@@erikhermansen3431 and you just need to cringe and realize we're all silly idiots. watch skinny pupy play Assimilate live in 1987. You'll notice something. headphones preferable. no phone audio, no distractions. no talking during the song. let me know what you saw.
I can't believe this song is almost 20 years old, now. I remember my goth girl roommate coming home with Greater Wrong of The Right and playing it for me like it was yesterday. I hadn't heard any Skinny Puppy in quite some time because I had gotten deep into the rave scene after my initial love for industrial (which never went away, I was just more focused on the dance culture). I was blown away by the album and immediately became a Skinny Puppy superfan. I went back and listened to all of their old material and fully appreciated the brilliance of the band. They toured for the album that year, and I caught them live for the first time at the House of Blues in Las Vegas. That sealed the deal for me. That show was incredible and I met a bunch of cool people there. I've seen them 5 times, now. Sadly for the last time in Denver last May for their final tour. Thanks to the Kevins and all of their collaborators over the years for all of the awesome music. RIP D.R. Goettel
I still can't believe how much shit puppy got for this song from their fans. EBM and old school Electro-Breaks go hand in hand. They are just from two different scenes. Musically they are hardly different.
exactly, the arrangements - especially in the percussions - are often similar! Even though a lot of 80s bands in the EBM and Industrial tend to have the kick/snare 4/4 stomp. i'm a big fan of 80s EBM and Industrial, but i also got an affinity for 80s electro funk and b-boy stuff. Arthur Baker, Hashim, Egyptian Lover, C-Bank, Aleem, Johnny O... Great!
What pisses me off the most about that is nin totally started doing that because of skinny puppy and they're celebrated for it while SP's still being shit on.
+Laila Autumn That's right. But NIN were always commercialised and had a way better connection to the mainstream than Skinny Puppy. So, whatever they did - the fans got their service. Still, i can understand your point. Unfortunately, a lot of people can't be objective at this point.
@@daredevilsixtytwo I have seen many live shows in my day and they were by far the best and in a smaller venue it was even more insane -- the practical effects were right out of Hollywood and they sounded so good and the band was so tight. My only regret... no idea where or what happened to my SP shirt form that show. Only other regret... time travel does not exist so I can't go back to see the show and buy a new t-shirt.
@@CKC411 absolutely nice! my favourite comment of all here, really wish I could have been able to see them long before this video was done, but, living in Germany I don't think they were here that often in the 80's
Man am I ever glad I’ve seen them twice. During this tour when I was a teenager and their final tour in 2023. Thanks SP for everything. You’ve changed my life. No joke.
Thank you, I was trying to remember what that style of dancing was called. I loved showing this video to my friends and we always laughed at that part. It’s like they saved the least-impressive dancers for the finale. I loved the way the bigger guy launched the smaller guy into action, though. 😂
Skinny Puppy was like no other. Their legacy remains even till today. This is the most underrated band of all time in my honest opinion..... Ruthless RoUx's authentic tru opinion......🎉
This is one of the greatest videos and tracks ever!! I loved Skinny Puppy before (warlock is my favorite to dance to)now, it's borderline fanatic with this video. Demons in goth clothing on the street straight battling with the B boys and krumpers!
This song is really fun and energetic and this music video is completely hilarious, I know at the time it was un-intended as humor but This is such a perfect snapshot of the early 2000's, if this was not preserved in such a way we'd have lost a little stepping stone in explaining what that time in North America was like :)
What makes you think it was unintended? I mean that, "Word" at the end cements it. It's like me at 60 wanting to smack the "bubbly happy goths" in their Hot Topic outfits. Who's worse me or them or you?
oh i think there is definitely a huge element of humour in this i mean, dude is mocking the goths with "zombie walk" in the beginning, and the "word" with the blazing eyes at the end was NOT intended to be humourous? i mean ogre is CANADIAN... lol plus the whole thing is awesome and funny as hell and a little bit cheesy i love it lol
@@robins5798 It's the most mainstream song they have, so of course, its the one people who've never heard of them are going to love. I don't hate it, I like it, but no, its the most commercialized track they have and its basically made for soundtracks.
lots of good bboys in this vid: Crumbs, Boo Rok, Bebe, Rainen, Enerjetic, Mosquito...not sure who the black dude is in the blue bandana but he's pretty sick too
I needed to hear this this morning! Oh yes! Okay, now on to "Smothered Hope" cause its that type of shit I'm on this am! Neighbors, do not call the cops, yes I'm blasting this at 7am!!
Even though this is a far cry from the symbolic and disturbing nature of Skinny Puppy's previous music videos, especially the most controversial Worlock, this is still very awesome and I do hope the edit of Pro-test used in this music video would release someday!
People who claim to be fans don't seem to get the meaning of 'experimental'. Ogre's work has always been experimental, which means he's going to branch out into different sounds and concepts, and not all of it is going to be their cup of tea. Ogre doesn't only like heavy industrial and metal, he likes synthpop too. They certainly don't know their supposed hero very well.
@@DozingGreen-fz6rg Agreed. SP has always been that industrial band reaching out for new ideas, but Pro-Test legit gave me vibes to Metal Gear Rising to be fair.
@@DozingGreen-fz6rg Ogre has nothing to do with the music. Nothing. The music is all Cevin Key and others. The music is finished before Ogre does the vocals. That's how Skinny Puppy works. Ogre doesn't "branch out into different sounds" at all. He does the vocals and that is all. YOU don't know your supposed hero very well, fella!
This video just helped me come up with the intention of nu metal: the union of different underappreciated genres formed into one. This is an industrial rock song with rapping and a video showing breakdancing. It's already expressing signs of industrial music, rock/metal, and hip hop, three common elements of nu metal. Whether or not people loved it or hated it, I think nu metal was at least an attempt in finding that middle ground. And yes, I still enjoy some bands of the genre.
Regardless of your totally reasonable opinion Skinny Puppy have been around for ever. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skinny_Puppy "Skinny Puppy is a Canadian industrial music[1] group formed in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1982. The group is widely considered to be one of the founders of the industrial rock and electro-industrial genres."
oooh how was i to know looking for skinny puppy videos they'd do us all so proud?? we (goth) had to come from somewhere, and here it's obvious the industrial, dying, disaffected cities where we lived were part of the same fabric we see other trends/growth coming from.. I never missed a show in charlotte when they were in town back in the 80s(i'm from NJ originally).and i'll never forget the impact their work played with the other bands who came to see them, as well.. Thank you!!!!
Gird your loins, fellow humans. We may soon be living in a world where this occurs on an almost daily basis. And we'll be ALL the better for it. :) I love this video.
The first time I ever saw this was when somebody shared it on fucking Live Journal and tagged the local industrial night DJ asking him to play it. Which he did the next time he spun.
Fucking hell!!!! Thanks for just having done what I wished I could have done a looong time ago had I got the knowledge/means ...perfect come back album for Skinny puppy. We all (us + the band) deserve people who do THIS .Thanks!!!!!

Dang it.... just found this at 2:30 am. Now I'm all jacket up. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO SLEEP NOW!!!!!!!!! THANKS ALLOT SKiNNY! I'm an old fat guy that can't dance. Guess I'll just have to go with it and work on my movie script. If these guys don't agree to do the soundtrack, I'm not making the movie.
I only ever knew late 80s/early 90s Skinny Puppy until seeing this video just now. I'm really glad the old stuff exists, because this is dreadful. None of the intensity of the old stuff, very much a product of its time. And it can be argued that the early 00s were a creative slump for western music.
In my next life I want to be an amalgam of all the goth breakdancers , grow up in downtown Los Angeles ( they say it In all American movies ) learn to Rap, beat Eminem in a stage battlke and just have insane amounts of street cred.
