I Just Purchased This Scope 3 Weeks Ago And WOW!!! Just Amazing! I Just Love It! With The Field Flattner And A Explorer Scientific 9mm / 100° AFOV, I Stayed Out All Night And Will So For Many Years To Come. Although A Primary Astrophotography OTA, Just Using It For Visual Cannot Compare To Any Of My Other 9 Scopes.

Rollie - how are you finding the edges though? 100 AFOV with an F6 scope, I wouldn't expect flat to the edge fields...

Very Cool. Clear skies mate! I was reluctant to buy a Sky Watcher scope but it's the best scope that I have ever purchased. It's my new baby! :-)
@davepastern
@davepastern 6 лет назад
the brand has been unfairly maligned in the past imho. Optically, they've always been pretty good, but the mechanics has lagged behind...I think they're working very hard on improving the mechanics and it shows. It's still not quite to the same level as the top tier brands, but to be fair to SkyWatcher, their scopes are significantly cheaper than a top tier tak etc. Where SkyWatcher still needs to work hard imho is on QA.

Trevor nice review. Question for you and all subscribers. I have had a Esprit 100ED since April. With 55 mm of back focus using a ZWO 183mc pro camera, to get focus I have to rack it out to 625mm to get any focus. I use a Bahtinov mask, get the correct star diffusion, remove it, and never can get clear images. How can I tell if the reducer is bad? Would there be any benefit to spacing out the reducer from the OTA? To reduce how far I have to crank it out?. ( reduce possibility of clipping something) Also how about removing the flattener entirely. I have three scopes and so far this is a dud. Skywatcher tech support isn't very helpful. Regards, Mike

Oh hey Trevor, i have a question for you, how has the forest fire smoke been treating you over in Ontario? I've been watching the smoke maps and it looks like the huge plumes and puffs of smoke from BC tend to drift across Canada, I wonder how bad it is by the time it reaches you. I've sure been screwed by the smoke, havent gotten a single good photograph this summer, especially brutal considering I'm sitting on my first autoguider ready to be used. Hope the clear fall air arrives soon for the both of us!

I've checked the included extras for this scope in the UK and it does not include the field flattener.
@jamiermathlin
@jamiermathlin 6 лет назад
That's correct, I had to purchase mine separately at around £150, but it did include the 48mm adapter ring, and canon adapter, additional adapters for NIKON and Sony are also available, I have the Sony adapter and use my A7Rii on it, and the pictures are truly stunning.

Esprits in the US include all the accessories you see in the video, this does affect the retail price of the scope however.

Great unboxing. Man, I'd love to have that scope! Also, nice touch on the popping sound at 2:53 when the ball pops out again. That made me chuckle. On a side note, "Esprit" is French for "Spirit" and is pronounced «Es-pree».

Purchased the same telescope approximately 2 1/2 months ago partly based on your review. Ran into some quality control issues which FLO out of the UK never picked up from they’re bogus “ test and tuned” claims. The front objective lens was completely covered in metal filings from the manufacturing process. Luckily I was able to remove them and clean it up. When I went to install the eaf recently half of the screws holding the focuser on were completely loose. Overall good telescope…really enjoy it but very poor quality control for a $4k item 😯

Hey Trevor, A little late to the party here but that must have been a scope that's been around the block once or twice. Reason I say that is because the case on that was bent outwards on the sides, hope the scope itself was not damaged but the case certainly was.

Hello Trevor. I have this telescope for a few months and I am delighted with it. I must say that the first unit they sold me had a problem with the stars, an artifact that appeared in the brightest when it was cold. The second unit seems correct. The main problem I see is the box. You can not transport the telescope with the rings attached. That does not happen in the case of 120. I had to buy a custom box to transport the Esprit ED100 with the rings on. Otherwise just say that it is a superb telescope.

Dumb question: Can you just use the thing looking through the eyepiece with my eyeballs -- the old fashioned way? I have little interest in astrophotography as opposed to just watching the sky live. Thanks and nice video. Edit... doesn't really matter... at $2500 probably not going to be in my house. Still checking on the Explore Scientific. Seems more affordable for sure. I know... affordability is relative.

Hi Trevor! I also have the Esprit 100ED here at home and are getting great pictures with it and my DSLR. Up untill now I havent been using a bahtinov mask but I'm in the marked for one, and was wondering where you bought yours if you use one for this telescope. I have read some reviews etc. online and people are complaining of wrong sizes of the ones they bought and was just wondering if you have any recommendations for which one I should purchase for my Esprit 100ED. Thanks and keep on making videos, they are great!

Great unboxing video! I bought the ASI294 pro imager used and I'm considering purchasing this scope. Have you used the 294 on this scope? The manual says I'll need custom spacers to obtain the correct focal length from the flattener when using CCD's. Just curious what size spacers you used if any. Great vid. Thanks again!

@bennethos

Can't wait to see the reviews as this is the scope I own :-) and my very first. I have it mounted on an EQ6 Would like to see you attach a zwo camera on it as I could not get focus without the diagonal. Another thing I find annoying, I could not mount my guide cam on the finder scope, threading is different. So basically am thinking of upgrading it with a skywatcher evoguide 50mm. My base plate was black and not green. Pictures of some of the cases show wheels, my case like yours did not have wheels.

Great video , I bought this scope last year. Picked it for it's quality and because it works with full frame DSLR. It’s a great scope that I hope will last me a lifetime. I love it for visual but it comes alive connected to a computer via eqmod for complete remote control astrophotography. Also great for beginners (like me) as it’s so wide field, doesn't need much cool down time and doesn't need to be collimated.

I’ve been using this scope for a few months now. Works very well with a CGX mount and a ASI071MC Pro cooled camera. Perfect stars right to the edge. Only problem I’ve had was the rings being a little too loose which meant the tube could slide a bit. A few pieces of felt tape fixed that though.

Most of us find home viewing very limited. Trees, houses, light pollution in general and specifically from neighbors who are so impressed with their own homes that they stick vanity lighting all over them. 45 minutes to the darker skies for me, not bad, but once you're there, no ducking inside for video games while the scope is taking photos.

prolly better off with a much longer focal length for planetary imho Rollie...100m @ f6 is only 600mm... Astronomics is coming out with some f12 cassegrains, they sound promising. Then there's maksutovs from Intes Micro that have very good reputations. Of course, SCTs (8" Celestron edge as an example) are probably best bang for buck. Cassegrains can be tricky to collimate I believe (never had one), but maks and SCTs are supposedly easier (never had one of either of these either)!
