If you’re a skinny guy who wants to look a little bigger, these tips will help. Quick disclaimer: there’s nothing wrong with the skinny body type. A lot of guys and gals love this physique, and having less body fat than other people isn’t exactly a bad thing.
This video is about using style to add a bit of visual bulk to your frame, but I want to emphasize that you do not have to dress in a way that changes or enhances your physique. If you’re skinny and want to wear oversized tees and relaxed jeans, that’s totally fine.
There’s a lot of pressure these days for men to look muscular, and I think it’s ridiculous. I’m a pretty slim guy, but I’m healthy and love the way I look. And guess what? So does my wife.
My point is, you don’t have to follow the advice in this video, but there’s nothing wrong with keeping these tricks in your arsenal so you can use them when you feel like it.

I've totally noticed the thing with the collar on jackets. i see other channels swearing by the bomber jacket and while I think it's a classic men's wear piece I just don't think it is flattering on guys like me who are relatively skinny. Going with the collar whether with the jacket or a shirt helps build up the chest i think

I am not skinny (5’9’ about 170lbs) and I still don’t wear bomber jackets for this exact reason. Every time I’ve tried one on I’ve always thought a collar would look better.

The cutoff sock worn inside the boot is brilliant. I never would have thought of that as a solution for padding your ankles. This video raises a question about underwear for short guys. I have no shame in admitting that I've worn Boy's size underwear, well, my entire life. It generally looks the same as men's sizes, and it's significantly cheaper. Though one time I remember buying my underwear in a department store, and I wasn't sure whether to buy the size L or XL, so I asked the sales clerk, and then she asked me, "How old is the child you're buying this for?" She blanched when I told her that the "child" was 55. Otherwise, I don't think I've ever seen men's underwear come in XS size.

I tried my first pairs of skinny fit chinos and jeans today and they are hands down the best pants I have ever put on in my life. As a tall guy with skinny long legs, I've always hated buying pants, went for bigger waist size than I should have, and baggier fits - and boy how calamitously wrong I was. Skinny/ slim tapered is the way to go. They flatter and paradoxically shape your legs to make them look fuller and aesthetic.

IM NOT ALONE! This video is the first time in my entire 40 plus years I realize there are more like me. It’s awesome. I’m 6 ft 130. Healthy…just can’t gain weight ever. So I am a higher up working in Biotech and am constantly struggling with style. What’s so nice is that I’ve been doing a lot of these things already and thought I was alone. Great tips, Brock! It's taken me a lifetime to figure out most of the skinny guy "dos" you just covered. I'll add two more to the mix: 1) when wearing a sports or suit jacket, always choose a notch lapel over peak style. And 2) Keep your hair trimmed short on the sides. It instantly makes your neck look more muscular.

Hey Brock, I'm 5'8 and slim with a 27" inseam so I have to get all of my jeans hemmed. T-shirts fit ok for the most part but anything with long sleeves (including jackets) need to be shortened. Do you also suffer from this plight?

Some great tils in there! I think an additional one that might prove valuable is wearing thicker fabrics. Think a chunky sweater / cardigan vs. one in light merino wool. This adds a lot of perceived bulk to the wearer.

whats wrong with working out if your skinny though? It makes you look better, makes you stronger and strengthens your joints. Don’t have to be huge, but adding 10-20 pounds of mass will boost clothing choices, confidence etc.

If only it was that easy. I'm sure I'm not alone as a skinnier guy with a stupid high metabolism. I spent a month eating over 4k calories per day and working out strength only through out the week, I gained 4 pounds. I know that's not an awful gain but it takes a lot of time, planning and work.

The struggles of a skinny guy like me in a tropical country with average temperature of 26 - 32 degrees Celsius. The common method of adding bulk with clothing is to wear more layers and long sleeves, which is horrible in this temperature. Unless i am staying in air conditioned places the entire time, i will sweat a lot and be very uncomfortable the entire time.

Cheers Brock. Great video. Any time I or someone else asks for style advice for skinny guys on r/malefashionadvice, it’s usually greeted with “hit the gym” or some other dismissive comment. Some people just don’t realize how hard it is even to find XS sizes in most stores.

Good advice, im a one layer shirt guy, v necks, Henley's all of them, I've had them tailored and havnt been to impressed with the diffrance. Is it my tailor ? Also I like dress shirts but I hat the bottom bag effect. I've tried having those tailored too. Any tailoring advice for dress casual, pull overs and button up dress shirts?

On the Henley Shirt, I would suggest a CUTS Henley. While it does have synthetic materials it feels and fits nice. I believe a small or a extra small should work.

Well thats good and all but not only i am skinny but i am also short and already have difficulties finding shirts and jackets that dont go over my hips making me look weak in the end. I notice some brands (like zara) have nice bobmber jackets with nice collars. I know technically its not "bomber style" but look very good. As a short and slim guy i like some without collars also . Because i like this clean sharp look .

Want to look more muscular? Simple geometry. Imagine you look like an upright cascet. How does can you make it look wider? Add to the width/length of the shoulders, reduce the length of the overall cascet (i.e. the length of your t-shirts etc.).

I've only just stumbled upon your videos as I'm revamping my wardrobe. Do you think there's something different in the cut of v-necks and henleys that makes them work less well compared to crew necks? Or do you think it's some other factor?

I think it’s basically a visual factor. The way the neckline of a v-neck or Henley shirt is cut visually emphasizes our breadth (or lack thereof.) For similar reasons, striped shirts can enhance or detract from your physical appearances too. Certain kinds of cuts or visual designs of a shirt or pants naturally draw the eye across the subject a certain way and fools your visual perceptions of the subject. There’s a whole science about how appearance fools the eye and mind or draws it to certain things that artists are aware of and are just as mastered at this as scientists and doctors are.
