The Yeti was pretty much the only car anyone would ever need. I agree! Skoda need to make a new Yeti.

They thought they had with the Karoq, but it hasn't sold as well as expected and will cease production later this year. Skoda dropped a mighty clanger when they ceased Yeti production. The car would easily have continued to sell well for many more years, having developed almost a cult following. Used, well looked after Yeti's are bringing silly prices now......

@@Brian-om2hh The Yeti was proof that you don't need an SUV. I couldn't understand why they killed a car that was so popular. Yeti was unique in the marketplace because it was so versatile. Let's hope Skoda have a re-think and bring it back.

@@alunjones2550 I never owned a Yeti, although I *almost* bought one. I had two Fabias and two Octavias...... Skoda - or someone within the company - clearly misjudged the market when they felt the Karoq would act as the Yeti's replacement. They took a chance and flunked it..... The Yeti was as close as you might get to an "all things to all people" type car, whereas the Karoq was/is more of a one size fits all anonymous SUV type car, albeit a well built one. It was/is devoid of the Yeti's character and niche appeal.....

A friend of mine recently bought a Yeti, as he wanted a small car, not an SUV but capable of carrying a big load in the back with rear seats taken out. I drove the car and was quite surprised at how good it is with its 1.2 engine and 6 speed gearbox. Slightly higher driving position than a Polo but underneath basically the same car. There is no other car like it, so hope Skoda bring out a new version.

We bought a Yeti this year - 2012, 1.8T 4x4 model with DSG. The transmission is a bit annoying, because it constantly tries to shift "economically", though you can shift it manually to avoid that. As for the car goes - it's just AMAZING. Lots of space, lots of super smart solutions, looks good, drives very solid, is super stable and most of all - reliable. Super happy with it.

Pete I have owned a dozen Skoda’s since 2000. A mk1 Octavia VRS ( awesome car) through a couple of Mk2 Octavia VRS wagons, various Superbs to what the wife and I currently drive a Kodiak and a fully kitted out 272hp Superb estate in Sportline plus spec. In all of that time through all of those cars nothing absolutely nothing has gone wrong or failed. All I’ve had to pay out for is services tyres and wiper blades. Truly fantastic cars. We could afford to run premium badged cars but cannot see the point as they just aren’t as good or reliable as a Skoda.

Great review Peter, but your Skoda jokes were mainly aimed at the Lada brand, Overall early Skodas definitely bullet proof in many ways, I should know after owning a total of four, 1 estelle 136, 2 skoda rapides and my final one was the mk1 version of the octavia Vrs. Skoda definitely came alive once the Germans took over and it has done nothing but improve year after year, modern day skodas are same quality as and German manufacturer, once again great review.

I recall these Škoda cars when I lived in the UK and Germany. They were…cars… I never paid attention to them until RU-vid came about. I like the old Citigo EV where one could DECIDE to use one’s phone for the infotainment display or just drive without it. That’s the BEST thing about that car. To drive a modern car WITHOUT having to pay attention to a nagging display and controls that have to be looked at sounds like paradise. If “they” dictate that my bicycles have to have infotainment displays…then I’m going to have to walk everywhere. Lol! This Škoda looks nice and goes well. People will like it.

Enjoyed that, especially as a 68 year old who has lived through Skoda revival first hand. Have posted something on your Twitter a/c with photos. I'm in Bavaria - in Autumn 2022 my wife & I wanted to buy two new SUVs & after a week in a rental Skoda Kamiq in June 2022, Skoda was our first choice, a Karoq & Enyaq. Sadly our local massive rural VAG dealership with 4 large, neighbouring showrooms for Audi, Seat, Skoda & VW were simply unbelievably arrogant in all four showrooms, which they could in a sense, given the desperate shortage of cars. We went 100 metres down road & simply based on excellent customer reception, bought a new fully loaded Nissan Qashqai on the spot and two months later I ordered a new fully loaded BMW iX1. Buying/owning a car is more than the hardware, a lesson German manufacturers need to learn. VAG is not alone, I am having some "arrogance" problem with BMW HQ Munich on OS9 introduction (not my dealer). The almost daily release of new Far East models in low service/maintenance EV market could become a serious problem if European manufacturers don't use their main weapon, the support & dealer network, which will give those frightened of the move to electric, more confidence. Good luck with Skoda project & greetings to my last home county, West Sussex (Petworth area).

We ran a 1.2 DSG Yeti for three years, a great car, with masses of character. We now run a 1.5 DSG Karoq and it's a lovely car but soulless with no character. Looking at the clays in the video it seems they'll be even less characterful than current Skoda's. You suggest Skoda is going through a second renaissance, but maybe it's a third. When the Yeti dropped out of the line up the Skoda character left the building. Skoda management may see what they unveiled as their way forward but I'm not sure their customer base sees it that way. As you said, bringing in a modernised Yeti would create a massive following but they need to get into the DNA of that car. Silly things like an upright rear door means you can fit a cube shaped dog crate in there which sloping rear hatches can't accommodate. I'm even thinking of chucking in our Karoq and looking for a late diesel DSG Yeti but they're hard to find. Sorry rant over.

So it's safe to say we like our Skoda's and in all the years we've owned one, only one had a breakdown and that was my first MK1 Octavia vRS when an ignition coil failed. The reputation of the Skoda brand is going from strength to strength and I still maintain they are one of the most underated brands out there, probably due to the badge snobbery, but that's just my opinion. In the time I've been around Skoda's (18 years now) I've driven and owened other makes of vehicle, I've always ended up going back to Skoda... I think that tells you someting, eh?

Amazing versatility & practicality for such a small car, & surprisingly good off-road too. I really liked the Skoda's that I had , both of them Fabia's. The ONLY thing that let them down was the dealer mistake and then the subsequent dealing with Skoda UK and how they didn't even seem to recognise how big of a mistake they had made and what they were going to do about it. In my case , a Skoda dealer sold me a really nice ( crappy colour , almost literally ) Fabia , BUT , they didn't sell it to me with a current MOT , which is in fact illegal. As a lot of you know , you get a lot of paperwork when collecting a new ( new to me , but used ) car AND I had asked that tthe MOT certificate be pout in the rest of the paperwork , to keep everything together. They did tell me at the first visit , when I had a test drive , that it was due an MOT ( in under a weeks time )very soon and they would do a new one for when I picked it up as it needed it. Forward wind almost a year later and I get a call from the dealer I'd bought it from , saying , would I like to go to them to get an MOT , as I didn't have a current MOT ! ! ! I immediately got on the phone to them and said "Pardon me , what do you mean , I don't have a current MOT ? " , the long and short of it was , they didn't issue me a new MOT , it had lapsed within a week of the test drive ( I picked up the car a week later ) and so I was driving a car with no MOT , which also invalidates the Tax and more importantly , Insurance. The dealers response was less than desirable , saying I had call Skoda UK if I wanted more than a "discounted" MOT and then when I rang Skoda UK , I was greeted with a very disagreeable woman ( same woman for at least 3 calls ) saying they couldn't and WOULDN'T do anymore than a discounted MOT. The dis count wouldn't have been worth my while , as the dealership was more than 50 miles away from me ( in the South East of the UK ) and the discount , along with the lost time to get there and back wouldn't have been financially or time wise viable. Now , how bad would it have been if I'd been involved in a serious accident ? I'd have had no insurance , tax or MOT , so , shouldn't have been on the road. I would've had my licence taken away from me for a LONG time ( I rely on my car for work , as I'm a tradesman ) and more than likely had a court case and compensation payout that I would've been paying for the rest of my life ! That for me was the ultimate sin , I'd never been treated so badly and been given a total brush off , by such a serious mistake and the dealer and the head office didn't give a "Flying Monkeys........" "IF" Skoda are going to improve things , especailly in the UK , then THIS is where they need to start. As PP has mentioned before , buying a car , is probably the second biggest purchase the someone is going to make and the dealers and head offices NEED to understand this AND think of the legal consequences of what they do. Forward wind to today. I no longer have the Fabia , as some ( insert appropriate word of your choice ) $*/%£ drove into it and wrote it off and I now have a different make of car and I vowed that I would never go back to Skoda and I didn't and I never will , unless they do something very drastic with their whole dealership and Headquarters setup , to deal with instances like this , maybe stopping this from ever happening again. This isn't a rant , this is a warning to others.

I tried a few different EVs and it gave great value against similar cars by other manufactures such as the ID4. Even if money was no object, it still would have been the car I bought. My only moan with any EV is no spare wheel. There must be a way a spare wheel can be included. Don’t give me any of that foamy stuff that isn’t worth my boot space! I’d love to meet you, often watch your videos. I’m a lady who loves driving so I like a car that I can actually be driven as well as looking beautiful and have all the right things in a the right places, which in the Enyaq, the cup holders should be moved around to the central portion rather than in front of my buttons for my climate and driving modes. Keep up the great work.

I well remember the past brand image - but I also remember the Skodas winning rallies in their classes regularly - I briefly went out with a lass who rallied one too! As I've mentioned before in comments on your channel I drive a three month old Enyaq iV80 Sportline - and I have to say it's a cracking car - it's not a Volvo, but it is as good as anything else I've driven and I'll be brutally honest, streets ahead of the Merc A class pool car I have had for the last two years in every aspect. I can drive briskly - I can enjoy steering on the throttle with rear wheel drive (not something I've had the pleasure of since my Volvo 740 days!). It will go down country lanes happily - but it will also with relatively little effort and a willingness to compromise slightly on temps and aircon (18C in winter instead of 22 for example) and a light foot, do every bit of the WLPT mileage. Indeed, in the current warmer temperatures I am exceeding the WLPT range with a mix of town, country and motorway driving. With good anticipation and proper driver concentration (as we should all be doing anyway....) it is easy to get range. I am fully expecting in summer temperatures and a test run, to exceed 400 miles range without too much of an issue. On the charging front, I charge at home mostly, like yourself and have not had the pleasure of public charging yet - but that's an industry issue not a Skoda issue. On the practicality side, a family of five has no issues - three across the back no problem - and it's a real pleasure to be able to go and do a month food shop without having to go alone and fill all the seats as well as the boot (thanks Merc!) whilst enjoying a comfy ride and a decent sound system. My favourite bit though is the sound levels. Being able to speak to my wife as quietly as if we were sitting on the sofa at home next to each other whilst driving at 50mph + is priceless, especially if like me you suffer hearing loss and struggle with background noise in ICE cars. Looking forward to seeing the next gen of cars from Skoda - along with the improved battery ranges of the next gen of tech coming in the next 18-24 months from the fabs.

Hi Ped another great video. We decided to buy a brand new Skoda last year as all motoring write ups on it we’re really good. The car was not the Infotainment system is so buggy to the point of total annoyance, you can’t even get station logos up when loading/adding new ones yet on a VW Infotainment it does. Spurious messages started to come up annoyingly on the driver display screen then disappear, found car also really underpowered for its size and auto box not as good as on a VW. It got so bad we got rid of it replaced with a Kia and what an absolute total difference and joy to have and everything just works. There still needs to be a lot more integration across the VW group something like for example the infotainment system should be standardised across all platforms.

Brilliant car, fast as well but economy not so great. Now on a MK3 SE 1.2 110bhp, as fast as the MK2 VRS,similar MPG but with £20 VED. Probably my last car as I don't like driving that much in the big city so I walk locally.

Have been a Skoda convert for 3 years now having taken on board all the Skoda jokes of the past. Having owned many different vehicles throughout my motoring years latterly mainly with Ford whom l found were quite a leader in all aspects of motoring advancement. I then started to look around as Ford took to long to produce a small family car with ample leg room, l also considered the new Mondeo but having the launch date repeatedly changed 3 years was the end. The Skoda of choice for us was the Karoq 2.0 4x4 Edition, which we have found to be brilliant in all it promised. The clay models you saw at the factory were simply that and are all subject to change, and l could not fully understand the point. I believe that Skoda and the VAG group generally are go ahead companies and will continue to surprise us in the future. I believe at this point in time that going fully electric would be unachievable and many major companies are still building vehicles with internal combustion power plants. There are too many questions yet to be answered . Electrically powered vehicles are simply another step along motoring’s rapidly developing history, with to much emphasis on Pollution and not enough consideration of the infrastructure. The electric motor l believe will just be another method of providing impetus for wheeled vehicles until the next type of propulsion system takes its place in time.

I got one of the first Fabia Estates in 2001, a 1.9Tdi. What a cracking little motor. Bags of go (100 bhp and a mountain of torque) and lots of practical little touches I hadn't seen in a car before, like the little clip on the driver's wind-screen pillar for holding a parking ticket etc, the folding hooks in the boot for carrier bags, the sliding storage cubbies under both front seats, and the little pockets on the side of the front seats, just big enough to take a mobile phone. I had that car for 4 years, before trading it in for an Octavia Estate....I went on to own 2 further Skodas after that.....

As the owner of a 2017 Skoda Rapid Monte Carlo, I gotta say I'm very happy with my choice! It's basically a VW Golf, but better with Skoda's touches. Plus, it's a lot more unique than the Golf, which appeals to me. I just hope the small cars Skoda are doing have a great range. Living in Australia, I won't touch anything with less than a 500km range. I regularly do an 850km freeway run between Sydney and Melbourne, and a 450km real world range means I can do it with 2x 20-80% charges en route, which converts to a 9.5hr trip door to door which is quite manageable but approaching the limit for a day trip.

Any Skoda is relatively rare down here in Australia. Their numbers are growing courtesy of the SUV range but I personally have a 2020 Octavia 110 TSI manual wagon. It's the first European car I've owned after three Toyota Corollas. I love it very much as it's role as a commuter car. I work night shift and my commute is 17kms each way. On the commute home in the very early hours of the morning I regularly see 5.2litres per 100kms. This stuns me. I do want to upgrade to an RS wagon one day but there isn't a manual option 😢

We have had 3 Skoda's. First up a Yeti, 2Litre diesel that I may have had a engine upgrade (remap) and that was SUCH a fun car, WAY better than the golf it was based on. Then as needed more room/tow capacity/off road ability (4x4 yeti HOLD their prices and are very rare) so a Superb Outdoor Plus estate 4x4......(A6 Avante with a few less complexities and a much lower price tag) as we now needed to tow and be ok if on grass. The latest is a downgrade for size and bills, a Rapid 1.2L petrol. Another under the radar car so little know but again a cracking car, fun to drive (MUCH lower powered than we used to but great as a runabout and as its a sport (few extra nice look touches as its NOT sporty at all) but a great driving car. Even 2nd hand they are stronger prices as more people are converted to this excellent Car maker.

I bought a new 2 litre diesel Superb in 2019 expecting to do 25k miles per year. Changes at work following COVID have meant less travelling so its taken 4 years to get there. I used to get new company cars every 3-5 years but opted out and bought the Superb with my own money. It's the best car I've had. Just back from Pickering to the south coast (321 miles). It did 67 to the gallon and I had well over 600 miles in the tank when I filled up before coming back (got diesel for £1.489, why is it over £1.60 in the south?!). I don't want to kill the planet but I'm going to stick to ICE for as long as I can. I've sat in an Enyak. It's ok but soooo expensive by comparison and no better appointed. I couldn't have charged it where I stayed and I'd never have made it back on one charge even if it were fully charged up. It took 6 hours to get back, how much longer if I'd had to stop a re charge? Anyway, I think there's a new Superb coming including a diesel. I'm already saving my pennies ... Also how really sustainable are electric cars? My Superb will probably end up as a 20 year old taxi with 200k+ miles on it. A ten year old Enyak will have limited range. Check out the auctions re electric cars now. Old Prius's capable of 30 miles? Hmmm...

VW played an ace card buying Skoda back in the 90's. Clearly, VW saw the potential in the brand, and decided to invest to the tune of millions. VW planned and built Skodas new production plant, and installed a fresh design team. The first car to come out of this was the Felicia, which was still heavily based on Skoda's old Favorit design, but with the rough edges smoothed out. The next car, the Fabia, really began to show what could be achieved, and was a huge seller. Today, Skoda are a strong mainstream brand, able to compete in many sectors, with a solid capable product.
