Yeah, we just mill up pine ourselves, for large/expensive lumber/beams for stuff like barn addition and such, because it's not worth anything. Good thing we don't have very much pine (we're in Indiana, so it's mostly poplar, oaks, shagbark, and hard maple)
looks to me like you did a great job,,,,one man,,,no help,,,,no way to get things done at both ends,,,you have to walk back and forth many times,,,,no strain on tractor to break it,,,no dumb mistakes on your end to get you in a big hurry where you get hurt,,,,at the end,,,good grouping in your landing,,,no damage to you or machine,,,,,who could have done it better??? Yarding logs is something that is very difficult to teach. It takes first hand experience to learn about not doing all the bad things, like damaging trees not being taken out. . I find it rather impressive that a tractor made for row cops, works so good for something it wasn't really made for. Its capabilities are similar to are little gerrett 15 skidder. Biggest difference is the little 172ci ford industrial engine
Just hope your chains and cables are in good condition. I used to drag trees with a 50’ 3/8” trace chain and a 100’ steel cable with drag hooks on each end. I also used a much bigger tractor than you. I did gent stuck a few times but not that often. I did not worry about selling timber. I cut the wood for firewood. The timber I sold was cut down by loggers. I supervised what they cut but not how the cut. If I could have found a way to get them to clean up the mess they left. I usually stacked and burned them when I back burned the farm the next Spring.
So jealous of your woods. Mines mostly dead ash w tons of undergrowth. Mostly wild rose, i wear brush chaps instead of saw chaps. What model is the ole IH? Know you use a 2750 too, thats what i use
You won't get much money for that maple that has been tapped ! Everyone is sugaring here in northern Vermont, gonna be alot of dead maple trees in the future.
