Thanks for this. Not everyone is a hot rodder. Some of us need or want to keep the old original carbs working. This will help.
@yarpos

Agreed. Not sure what all the wankers carrying on about EFI think they are achieving. The topic of the video was maintaining carbs, nothing about EFI. Most of the worlds small 4 stroke engines are carb operated, a lot of the classic cars people keep are carb operated. People know they can convert if the want (the cars at least) but they choose not to, who cares? I must have missed the announcement about EFI becoming a religion.

I used to be into carbs, then I learned how AFR, EGT, AIT, TPS, MAP, FP, and other stuff is very important to engine operation. EFI and computers are around for a reason. Motec, Haltech, Vipec, even AEM... get with the times!

working on carbs is a lost art. I have a 2005 Yamaha RX-1 Snowmobile (1000cc)that uses a four pack of carbs and I love it. They are so simple and very easy to tune. I think EFI is great but a part of me loves the simplicity

I love modern technology, but it's always nice to understand the older technology and what's going on for the market of parts for classic cars. Despite wishing to daily drive a vehicle with EFI, my desire to purchase and own a carbureted vehicle has not faded. I appreciate the information and upload, thanks so much!

This is why I only use brass tipped needles. Aside from mechanical mismatch, the ethylene in current fuels can etch away the rubber tipped needles. I get a year out of brass tipped needles in the DCOEs on my daily driver, as opposed to 2-3 months from viton tipped needles.

Unless you run on fumes, then you only need the throttle plate to control the demand to the motor. You get rid of a ton of fueling issues when you convert to that. Because not only can you do it different ways (fueling) you can mix what all is making the fumes too. Very cool indeed. Over 100 year old tech and we're still ignorant of it (most folks are).

1. A Renntransporter in the background!!! WOOOOW!! 2. Ooooh, a fuel float valve, how nice. You don't need a book to fix that! What should I do if an imbecile who read an article in a magazine about tuning, thought he now understands carbs and fucked up the emulsifier tube? Most people don't even know there is a part under the main jet with 1-5 _thou_ holes in it, that's the MOST IMPORTANT part of the carb!

It's not about that. It's about keeping classic cars in tune and original. I like EFI and electronic distributorless ignition too. I can only imagine how hard it would be to maintain cars like my minivan where I can't even get to the spark plugs if there were still points and non-Platinum plugs.
@MrKeyboardCommando

Hustle Union It isn't rascism. Decades ago the Far East (Asia) was referred to as the Orient and people from those areas were Orientals. Just words, my friend. You're ignorance on the subject shows you don't have much knowledge of the world.
@-HustleUnion-

srercrcr your ignorance on thinking that you know if he is racist or not is clear. do you know for sure, I think not so don't do this " I know more shit then you" crap on youtube it was a joke captain obvious
@MishtahPoog
@MishtahPoog 10 лет назад
Hustle Union Yeah, "Oriental" was never inherently a derogatory or offensive term. It's just another way of essentially saying "Eastern". The issue with its use is more one of context; it's rarely a good decision to attempt to refer to an entire half of the Earth, containing such a massively broad array of peoples and cultures, in any certain terms. Usually when people use the term "Oriental" they tend to be using it in an ignorant and short-sighted way to begin with, which has lead to the perception that the word itself is bad. Further, during the time where discrimination against many Asian peoples was at its pinnacle, many used the term as a general descriptor for those groups, cementing in many an association between the two. One final note is that many perceive the term to be very Western centric, as divisions between what was and was not part of "the Orient" were largely (if not entirely) determined by those in Europe. Thus most of the people even familiar with the term tend to be from European or European-influenced countries.

@Mladjasmilic
@Mladjasmilic 10 лет назад
Carbs are ancient technology . They have so many parts to go wrong , so it is best to be replaced . Companies could produce modular monopoint fuel injectors with integraded air flow meter , fuel flow meter and throtle position meter thah it interchangble with carb it replaces - brackets , sealing , pypes etc. Also , it connects to ignition switch . Gonvermets can force people to use them by having mandatory emition regulations for every road-legal car that none carb car could meet .
@Patrick94GSR
@Patrick94GSR 10 лет назад
Government requiring modifications done to old cars? Hmm how about no.
@Mladjasmilic
@Mladjasmilic 10 лет назад
For instance , China has outlawed pre-2005 made car due high polution . What is the point of forcing manufactures to make low poluting cars if there are still high poluting cars on the road . In UK , in order for car to pass MOT , brakes and steering must work , car has meet polution regulations , it should not be rusty on important places etc. I live in Serbia (southeastern Europe) and my grandfather has '88 Ford Sierra . After car has failed test because it was too smoky and to noisy , we had to do engine rebulid , clean carb and change exaust system . But as it is old car , it doesn't need to meet strict regulations as new cars , so it passed . In some cities in Europe , due to noise and polution , two-stroke cars like Trabbant are outlawed (google pics Trabbant smoke) . Cuba has very nice solution for this problem - as up to this year poeple could not legaly sell their cars , during years ther replaces gas guzzling V8 with more economical engines . So only thing you should replace in cars is it's old engine . Many musclecars owners do LS swaps for power , why other do not do swaps for cleaner air .

Mladen Milić Hey boss, not harshing your style but here in America we believe in freedom. Government's job is to protect me from foreign invaders, print the money, and let everyone do whatever they want as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else. After that the government should get out of the way. As I understand you have a different idea of governmental responsibilities I will just say this: More power to you, I hope if we ever meet we can have a drink and teach each other all about each other's cars and women.
@Mladjasmilic
@Mladjasmilic 10 лет назад
People are like small children - they do things they should not do because they think it is not bad for them . For instance , you have free gun trading laws , because you need gun for protection (but police is there to protect you, right) . You have situation where every madman or maniac could legaly owe a gun , and normal people that are becoming murdurers because they were protecting from them . Not to mention colateral damage . Imagine that there are no drinking and driving laws , no speed limits , no polution laws . It is more profitable to run factory without any filters , throwing garbage through window , taking food from shops when you are hungry , etc. Some people think that they are not hurting anyone else doing that . But some countries , like mine , are idiotic - they do not let me to build EV because in order to be road legal it must have data like displacement and engine number , fuel only can be gasoline or diesel , and for any modification they me to ask for manufacter's persmision for modification .
