That was a great year for all 3 brands.i had a 95 zrt 600,buddies had the zrt 600 and others had f3 amd xcrs…it was extremely fun.they were all so competitive.we were always doing some Gearing, clutching carb work to hopefully get the edge on your buddy.than it was pipes shaved heads, timing keys, big carbs ect.triple/triple days…what a time to be alive!
Always liked the purple screamers. Those sand cast 99.5 MXZ 700's and 2000 formula z's always seemed to run so much better than the diecast 700 that followed too. Keep up the great vids!
Interesting story! So, I'm just curious......when you look at the engine itself, is it obviously sandcast? Like is it really easy to tell the sandcast from the spuncast just by looking at them?
If you know what to look for, yes. It is easy to tell. It is obvious when the top end is off of the case. The inner halves of the case are equally as textured/rough as the exterior on a sandcast case versus a smooth inner half of a spun cast case. The aluminum is also a darker grey on a sand cast case as well.
I wish I still had a lot of things that came out of that little farm shop back in the 90’s Mike! Like your 93 Plus X, your 99 MxZ 700…….if we only knew.
Just curious, if the roughness of the original sandcast was the greatest benefit, do you think sandblasting the inside of the case on a non-sandcast 600 would be benificial?
