Skull and Bones has an in-game shifting economy where you can buy certain items at a lower price and re-sell them at other parts of the map at a much higher price. The game highly incentivizes places to buy these commodities and work the market allowing them to grow their hordes of silver. I break down why most players shouldn't bother with this system and how there's much more efficient and easier ways to make silver.

Making silver in Skull and Bones is quite easy by doing many different activities. One activity which is exclusively put into the game to make silver is the shifting economy. Unfortunately the juice isn't worth the squeeze as buying low and selling high combined with high travel time isn't worth the time investment, nor is using fast travel to do fast item flips. There's simply better, more efficient ways to make silver in this game.

I'm thinking I just by anything that's cheaper as I go through the game and sell anything with green arrows, not intentionally smuggling but taking advantage when I can

Life as a merchant is hard. The prophet margins aren't very big. That's why I chose to be a pirate. I don't buy vanilla. I sink ships that carry vanilla and get free vanilla Or pillage the vanilla and get free vanilla

Problem with the trading, its a lot of effort when you can wipe a fort in 5 minutes for like 10-15k. Even treasure maps can give 6-9k. You can't buy enough of a resource for it too really be worth it going out of your way.

do i have to do the main quest btw? I am stuck on the main quest where you need to do the treasure map ( still fairly in the beginning ) can i do other stuff to grind faster?

If you are trying to farm money, I find the best way is farming the sainte anne bounty board bosses. They’re relatively easy and can get 5k-7k each time you kill them. You can also get lucky and get rare drops from the bosses that are way higher level than anything you can craft in the beta.

I have a few questions, even if i buy the game now am i still limited to 6 hours? Also on every item there is an orange box looking symbol with a number next to it, what does that number represent?

That's the cargo weight. You aren't limited to 6 hours in this test.

you get cargo by doing pirate thing then you put that in you storage and you sell it when you come accross a seller with a good price. your not suppose to do the legal trade

Since it's beta silver drops on wrecks and ships could be nerfed. I know I plunder for resources instead of harvesting

Yeah, that's one way to do it. You could also buy the stuff you come across that's cheap, store it, and as you 'progress through'/'play the game' you sell when the price is high. I don't see the need to fast travel just to sell. I've done around 24 hours in four days and finding the game more fun as I go, so maybe I'm just easy to please.

i think there is not enough different activities in the game rather then farming, bounty hunting, trading and fighting. I Think a giant map won't change anything if you do the same thing everywhere. do you think there will be more to do? because right now i'm scared i become burned out from the game after a few weeks.

Commodity trading the traditional way isn't profitable but what I do is just plunder ships endlessly let the commodities build up iny warehouse then sell them in bulk where the price is highest

I was thinkingno fast travel anyways. Why be a merchant and not defend my cargo? Have a little merchant fleet with escorts. And you make so much silver on the way.

I never fast travel. Have earned many silver from trade. Usually i just sit in a brandy or wine zone. I sold 97 brandy and i got 35.000 silver for 1 hour work. If i am like going to one side of the map for a mission or something..i usally buy shit and take it with me for extra income. Let me tell you this. For RP purpose without fast travel. Trading is fun for me. I do it for RP not because it is worth it or not. I live in the world i play in. I love sailing for 25 minutes over the oceans.

I like the economy. The fast travel isn't there to make you money, it's a money sink. The way you make money on trade is long-term. You buy all the cheap stuff, which makes you store it in the warehouse as you fill up with loot. At some point in the future, you stop at a port, and do some runs from a warehouse to a vendor for a boost of cash.

Most players warehouses are filling up by the 2nd day and lots of people have half a million silver not even 20 hours into the game.

played about 20 hours of open beta, it is good. but i see why people cannot justify the price of this game. essentially, this game is a mobile delivery simulator. the end game is identical to what you do in the beginning and during the early stages. hostile takeovers are exactly like the plundering of the outposts. waves of shipes until you sink them all. bounties are the same as end game just more difficult. the entirety of this game is like the GTA5 factories and deliveries. produce goods from either bought or stolen materials, wait till then are done, deliver them while being attacked the whole time. REPEAT. that is THIS game. just at a much slower pace. everything just feels the same from the beginning to the end. there isnt enough variety to enjoy long term, because its ALL THE SAME, sorry to say. NO EXPLORATION OF ISLANDS. NO LAND COMBAT. NO VARIETY IN MISSIONS. NO CHALLENGES. NO IMMERISION. NOT AT ALL REWARDING. this is a very expensive and high-end mobile game.

don't make a special trip..just toss commodities in your cache and sell them when you're in a profit zone for a contract

Silver becomes a non-issue by the third day. Like literal millionaire. Storage space in the warehouse however becomes an issue.

You're not supposed to really try and be a regular merchant. It's a pirate game. You're supposed to steal it and sell it, not buy it😅

This just sounds like a good way to avoid fast travel selling abuse. Though the free loot from other ship battles need to be fixed.

Why does it even cost anthing to fast travel? It's not like you're taking a train or a taxi. You are literally using your own ship. It doesn't make sense, the map is huge, and sailing from one place to another takes forever and not to mentioned super boring

@SwoleBenji honestly AC black flag, even with its issues, is more immersive. I will continue to give the game it's chance and maybe I'll change my mind. Just wasn't keen on the concept vs final product
