I was down there that weekend and I have to admit it brought back many happy memories!!! And we know the reputation we had in our day but there an amazing bunch!!!! Thank you for some happy chats
I believe it should come back,But problem is for youngsters to be interested in Skinhead Culture,It needs to reinvent itself from the secound wave. First wave as you know was the 60s/70s with the Black Fashion and music vibes that White folk liked and joined in together and wider society had no problem. Then the 1980s secound wave UK White folk wanted they're identidy and went from the snazzy suits and dress codes of the Black guys,Flight Jackets/Boots and Braces. Nothing wrong there and i loved it including OI music. The thing that messed Skinhead up and a lot went away from it,Is it became hijacked by White supremisists and kicked the Black people in the Teeth where it once originated. Plus with the NF and then branches od Neo Nazie etc. Do most people you mention Skinhead to now,Its just seen as a bunch of Racists especally the secound wave which i grew up with. For my mind i believe the only way Skinhead could ever go to third wave,Is ? Go back to its roots and music that includes Black folk and White folk in bands together,Like SKA as most like SKA anyway and for thise who like the OI sounds of heavy guitars and drums,Make the music for the modern folk without anything that sounds Racist and just good heavy vibes about the good side of Skinhead Culture but obviously the Union Jack and Patriotism will always be there in the music. Bikers are feared for example but UK Bikers do runs for charity,Raise money so they don't get no stick. So i'm not saying Skinheads have got to change into a bunch of nancy boys of coarse not,But the reputation of the OI 1980s Skinhead is why it pretty much died away and the Neo Nazie tw..s that are still around have ruined it. Skinhead is great and a third wave would be great but it needs to reinvent itself away from the apparent Racist boot boy as we're all looked at as Combo from this is England. It would be a big change from Years of wanna be Rappa Gangsters music which at moment most UK kids love,So a third wave would be a nice change. If you think i've talked Bol...s and done your brain in please say i'm not offended lol
Anyone got any photos from August Bank Holiday 1984 ? I was a 12 year old skinhead back then , some Skinheads put me on their shoulders as near 300 or more Skinheads marched down the seafront from the Richmond pub . Great days
they marched us down west st along to bedford square and back past churchill square 2nd time around my mate pete gill from littlehampton, shoved his way through the old bill and we followed ,ran down through russell square
@@scootercoop5234 Not heard about that one mate? But theres a Punk get together in Blackpool. It was last weekend i think. Been a Skinhead since 1979. Most my original mates eventually dropped out the scene. Iv got one mate 60, from Newcastle still into it. Be good if could get a do going on Tyneside. Theres still a few Skins around Tyneside. Many in their 50s and early 60s now. Im 62. Still a few Scooter boys around too. Plus lads new to the scene.
@@occidentadvocate.9759 it’s called “punk by the sea” first weekend in September in Morecambe … I’m thinking of coming up there to do a feature .. if you do go over to it pop over and say hi 👋
Old punk here just wondering when The Skids song Into The Valley became a skin anthem? I had loads of lovely non-racist skin mates back in the day in our part of SE London.
The music that’s played Si doesn’t necessarily reflect on the videos , take a look at some of the other videos … putting music to videos isn’t as easy as you may think / you have copyrights to contend with and you can only play what you own …that video was about 6 months ago , it may be that at that time it was all I owned that wasn’t northern soul 👍
Punk was lame compared to skinheads. Soft lads in comparison. I wasn’t either, I was part of another scene that they both hated (Mods!), but hey, that’s the way it was, we were all young and they were great times :)
