I have always wanted to ride up Skiddaw on the E-MTB having walked it a great many times over the years, and today was the day.
I typically using Ullock Pike as the ascent route on foot as it’s one of Lakeland’s best ridge walks, but on the bikes we need to use legal bridleways so today we are taking the dreaded route right up the front. Our route takes us up to the 3052ft summit of Skiddaw, then down the other side to Bakestall Summit, then along Birketts edge and down to Whitewater Dash falls.
From there we turn right he descend to Skiddaw House before turning right next heading alongside the notorious Lonscale Crags where people have died traversing the exposed edge. You wont miss that bit in the video… very exposed!
The descent was well worth the hard climb. The ground was icy above 2000ft and although the GoPro disguises it as always, this was some of the scariest and steepest terrain I have ridden. A lot of the time you couldn’t stop the bike if you wanted too. Awesome…
Well, it was awesome until I fell off and smashed my knee. Listen out for the CRACK…
Mileage: 14
Ascent: 3700ft
