@@sng3939 Craig didn't humanise him at all. Craig turned Bond into a superhero. These rapid cut fight scenes are like a low rent Jason Bourne clone. He's a good actor but not the best Bond
When Judi Dench played M in Goldeneye, her character was initially suspected of being too soft and cautious for the job, and not willing to send an agent on a mission if they might be killed. I know it's technically not the same timeline, but her character has come a long way since then. Now she's considered to be too reckless with agents' lives!
@@hill1629 disagree. Casino Royale is a good movie and there is certain things I like more than in Skyfall. But this movie has way more beautiful shots.
@@dr.bighead5793 nah Casino Royale has a lot more replay value and it’s incredible to think it’s 15 years old. Sky fall is good but I feel it was overhyped as the best bond movie ever back in 2012 and it was pretty good but CR is much better possibly one of the best action movies of this century
Another reason to love this scene: it was filmed in John Barry's old house in Cadogan Square, London. A silent tribute to a wonderful composer of film music.
“We’re under attack. And you know we need you.” “Well, I’m here.” This is the best version of Bond. A broken, tormented, mess of a man, who is bounded by honor and service, yet will never leave a job half-finished. He is waiting for the time when he can bow out, after his job is done, all while hoping to find some semblance of peace within himself, but not knowing what that looks like or when that will be. Craig’s Bond was absolutely brilliant. I hope it can be topped by the next person, but I doubt it will.
This scene conveys so much character and meaning. And indeed, details like M recognizing Bond by his silhouette is pure class and intelligence. Craig and Dench were magic in this movie.
@@ariqsyafwan4987 I heard Pierce Brosnan was originally suppose to reprise his role as 007 in Casino Royale but was fired weeks before production began.
Credit to Daniel Craig here. He truly looks like he is down and out. The rough stubble, the bloodshot eyes, the pale complexion. This is a Bond barely keeping it together and the failure of the following tests MI6 put him through are believable. Often you get the ''hero'' in a dark space but it rarely sells, i.e., see Brosnan supposedly tortured for months in North Korea in Die Another Day and yet he looks fresh as roses soon after. Here though, it works. Bond feels, not finished, but hanging by a thread.
Depends on the bar. I saw this bar and thought the same but you have to really think. If it’s windy will it feel windswept, without wind there will be mosquitoes. The co start cleaning, sand, dirt and salt water means your always having to fix floors and if you can’t get a delivery down to the beach you got to lug boxes of alcohol to the beach. Also running water is important cause without it nothing is cleaned right😅
One of the few moments if not the only moment were bond's jaw was dropped when M told him they sold his flat was great. I really felt that when I saw it in theatre💯
Despite that James was hurt and that M usually has a cold attitude, I still think M should have tried to apologize to him no matter what. Oh well. At least Eve chose to say that she was sorry. Especially since she never wanted to take an unclear shot.
@@Hawthorne-Studios highly improbable. Silva used to be her favorite like Bond now is. ALso, he has way too many tech tools and resources, he can even find out easily.
Lack of prep/writing time before production started. Sam Mendes said that making Skyfall he knew where the story was headed from the beginning, whereas with Spectre they were figuring it out as they went.
@@NabberDog I never understood that. How do studios spend hundreds of millions on movie productions but make up the plot on the go. Especially with these huge franchises, they did the same with the new Star Wars 7, 8 and 9. A trilogy where they did not finish the plot before filming and could not manage to make a coherent story, HOW?!
I love how despite the tension and drama, at its heart, this scene is basically like a disappointed mother chewing out her kid for coming in late past curfew.
Amazing. Daniel Craig's acting. The subtlety of indicating his sense of purpose in the profession that deems him expendable such that he places the bottle down immediately at the news that could have him reinstated. How his life outside of it is quiet and empty. Alcohol driven even to the point of creating an added layer of danger with his drinking by incorporating scorpions and loveless affairs. His statement of "enjoying death" said with a glass of alcohol raised spoken spitefully and how that it "lends perspective" nevertheless he was swift to make a return in the conversation. James is a sad character, his heroism is only a veil for his lack of friendship, family or any significant relationship. His only relationship is with the job that values him only for his physical prowess which is called to question by an enemy who was discarded in like fashion. It's like when Bruce went to fight Bane expecting to die. Similarly it brings him to Madeleine like Bruce's return brought him to Selena.
the one thing I loved about Judy's M, is that she was sassy and straight to the point. She was no damsel in destress. She could dish out the insults with the best of them.
This 5 minute sequence plus the extended opening scene are absolute high points of the Daniel Craig Bond period. Brilliant acting, directing and storytelling. Judi Dench is effortlessly wonderful. This sequence is as good as anything in the Bond archive. Hats off to all involved, both in front and behind the camera. A truly amazing achievement.
I love the change of Bond when lights turn on. You expect him to be dressed in a suit, fully back in action when its dark but no. The light turns on and the illusion shatters. He is still broken.
@@czolgistta That's exactly how I've felt all along. There were a couple moments where he nailed being Bond, but the other 99% of the time I felt like I was watching a random agent.
@@sakuragi1062 The best, because he'd been one of them. He knew them so well. When I saw that Xavier Bardem was going to be in Dune, that made it a must see. If it hadn't already been because Denis Villeneueve was filming it.
Thomas Newman's score for M with Roger Deakin's cinematography is absolutely perfect. Filming M from across the coffins and then filming Tanner across again, to signify how isolated M is feeling, especially without Bond by her side. This will always be #1
a vulnerable bond like this is one of the most beautiful things this series has ever done in my opinion. i tried to be objective, but i can't see how this is not the best bond movie ever.
The fact that they didn’t give the title of 007 to another person after bonds supposed death proves that it’s not just a code name but his title , not something to be switched around . In my opinion
@Electro Crypto Yep, remember when he told Hillary he was going to lock her up. Many cheered and chanted, lock her up. It was all an act, a play, a theatrical performance. Hollywood can not make TV shows and movies that well. All the fighting and arguing is just a show. They work to promote one agenda.
y’all, she’s not recognizing James Bond by his silhouette. she just knows there’s no one else on the planet with the knowledge or the audacity to break into her home.
The third Craig Bond film, the very middle of his journey as Bond. This movie was also the best in his run in my opinion, with Casino Royale being a very close second
Anyone here after watching the new movie? I never watched Bond films until Daniel Craig came along. He hooked me in and attracted my attention; ever since then, I have loved every bit of his movies. I love that depth he brings to Bond's character and that part of humanity in him. His movies literally changed the face of Bond movies. The cinematography, the action sequences, made the movies way more darker that it ever was. Loved how in the end of the interview Daniel talked about rarity of James Bond movies. You've added a part of your personality and life to the cinema history, Mr. Craig, and it is a valuable input. Thank you Daniel Craig. Thank u for great movies like; Casino Royale, Skyfall and NOW No Time To Die; my favourite Bond movie/ any movie of all time. I'll miss you being my James Bond, the one I grew up watching and still do, reminiscing how cool you are all while still looking up to you. ❤ To whoever is the next James Bond they have got huge shoes to fit in. This gent has been the best Bond ever. His Bond has taken the films into the stratosphere. I’ve loved the series since I was a little and cried as No Time To Die ended. Oh my days what a guy. Daniel Craig’s time as Bond is already over… 5 films…. 16 years….. where did those years go?! He’s been fantastic as Bond. ❤❤❤❤❤ Daniel Craig has been my personal favourite James Bond, he’s set the standard really high for the next actor whoever they might be and I hope that the film is as good as I’m hoping that it will be. If I ever get to meet the bloke I’ll be sure to buy him a drink or ten to say thanks. Daniel Craig excels all the James Bonds and brings it to this whole new level. This man made a whole new world with his time frame and the position he was in while playing James Bond. Daniel Craig is the absolute epitome of any actor reforming, improving & developing a movie to a 110% piece of work; always going above and beyond all expectations. He truly brings the movies to the top. Thanks Daniel Craig, Ml to my hero Craig... Daniel, Craig :)
I always thought that Judi Dench’s M really came into its own once they rebooted the series, toughened the whole thing up and allowed her character to be more tetchy and hard-bitten and less cosy and overtly matronly. Oddly enough, it also enabled M to get some really funny lines, such as, When somebody says ‘we have people everywhere’, you expect it to be hyperbole. Florists use the expression. You don’t expect them to have somebody standing in the bloody room!“ from Quantum of Solace. 😆
One of the more profound, well written and acted scenes of all the 007 films. A defining of both characters. Even the lighting and cinematography was well done.
Without question the best bond. Completely realistic, a testament to the actors, especially Craig and Dench. A broken man, tormented by years of service returning to the only person who ever gave him meaning. Whatever you say. Craig was the best, most complete bond
Honestly skyfall is my favorite bond movie. It was such a great story and a good redemption for bond. I loved that he wasnt the same bond because of his injury, yet still was able to hold his own against the villain. Godly villain too. This movie showed exactly why he is james bond. Hands down my favorite of the franchise.
Dan and Judi's Bond/M dynamic is absolute top shelf. Every exchange with them is exhilarating and biting, with some aspect of their relationship always being advanced forward. M is tough but fair, and she really helps to mold Craig's Bond into the man we all love, because she instills in him the principles and disciplines required to do the job to the best of his ability.
What i really love about this scene is that, like Bond said, M didn't trust him to finish the Job. It's less about him being shot and more to do with the fact that he views M's decision as her losing trust/faith in his abilities, and it's a common theme throughout the film as Bond's age and ability are constantly being mentioned throughout.
I don't know that she didn't trust him so much as She is experienced enough not to let personal feelings get in the way of the mission. For her it isn't about trust or who is the best agent, its getting the mission done, and retrieving that list.
@@mithos56 I was mainly talking about how Bond Percieved her actions because i think in the other craig bond films he probably believes she would've let him deal with the issue himself if that makes sense
I have always loved the Bond films, going back even before I saw 'The Living Daylights' on my birthday while studying at Oxford University. With that said, I don't think anyone has ever, or will ever, play Bond better than Daniel Craig. When I see him in that role, I forget he's an actor, and I just see James Bond.
Started liking James Bond movies after they brought in Daniel Craig. His stunts feel very original and looks lethal. Perfect for a bond. Roger Federer, for example, although stylish enough in suits to play the bond, doesn't have the "lethal killer" looks :)
Oh how I will miss them both. The relationship of love and hate between the two made it more interesting and Craig took this to a whole new level and made it his own.
In the deleted scene, M wakes up at 3 am to find James spooning with her in a onesie. She exlaims "Don't ever spoon with me again or I'll have you shot!"
In the bond movies today it also depends which situation he’s in but in some ways he still has the element in a way he is the element it’s how he does it❤️❤️❤️
Something I noticed binging all of these Craig era clips is that Bond grows increasingly angry and rugged since Casino Royale. I don't know if its intentional, but Craig really portrays the "dying inside" of this character as he continues to witness tragedy and hardship.
The way Bond kind of complains "what did you say 'take the bloody shot '". It gives a peek into his vulnerability and how he's somewhat hurt by M's action. The two are tied together its more than enployer and employee dynamics between them.
