We dont know how did the Spurs handled Kawhi's injury. Not to mention the media sides with the Spurs all the time, always pushing that Kawhi wanted to play in LA. The kicker is Kawhi did not speak even once all throughout the process

@@viperclive714 which is kind of the whole problem. He never said anything. Where is the leadership in that? He did was hurt but he was not on the bench during important games, and he never give assurance to his team mates who were relying on him. He was the number 1 option. And he just left everyone hanging. Last year there was this feeling that, "Come on guys lets just get to the playoff maybe by then Kawhi will return." It was like holding the fort just long enough until the cavalry arrive... everyone waited: teammates, coaching staff, and fans. We were all disappointed. He just did not return to the silver and black. His heart was no longer there. Say what you will about what went down between the organization and the Kawhi team, but at the end of the day he only played nine games and got all the second, third and forth opinions he wanted/needed. Okay so maybe Spurs mishandled it all, but Kawhi got his way in the end (got paid in full too). And Spurs wanted to give him the biggest contract in basketball allowed. If Kawhi really wanted to stay, all he had to do was to come to the table and talk. Like Tim Duncan did. Like LaMarcus did.

@@rasaecnai fans can say all of that. No issues with it. I just thought I cannot blame Kawhi if he chose to preserve himself over the pressure by the organization. Look at IT, he was supposed to get a max contract. Kawhi is a unique guy, maybe he felt betrayed by the Spurs as they are calling him publicly instead of handling the issue internally.

This one is shows that there's more to this whole topic than anybody on the outside nose all these people call Kawaii treater doesn't understand 10 string that professionals have to walk on. for example you don't want to publicly come against your team but you also you dont want to be taken advantage of by the very said team. so when he probably wanted to tell everybody hey this is what is happening in to me in San Antonio because of his professionalism he choose not to and did it this way instead. the public may not understand because they didn't have the full picture

My issue with the way Kawhi did it is that he clearly wanted out of San Antonio and that was his excuse. Dude didn't even show up for the playoff games as a by-stander. And it's clear he fractured his relationship with the now retired vets. It's your right to want to move on but just be up front from the get-go, which Kawhi and his camp weren't.

Though, I believe that if Kawhi said "I want out of Spurs" San Antonio Fan would have still labelled him Traitor. Agree, as a fan its hurt to see your best player left you, but on the other side, we must understand they are people like us. They got feelings and dreams to make themselves happy. And I believe Kawhi did what he think is best for him and his future. We just gotta move on with life and grow up, simple as.

I was disappointed too by last season like Skip, but circumstances makes you get over things. Spurs are actually playing better and DeRozan is turning out to be a really good fit. I would have liked to see the Spurs at full strength last year as well with its remaining original 3 go for a final outing, but it is what it is. I'm actually still more upset at Zaza for his dirty play the year before. If the Spurs were stinking it up right now, I'd probably still feel like Skip. But they managed to kind of make due and right the ship. They can still compete this year if guys continue to play like how they are playing. With that realization, I would have applauded Kawhi for his past accolades with the team because in the end, it didn't turn out so bad like expected. He did a lot for the franchise to receive the praise. You just don't have to root for him anymore. How Skip and the crowd reacted kind of makes DeRozan feel underappreciated. He is balling right now and affecting the team in a different way that makes them fun to watch.

I have to disagree with shannon on this one... most people keep thinking "Spurs fans forget what he did" or "If he played and left you would still boo him"... The main thing isn't that he left.. it's that for a whole year, we had done nothing but just wait. He was cleared to play. He played 9 games and basically held us hostage for a trade. If he played and left saying he wanted to leave it wouldn't have been nearly as bad as this. People want to say "well he won yall a championship" well duh we know that. There isn't a person who follows the spurs that didnt love him for that... but what do you do when a star player on your team doesn't communicate with anyone on the team or organization, refuses to play, keeping the team and the fanbase on edge with only the knowledge that hes been "hurt" for a whole year basically... I dont care which sport it is or what they have done... it's not okay to just abandon the team without any sort of knowledge... I would've been fine with him playing and then leaving if we didn't make it past the first or second round. It's still the players choice, I just hate how it all played out.

Don't minimize Kawhi's willingness to work on his craft. Yes, he benefited from Pop. But Jordan benefited from Tex Winter and Phil Jackson. As did Kobe. Dirk benefited from playing under Rick Carlise. Dwayne Wade benefited from Pat Riley. Great players usually benefit from being under great coaches/executives.

Whether you stand by Kawhi or by the Spurs, I don't think there's much denying that the way Kawhi Leonard, the superstar millionaire centerpiece of a basketball franchise, handled his departure from his place of business was downright disrespectful and unprofessional. No one said that he had to be Spur lifer, but there are ways to go about leaving the organization that groomed you.

In San Antonio, we are mad about how he left. He didn't say anything. He had people speaking for him. He was ducking and dodging the Spurs organization. Then he asks for a trade then leaves.
