I got a tailored suit once... then started weight training, lol. Forgot all about the suit then when I had to actually wear it, it was too small, lol. Suits are hard. Depending on your occupation and lifestyle you could go lengthy periods without wearing them and in that time your body can change quite a bit.
@Selim Mašić hard to tailor to what you might end up looking like. I’m ecto as well but the few pounds I added really made the suit obsolete lol. As an ecto it’s hard seeing suits fit others so snug and proper then when you try yours it just looks awful.

Great video! SO important in nailing the fit in a suit and getting the best quality suit that you can afford. I purchased a $1,600 charcoal grey Hickey Freeman for a fraction of the price on sale when the store was having an off season sale. Suit came with free alterations and the material is awesome and lux. It is a power statement that I don't need to wear often, but I find events to wear them...pre COVID-19. Dinners, parties, interviews, dancing...if you have the right suit, I notice that people do look at you differently in a good way. I'm fortunate to be 42R so it's easier and more reasonable than custom/bespoke.

Normally I wear business casual clothing most days and using the Antonio’s recomendations a few years back I was able to pickup great pieces that looks amazing and feel great. The amount of complements I receive is insane(using a signature scent, of me course). You change the way that I look to myself and how I send the message to the people. Greetings from Chile.
I concur! I’ve been of diminutive stature and weight (5’4”, 123lbs.) most of my life and have to order MTM for suits & shirts b/c they’re too big OTR. Same for shoes/ boots. That’s why I love Thursday Boots b/c they accommodate us smaller footed gents. But I digress. Pls more videos for dressing the more diminutive gentleman!
Antonio's right on the money, especially when it comes to pleats. I can say that for most skinny men (not the man in question with scoliosis) the key is to correct your posture first by standing up straight with your shoulders back. A suit will look much better this way, especially when you have it tailored. Some skinny men also have very long, skinny necks. There are exercises you can do to mitigate this, but if you're on a time budget, I say avoid a bow tie. Try to get as thin a tie as possible and make sure to follow the rule of having the tie's tip fall just past the top of your belt. Jury's out on suspenders or belts for tall skinny men, but it's best to avoid a thick belt with a large buckle. Source: being a tall skinny guy that wears suits all the time. They best thing you can do as a tall skinny man is correct posture and start doing bodyweight exercises like neck lifts, pushups, tricep dips, sit-ups, and squats.
Thanks, great comment. I'm 6'4" 205 lbs...finding clothes that fit AND won't break the budget is a real challenge. Living in a small town adds to the problem, not much selection.
Speaking of wool and wool/cashmere blends, I’ve noticed from J. Crew in passing that they will release topcoats in both variants, and the ones that are made from wool/cashmere usually end up being less expensive than the ones made just from wool, which I find to be surprising.
Wish there were more occasions to wear my suit instead of it just sitting in my closet but in the future I definitely plan on getting a few sport coats and a blazer. I've been working out and am proud of the progress I've made so far. Personally I prefer slim fit since straight cut pants tend to look somewhat baggy on me now and yes I am still improving legs so no worries haha! But for shirts small and slim fit are definitely more flattering. For jackets though should they be the same size as the shirt or should you size up on them? Sorry if you spoke about some of this in the video I was a bit preoccupied.
Whenever I can and especially if I can't hide it, I go for MTM. I'm a short bloke, at 5"3', and I weigh 70kg (~154lbs). However, I'm actually pretty slim (on the border of skinny), my stomach barely protrudes out, and I have pretty broad shoulders for someone of my height and skinny body type. All of my mass in my above average weight (for someone my age and height) just goes straight to my butt, so my waist is quite big lol With these awkward measurements, whenever I get any OTR clothes, they'll fit perfectly in some aspects but is too big/small in other aspects. For tops, jumpers, shirts, it's not too bad. You can hide it easily. But a suit or leather jacket, I need that stuff MTM

Has there been a trend recently towards shorter jackets, and shorter pants? Before the pandemic, I noticed a lot of “Bay Street” (Canada’s Wall Street lol) types with jackets much shorter than the guidance here as well as pants which definitely aren’t breaking on the shoe. In fact a lot of times the socks were showing.

This is funny. I'm 5'8" and 151 lbs. I had gotten a really cheap off the rack suit jacket about 25 years ago that just fits me to perfection to this day. I'd bet green money from the feel and care tag that it's probably 100% polyester. It says Oakton Ltd. Collection on the tag, tailored in the USA and actually says Perma-Prest classic collection, machine wash cold, tumble dry medium. Lol. It's charcoal grey, classic style with 3 fancy gold buttons on the sleeves and two in the front with a single vent in the back. It fits my slender but sightly muscular v-shape upper body perfectly. I have slightly lighter charcoal grey Haggar polyester/rayon rack pants that fit perfectly with a nice black belt and shoes and a YSL gold/matte silver belt buckle to tie it all together with a nice red tie with blue and greenish/gold square type of patterns on it for some contrast with a pure white shirt. i can't tell you how many times I've gotten complements from relatives, friends and acquaintances (mostly women) at how sharp, classy and distinguished I look in it. On the dating sites I had gotten hundreds of thumbs up for that photo of it with my hand on my hip look. I walk through a store and people thing I own the place. I think with the perfect fit and blend of colors with just the right buttons, tie and belt I got lucky and nailed it. Sometimes you can get something quite cheap and still look and feel like a million dollars. I love that suit. I look better in it than my navy, no vent, plain black button Pierre Cardin suit, which is nice but I just never got the same amount of reaction from. I'm sure those in the know that spend thousands on a suit would probably smirk at someone complementing me on it due to the quality of fabric but from a slight distance who really knows or cares anyways, a long as it looks good to so many people. I think the fit is the most important thing by far, then the overall look and then the quality/price. Just my humble opinion. Great video Antonio!
