Old-fashioned cast iron skillet cobblers are very easy to make. This is a recipe for a Skillet Rhubarb Cobbler. We used a vintage Griswold 8" skillet. If you use a newer skillet, please make sure the width of the bottom of the skillet is 8 inches. Some of the newer skillets are measured across the top versus across the bottom.

💖😎 Grow some in the garden. It comes back every year, if you take care of it. Find some videos on how to grow it. Just need a sunny spot in the backyard. If it goes into bloom, remove the whole flower stem, otherwise you might lose the established plant. Can also be grown from seed, but that takes a lot of time. Best get a plant at the garden nursery. The mature plant's bulb can be divided and replanted. A way to multiply your rhubarb plants, by planting more. From the third year on you will have really large stems, the only edible part of the plant. They are very beautiful in the garden. You can also slice these stems, and freeze for later use. Enjoy.

Big thumbs up for the griswald cast iron. They don't make cast iron pans that smooth these days. It should have markings on the bottom that would make it easy to figure out when it was made.
@patriciamorgan6545
@patriciamorgan6545 4 года назад
Agreed. Those are the ones I grew up with---cast iron was the only type of skillet we had back then (pre-nonstick). I can't imagine trying to make scrambled eggs on the rough-textured ones you find today. The smooth ones seemed to work just fine. Of course, there was probably also a good deal of bacon grease in use back then, too... I still have the antique cast iron corn stick pans that Mom occasionally used when I was a kid. (They are a real pain to clean, as I found when I resurrected them, after being lost for 10 years, and disused for 30.) The patent date is 1920!!

@@patriciamorgan6545 Soon to be an antique, then, if you know when it was made. I still have the one I bought in '65 when I got married, and it's well seasoned. I also have an ebleskiver pan I got when I learned to make them in Home Ec in '58. My husband loved those little stuffed pancakes.

@@chezmoi42 Some of my best food memories are from cast iron pans including abelskiver! They are definitely labor intensive but oh so worth it! When I lived in Humboldt County, California there was a wonderful festival in the town of Ferndale every summer. Lots of Scandanavians in this community who hosted a food booth featuring Abelskiver. They must have made thousands of those tasty little puffs from Heaven! Looked forward to this every year 😁

I cannot wait to try my hand at this, dear Grandma Feral -- thanks once again for sharing the recipe, and for rekindling a memory in me: my late, beloved Fitz, whose cast-iron skillets were the pride of his (our) kitchen, suddenly developed an interest in baking pies in what turned out to be the final few years of his life. I recall our first such effort together, a fresh peach pie with a latticed crust l wove for it (so delicious)...and his final wish of this sort, to create a strawberry-rhubarb pie -- but, alas, there was then no rhubarb to be had...and he slipped away before any became available. I sense Fitz would have loved this pie, dear Grandma Feral; he sends love and best wishes (as do I) from heaven to both you & Grandpa Feral. Stay safe and well, and love to your outdoor clowder.

@@GrandmaFeral Hi .. I did make it and loved it . I made several modifications. I used the 4 c. rhubarb. 3/4 c sugar into the rhubarb. I also add 1/2 c of raisins into the fruit. For the crumb mix, I used only 1 tsp b. powder, and no sugar.. Next time , I will add 1 Tbsp. of sugar .. that's all . This makes it much more healthy, but it still tasted really good to me. After I added the crumb mix to a 8 x 12 inch glass baking dish, I sprinkled 1/3 cup of nuts ( walnuts) over this crumb mix. Then I added the fruit mix on top . Even on top of the fruit, I sprinkled some chocolate chips. mmmmm.... The really great part was that I baked this in the toaster oven so did not have to heat up my oven. I will be making this again very soon ! Thanks ! loving it !
