They are getting increasingly expensive. Palmetto State Armory gets Chinese Type 56 rifles in from time to time. I have a Type 56 made at Factory 26 in 1965.
For me, it's purely for historical reasons. Something special about holding a firearm that is about 50 years old (mine was built in the 70s). The Chinese SKS I have I picked up for $499 CAD (I'm in Alberta, Canada).
The Simonov has many virtues. I spent a whole decade 1989-1999 shooting the heck out of SKS rifles due to cheap imported ammo. I got an AK just before the so-called Assault rifle ban, but by then I was an SKS artiste'. I will always be good with one.
Well i am in the middle of purchasing my st SKS and its costing me 800bucks. Its a quite nice model but the country of origin escapes me right now? lol im old hehe No we cant have the bayonets on a semi-auto rifle but it still have the bracket if theres a way to remount one later? I dont plan oyt break any laws but im looking for land in a free state so quite soon i can fix or update a few of my rifles i wanted that had to be butchered before i could take possession of the transfer! :>/. But even though on an AR they have to cut off the bayonet lug, they dont have ot cut off the brackets for the mounting of the bayonet....? So that is better for me if ,one can be re-fitted? Yes/No hehe thanks good video bro!
May be a Chinese one you're looking at. A lot of those had the bayonets removed when they were imported. You *can* put them back on. I've never done it, but you should be able to find a video on it. Thanks for watching!
As long as the bayonet lugs are intact, you will have no problem installing a bayonet. However, some of the Chinese imports had the lugs neutered, like my /636\ from 1975. In that case, you have to replace the front sight base, which is pressed on and pinned. They are also really hard to find right now, in fact, the only ones I can find are for a Yugo which won't work. Good luck.
