Thanks, I'm glad. I'm not really looking yet, though. I want to wait until I know I can protect that special girl and all she holds dear. This might be wishful thinking, but I want my first relationship to be my only relationship. I'm super protective, so I don't want to rush things and end up causing a girl pain. I know I can't protect a girl from everything, but that's where God proves His might. He'll do what I can't. After all, that girl is his daughter. I just need to work on trusting him.

Repetition begets belief. I struggled with depression a lot pretty much all of my teen and adult life. I didn’t really talk about it too much but I still felt dead already on the inside and didn't want to go on. Then I met my best friend, who I didn't know at the time was going to be my best friend. He was just a really good and caring person. Somehow he caught on to my low self-esteem and insecurities on a non-verbal level and began regularly feeding me praise and encouraging words. Every so often he would send me these long detailed text messages listing all the things I was doing right and how much he appreciated me, and at work he would often compliment me and commend me to other people. (He was my boss at the time.) It didn't really work for a while, but he still continually persisted, gradually breaking down the wall of doubt and countering the negative voices in my head. Now he's my best friend in the world, worth a hundred regular ones, and I'm not alone anymore. I have to go on, because someone actually thinks I'm worth keeping around, that I'm not a burden, that I actually have something to contribute. Someone cares whether I make it to tomorrow. Someone would miss me if I disappeared. He's still there for me, even though we don't work together anymore, and he still picks me up whenever I'm feeling down and makes sure I know he's just a phone call away. His words still echo inside my and hold me accountable when I criticize myself. I think: "What would D- think about what I'm saying to myself right now?" and the negative voices get shut up a lot easier now. I think about him when I hear this song or "Looking for Angels", because he is the angel who pulled me out of the metaphorical gutter. For some of us it will always be a battle, but friends do make a difference. Mine did what no pill or therapist could. Just keep persisting, and one day your friend may thank you the way I'm always thanking mine. Don't let up. I realize it's been years and you may not need these words anymore, but I just want to reach out to all the friends of people who suffer from depression and let them know it's not in vain. Keep trying and don't give up.

Because high school, like for many, sucked for me. It was a really hard time.
