This exploit has really show cased exactly what Star Citizen needs to push player to player interaction. It needs really cheap resources in one place, with a select few places where you can transport and sell those resources for a GOOD markup. Only having Stanton is definitely a hurdle to that, hopefully when the new system is in there will be more of that. They really need to take advantage of the idea of a select few places where it is profitable to sell, to really drive players into contacting each other.

I really hope they see how much activity this bug brought to the verse, and rather than fix it completely, just tune it to be a bit more balanced. Trading needs to be much more profitable vs the costs involved than it currently is.
@@aydointergalacticcorporati698 So you like trading making peanuts? Lawful trading has about a 10-25% profit margin, for an enormous capital investment. How can traders be expected to make a living while also needing to pay crew and potentially protection down the line?
You know that is how we got jumptown right. A bug which caused a crate of drugs to repeatly spawn, in a little place called jumotown. Now its a server wide event. I expect this may result in some positive feedback.

The range of the Quantum Dampner is a mere 2k radius (4k bubble around ship). The target that got away was about 5k away when they jumped. One of the reasons why people fly the Mantis is that,despite being made of paper, in Quantum SNARE mode, the radius is 10k (20k bubble), pulls targets out of QT and ALSO prevents jumping away. The downside, of course, is that the Snare will eventually overheat but the Dampner will not. Better Power and Cooling help with the longevity (or used to, haven't tested that bit in 3.18 yet).
The 3.18 drug rush generated some of the most fun organic content I've ever played in SC. Hot take: if the exploit is what gave me this game play, don't patch it out.
When you're moving cargo ship to ship with two or more people have one person just launch them at the cargo bay of the other and the stackers can just grab them out of the air and stack them. You have much less opportunity for box torping. Obviously you figure out the speed so they just coast and will stop in space if nobody grabs it in time. You can get a rhythm and move them super fast. In atmo you only have to scary stack them from the other ship way though. We figured this out when transferring 140 RMC boxes because they were "stolen" from my buddy's vulture.
Awesome Vid, as always a concise update on what's going on with Star citizen. As well as top notch gameplay every time. (Sound is great, too) Don't let another person tell you your flying is not on point. I'm seeing clear concise situational awareness, Targets called And clearly identified ship hulls. All while avoiding gunfire and missiles. Anyone who complains at this point is just a showboat pilot. You are also squad leading the crew, as well as coordinating targets with other ships or squad members. Those are all the key skills I would look for in a squad leader for mil sim shooters, like Arma and Squad. These are also all the skills I would look for in a EVE pilot when recruiting for PVP. Those skills are much more important to your survival, than doing barrel rolls around the station out of combat. Or pulling of super fast landings. anyone who works actual dangerous work knows, slow and steady wins the race. Don't sell yourself short on the piracy, you have all the skills you need.

I suspect that the incentive for players to trade will have fallen off sharply following the news of the wipes but i have no doubt we'll get the opportunity to do this again in future :) cant wait!

Absolutely love this, really happy to see the gameplay so vibrant and player focused right now! I can't wait for an easy way for players to send out distress beacons, and for an indication of whether a ship is charging their quantum drive. But As it is I have been having SO much fun getting pirated, escorting smugglers, and even pirating once myself. Loving all this right now!
After some experience with both mining and drug running, I've found that any mined resource will have the white boxes with blue compliments, whereas the drugs will have white with black compliments.
At least until 3.19 or so, you can verify who is onboard using the comms menu -> ship group to see the list of players. Useful to avoid feeling paranoid or having to check every nook and cranny when you commandeer a ship or if you're worried someone snuck aboard your own ship. Edit: wrote the comment RE the C2... never mind, as you checked on the Connie. 😊 That bug is fairly rare most of the time, thankfully
When transferring in space, you can greatly increase the speed of transferring cargoby letting them drift into the gravity well of the other ship. My rental period on a connie ran out, and I had to rent another one - I was able to transfer multiple boxes across between the cargo bays at once using this method, making it considerably faster than tractoring each box the whole way. You did mention risks, but it's probably easier to propel a box into someone in a beam, whereas with floating, once they get into the gravity well, they just drop and stop.
Well done Kate! TF Charlie has also been doing our part in keeping Stanton clean xD This has been some of the best gameplay I've ever experienced in SC. It's like system-wide JT. I hope that once they fix this they will remember all the amazing emergent gameplay that results when there is ample incentive within the player economy.
a friend and I have been doing this a bit too. I didnt know about the exploits so i was trying to just buy the stuff like normal, but none of the terminals seemed to be working. so we had a lot of fun just soft deathing stuff and taking it.
Nice entertaining video! Looking at it from both sides, I think that one of the first Caterpillars that you and your crew engaged, the group of them had the right idea but they didn't do very well defending. They most likely need to employ some better type of tactics better defend themselves. As for the mechanics of the game, I feel like the doors on these ships are far too easy to damage and open. It would be more challenging if ship doors could only be opened by an enemy from either a special tool/device, hack or special weapon. Maybe that's the plan later. Anyway, thanks for the video and the excellent music choices that you edit your vids with!
Excellent video, love player-driven interaction like this, even if it started from an exploit. Very jumptown-esque. Though I like how it (seems to be from your video) is several places at once, creating the potential cat-and-mouse game. And like the idea of having a "pirate base" (cargo ship) out in space to offload the ill-gotten goods.
Hi Kate! I see that first taste of piracy with that Vulture last week turned into a serious hunger to pirate! I loved the pirate content. This patch has made this gameplay so fun but I'm a 30009 Error and tried everything and can't even access the menu in 3 days. This is just a week after my 40000 Error.
Certainly seems to suggest that making trading more lucrative in general (if not outright wildly bugged like here) is a good idea for driving more of this kind of emergent gameplay.
You could try self-destructing your ships as to not alert people to your location. The timer is rather generous for most ships that aren't the Hercules series. Also all these cargo boxes really show the need for the 32 SCU boxes...

I remember when I was first like "wait a minute, I didn't pay for a full SCU but it gave me one!", tested it, uploaded a bug report, and the next day EVERY salvage center was backed up during my normal runs. Who can blame me for starting to steal ships? 🤷
wish this exploit stayed, its creating more interesting gameplay than standard loops (its pretty much a jump town but at multiple locations and easier box buying)

Have you ever hijacked a NPC and put him in another location. Just to see what it will do there. Will A guard still attack a ninetail on a bare piece of desert? Away from the place they were taking from.
How do you not get crime stat for killing others? So dumb we can't sell cargo directory from stolen ships. All the game needs to do is shift permission to you as the new owner of said cargo/ship Makes no sense to me Very tedious to move all those boxes, hats off to you guys for your patience
In Olli43's most recent video he targeted/saw a 2949 BIS Cutlass that was on the ground on Daymar and later he had a short dogfight with Artax941. I was wondering if it was your Cutlass. It appears that it was, but there wasn't a name attached the Cutlass in his video. I wonder if he saw it before or after it got stolen?
Yeah we knew he was up there - I asked Artax not to kill him because I wanted him to land so I could kill him. He came low to the ground but didnt land. flew away instead. Second time we let him live haha :D next time though
Omg I just realized, when the guy who's Connie you stole asked where his ship was I was on the same server and iirc I was doing a medical rescue. Pretty neat Edit: I also heard from some people about a person or a group of people doing some shady things/grieving at brio's broker yard and that I should stay away from there.
Such a bad design on that Antares. It needs a co-pilot to use its special features, but that's all the 2nd PC can do. The rear seat technically has 2 "buttons" only, with almost no view what's going on. Hope they gonna add some trainable pets one day...
@@Citizen_Kate Yeah, me neither. There are plenty who have legitimately ground out aUEC. You have to feel sorry for them. Plus, as you've shown, the emergent gameplay in these situations is pretty cool. Maybe we can get CIG to turn this bug into a semi-permanent feature like JT 😂
I'm hoping they don't penalize everyone for the people using this exploit and revert the aUEC back to what everyone starts with. I have legitimately made over a million aUEC trading Laranite and Titanium in my Carrack without using the exploit.
While this gameplay is fun in the short to meduim term it will kill off the player base as no one will be arsed to lose everything to pirates, why in the world would you after losing your cargo for a third or fourth time go back out. In the end all that will be left is pirates. CIG need to be careful that star citizen dosen't turn into a pirate sim.
I actually don't think this is the problem you imagine it will be. your outlook on it assumes pirates and traders exist in a vacuum - where the end goal is an interconnected system of gameplay styles that includes security/escorts as well. not to mention players gain experience over time and after even one or two encounters any sensible player will have picked up better practices to minimize putting themselves in undue risk. The 'pirates will take over' theory assumes that traders are going to be terrible players. When in fact, all players improve from the challenges they encounter. You're in good hands John
@@Citizen_Kate A lot of what you say assumes that players, particularly new ones will stick around long enough to endure this gameplay loop. There is very little in the way of mitigation against this mechanic as most players are not in groups. Most players eschew orgs and prefer to play within their small groups of friends. I mean you can barely get anyone to turn up to a rescue beacon for fear of being ganked which of course negates its raison d'etre. In my 8 years playing Star Citizen I've seen CIG lurch from one unfished gameplay loop to the next, they seem to focus in on something to the detriment of all else, then up sticks and move on to something else. I honestly cannot see this symbiotic relationship between pirate and cargo runner ending up well. It isn’t really about skill it’s about this will wear thin quick.
i disagree that solo and small group play is the norm. i think the game is only going to become ever more reliant on org membership by sheer virtue of the scale and complexity involved. you are acting like players don't like adventure. maybe the older players who just collect ships but are too afraid to rack up some losses to learn to play better or plan better. but the majority of players WANT adventure. and challenge/danger is a part of that experience. We never get pirated ourselves for example because we know that when trading, you don't fight the battle in the form of combat. your fight is in the planning. its a different skillset but easily learned if one just overcomes that initial fear and goes out to improve. plan correctly, and you avoid 90 percent of the easy mistakes. the new players you mention making the mistakes - you think they will not learn? do YOU give up that easily? I don't think so. you need to give new players the same credit you'd give yourself to appeal to a wide audience the game needs to be exciting and offer experiences and challenges other games do not. you want safety? down the line there will be high security systems for your to spend your time in. i mean even pretty soon Stanton will end up safer because Pyro will be the new Wild West where we who prefer violence will spend our in game lives :) you seem to want a calm and placid experience. THAT would kill the game. CIG are building something exciting that can cater for all. Hire some security or build an org. you'll enjoy it i promise.
