before he was really anywhere close to getting signed, huge hair two different coloured shoes good old days
You should see Skid Row live, Mudkicker - Budokan Hall (1992). Sebastian singing live isn't always as good as in studio but his spirit and energy is always so high, worth ignoring little flaws. Really fun to watch.
Seen a lot of comments on other channels of people bashing “hair band” era. I guess because of image. You can’t deny the talent and especially the vocalist during this time period. Anyone can growl like a demon. Try singing like this.
