Why don’t automakers include a lifetime warranty with their lifetime fluids?

because there's no such thing as lifetime fluids. it's a marketing scam.

Because the average owner doing it themselves screw up the tranny more often than helping it. Adding to much, adding the wrong fluid, using tranny flush, etc. If it was so bad, why are there fewer and fewer issues compared to cars 15-20 years ago?

GM openly admitted the issues sooner and addressed them. Even going as far as having a stop sale at one point. Also the trucks affected were in the single digits in most cases and not many more on other issues. Solution on the motor issue was a complete replacement. Yeah your theory doesn't work because if it did and this company made transmission for everybody all the other manufacturers will be having problems with the 24s as well but it's just Toyota imagine that this is what happens when people don't do homework and research before they buy stuff!!! When I took one out for a test ride there was way too many warning signs whenever I would hit a bump the hood would start to move very cheap very tiny on a little bump that's how thin the Hood was warning sign number 1 never seen that in any vehicle in my whole life warning sign number 2 the whole dash was 100% very very cheap plastic and I mean cheap it looked like the interior was made for a little kid's toy when you touch the plastic it was all hard other pieces of plastic would move the whole dash was all plastic everything was even the door everything would move the piece is just snapped together like a Legos just absolutely garbage never ever in my lifetime scene something built so cheap and ugly!!! So those two things I had mentioned those were two warning signs so I took those very seriously if these two things are going to happen and they cut the cost on these two things making them cheaper than I've ever seen any vehicle in my lifetime the warning was what else did they cost on what else did they make cheap quality obviously that's not the only two things, now we're here and about transmission problems rear axle in front axle problems so I was right!!!! They didn't stop at those two things when it came to building a cheap they made the whole truck cheap I'm glad I took those two warnings very seriously because buying one of these is not a mistake you want to make!!!! Quality control when right out the door !!! This thing should not have hit the market!!!

I think a lot of the negativity is coming from people who own the competition, Toyota owners have contently said how superior their vehicles are to other manufacturers, I have owned GM vehicles, Subaru vehicles and presently have an F150 with the second gen 2.7 and have had great reliability with all of them. Putting 300,000 miles on a GM and a few Subaru's. With the number of vehicles that the manufactures produce, there will always be a small percentage that will have an issue, the concern is how quickly can it be addressed, and the vehicle given back to the customer in a timely manner. At this point I would not purchase a Tundra or Tacoma truck until the problems are solved.

Actually, the rust issue was more on the C channel frames. The real issues is that they would rivet doublers inside the C channel and water would sit between the doubler and frame and accelerate corrosion. The later years of the Tacoma had a bead of sealant on the top edge of the doubler to help keep water from getting in between the two where the earlier ones did not.

Tim, there are likely many reasons Toyota is experiencing a rough patch, but the consumer must remember the vehicles on the market today are among the most technically complex in the history of the industry. Not by choice but due to regulations and consumer demands for a myriad of features. Mr Car Care Nut discussed this recently and he is correct. This doesn't mean that they cannot be made better but with this added complexity it will take even longer to reach a stable level of QC. There is no getting around this.
@ejesoriginal
@ejesoriginal 3 месяца назад
Tim, on the topic of the transmission cooler, it isn't necessarily the worry that the temp is going to ruin the fluid or it's lubrication properties, it is the concern that the increased persistent heat the transmissions parts (gears, seals, solenoids, etc) are going to be bathed in over years will reduce the life of them and the long term reliability that these transmissions have been known for.
@4af
@4af 3 месяца назад
Exactly. From the 1970's - early 2000's Toyota 3, 4 & 5 speed auto transmissions had fluid temps in the 130-175 degree range during most driving conditions, hence gear, seal, solenoid, etc. life was measured in multiple decades and multiple hundreds of thousands of miles. Then with the introduction of 6 speeds and WS fluid, fluid temps rose to the 165-195 degree range and the current 8 speeds run temps of 185-205 degrees and transmission failure is routine around 130,000 - 190,000 miles unless the owner gets on an aggressive fluid change interval schedule.

I have yet to find information about transmission parts having less life due to the higher temps.

Let me be very, VERY clear. Transmissions now run at higher temperatures. I have not seen that correlated with transmission parts failing. Overheating the transmission for long periods of time should cause parts to fail.

Honestly, by a Jeep Gladiator. Albeit not perfect but its one of, if not the best buy right now. Overall a very good truck with no turbo tuning issues and a VERY good transmission.

ALWAYS never buy the first year of the model PARTICULARLY for Toyota They do fix the vehicle but give it a year. AND for the low sales really on ALL cars' PEOPLE have no money so this is going to continue for at least a year and then the election....

My brother is a transmission specialist. When I found out my Tundra didn’t have a trany cooler l was upset. The sticker said it did. My brother told me not to worry that just what you said the new trany fluids are designed for higher temps. Just change it more often is your using it doing a lot of towing. I live where summers are regularly 110 and I tow. So I change it every 30k. No issues.

However, many internal components, such as the O-rings and solenoids, fail sooner proportional to the heat.

@@jamesemanner9671 I would think the same. Toyota pulled off their transmission cooler for a few years. I’m going to be curious to see what kind of reliability reports we hear from that decision. Well, the phrase "High Strength Steel" is a marketing (gimmick) term that means Nothing, just like the marketing phrase "Aircraft Grade Aluminum", mean NOTHING. There are soo many types of steel and so many values for Ultimate KSI & Yield KSI, and so many different heat treatments, that it is just BS, same with aluminum and stainless steel. So if you want to pretend to be a Mechanical Engineer, you should learn about things like the exact type of steel (AISI 4140) with the Ultimate & Yield values, and Moment of Inertia, and bending stress, torsional stress, and last but not least Von Mises combined stresses. Then you might not look like a marketing guy being paid to promote a product.

About to buy one today. Not too worried. Gonna drive it like I mean it. My dealer ship gives a lifetime warranty on the power train so…if something happens eh it’s covered. It’s a new generation things are bound to go wrong. People complain about the engine…yes they should have made an optional v6 but it drives great.

Here's the thing with all the videos on any vehicle. They are like azzhole everyone has one. This world has become a world of likes, views, and click bait. Yes every manufacturer has recalls and problems. I come down to how they handle the problems. To some my 2012 GMC 5.3 is a big piece of junk and others think it's the best truck ever built. We must remember that cars and trucks are imperfect machines built by imperfect humans.

Come on Tim, there's Tacoma's starting to stack up on dealer lots. They aren't short on supply, they're short on buyers. Toyota gave these trucks an insane price increase, they're no longer competitive, and apparently their reliability has taken a major hit. People have noticed. I have a 2024 Tundra and I'm very disappointed in the interior quality of my truck. My center console rattles like a Krylon can, my driver seat plastic trim is broken, multiples rattles inside and out, and the infotainment system is an abomination. I have 9K miles on it. At least my engine bearings haven't failed yet. I know you have to keep your Toyota overlords happy, but sometimes the truth needs to be told. Toyota quality and reliability were ditched in favor of massive profits.

And as long as you apply this same logic to all brands then I have no problem with your defense of Toyota. However, just as many are jumping the gun on trashing Toyota you might be doing the same on defending them. Time will tell the truth. As for trying to explain frame strength and what is versus what isn't acceptable you're wasting your breath. Every guy on the internet thinks he knows better than the engineers even when they have no idea what the frame thickness is on the truck they prefer. The C-channel frame was never an issue from a strength perspective as it is the same type of frame used on almost all commercial trucks including semis. Instead, it was Toyota's solution to rusting frames and keeping the weight down. The previous gen Tacoma's were boxed in the engine bay though. One frame engineer not associated with Toyota stated that although c-channel frames were not weak they were harder to model for crash testing. Boxed frames have issues with greater vibration transmission to mounted components and the passenger compartment so the c-channel was also Toyota's way of not having to engineer around those issues. Even though other brands have done so successfully for decades. As for the idiot who thought he would weld in panels to his boxed frame holes, heck, tell him to go for it. But first he may want to check literally every other box framed truck on the market and then check every commercial or heavy duty truck on the market. Where he will find both plenty of holes in boxed frames and plenty of c-channel frames far stronger than any light duty boxed frame truck has. Some folks you just can't help.

This is hilarious. This guy just wants to keep getting invited to upcoming Toyota events. Everything you described that Toyota is taking away because “better fluids” because “stronger steel” never mind that high strength steel has been used in cars for years already… is the reason why Toyota was known as the reliability king… because they would overbuild vehicles… now they’re doing what every other manufacture does just ‘the bare minimum’ to get it past the powertrain warranty… they have been going in this new direction for a while and example that comes to mind is Tacoma rear drum brakes every other vehicle on the road except for the very cheap like to be cheap mirages and Honda fits have rear disc brakes. Toyota decided to stick with a cheaper design and give their buyers none of the savings they actually increased the cost from the prior year…

Other advantage of buying early model year vehicles -- you get the longest possible stream of OEM parts for the life of the truck. There's parts I'm starting to have trouble finding for older vehicles (15+ years old), and these are not shitmobiles. These are 200k+ mileage daily drivers that will have stuff fail from time to time. There comes a point when you can't get the OEM supplier parts and you're stuck with some Dorman crap.

You go buy a new truck for the warranty availability but then get mad at the manufacturer when you have to use the warranty.....that makes sense. So if you hate toyota now then what you gonna do? Go buy a big three rig that is NOTORIOUS for transmission failures? Good idea..

Dude, you are out to lunch. Manufacturer's cannot make changes to the vehicles that would make it different from it's certification. You can't just decide you're going to make a change to a vehicle that would add or decrease it's weight. I work for a car company. When we certified one of our sedans we did it without floor mats. We could not add floor mats to any of those cars because it changed the weight of the vehicle. Just floor mats. You can't just decide hey we want this truck to make more power. Just crank the boost on the turbo. You can't do that.

You might not be able to find the "wheresneutral" guy if Toyota had the video already taken down. They did this with techs who posted videos of the tundra engine failures. Toyota is in damage control.... Tundra has been out two years now and still suffering from some of the original issues when released... There is no excuse for this.

Moving the Tacoma from Texas to Mexico was a mistake. They won't have the quality, fit & finish, etc.. That plant is new and it will take time for it to get it working properly. The fact that it's a new model only complicates that plants issues.

If i remember new Ford Broncos and C8 corvettes were blowing motors when they were first produced yet i dont see anyone on here still mentioning that? Are people that forgetful? I see those two cars all over so id imagine they fixed their issues? Its over sensentionalized clickbait to get views for the tacoma so far, but i understand it with the tundra being recalled that is a serious issue.
